Fantastic accommodation, in a lovely sleepy village aside the Mosel river. Mike and Maria, and Picasso the Damation were the charming and welcoming hosts, who left you alone, but we're there if you needed anything. The apartments are wonderful, and equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. The building itself is stunning, and dates back to the 15th Century. Ellen's-Poltersdorf is a sleepy village, and to be fair and honest, not blessed with any bars. If you want to stay local there are a couple of hotels to drink in, and the prices are fair too. There is a bus service into Cochem, the nearest largest town, every 20 minutes, and the last bus back is at 21.15. We felt this a little early, but it is what it is. A taxi back is €20. The wein Keller at the property is very cosy, mand the wine.....well, what can I say, free-flowing, at a cost obviously, and very, very good indeed. I'd forgotten how good, and strong German wine is. My head told me as much the next day. A truly great holiday, and definitely recommend to anyone who wants to explore this delightful part of Germany.

Russell & Steve, thank you very much for your review and your stay with us at Zur Alten Weinkelter, indeed Ellenz is a quite traditional wine producing village so if you are looking for a relaxing area of the Moselle Ellenz is ideal & with only 9 kilometres from Cochem the tourist area’s are within reach knowing you can return to village life and relax in the Garden /Terrace to enjoy the selection of Moselle wines
& I am sure both Russell & Steve can confirm the quality and price on offer :))

As mentioned we are resident throughout your stay as we live on site however it is your holiday & we are around if you need anything.
Russell & Steve stayed in our Kerner apartment and we have 3 other apartments in the building so suitable for multiple rentals but giving you also your private space
It was out pleasure to welcome you both & it would be our great to welcome you again in the future
So there is a bottle of Moselle Wine waiting for you both in our cellar with you names on it :)

“Fantastisch”
Reviewed July 6, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Reviewing this delightful establishment sat in bed whilst on day 3 of our 7 night stay, and wondering where to start. Can't fault the place. Not one thing out of place. We arrived on Saturday, 4th July, tired from our six hour drive, thanks to the SatNav taking us the wrong way, to be met on the street by Maria. Mike was in the Wien cellar serving some other guests.

After being shown to our spotlessly clean, and delightful apartment we joined our hosts, and Swedish guests in a few bottles of wine. The few turned into more than a few, and boy, did we pay the next day!! Mike and Maria have a delightful Dalmatian called Picasso, who is as daft as a brush, and took a very good liking to my partners head, which caused amusement amongst us. The apartment, Kerner, has a tiny kitchen, but more than adequate, a large showere, a double bedded lounge area, and a single bedded room. There is even a full wine rack with a selection of wines, chargeable of course.

The village is only very small, but has a few eateries (namely hotels) on the main road running along the river, a bakery/Cafe and a small "imbiss" at the end of the village. There is also a largish open air swimming pool at the back of the village.

This place really is a home from home, most delightful, and relaxing, and would have no hesitations in coming back next year.min fact looking at booking before we leave. FANTASTISCH.

Ellenz is a beautiful part of the Mosel. Our hosts, Mike and Maria were wonderful hosts, full of great ideas of places to visit and also introduced us to the local wine and the local people. The accommodation was very sweet and we would certainly recommend it as a place to stay.

“Simply the best appartment this side of home.”

I travel extensively throughout europe on my Motorcycle, and have stayed in a wide variety of accomodation. This lovely appartment was one of the best I've ever stayed in. I was extremley impressed from the moment I arrived. Mike and Maria made me feel extremley welcome from the minute I switched the engine off. With tips where to eat, to the best biking roads in the area. The appartment has fast broadband making emailing home easy. The location is ideal for those that wish to travel by bus, ferry or car. The local bakery litteraly yards away makes delicious rolls and cakes. Mike & Maria's wine cellar is a sight to behold, and given the opportunity one could easily spend most nights drinking wonderful locally produced wines.
There are several resturants / bars that provide excellent food at very resonable prices.

To summarise, if your planning to explore the Mosel region of Germany then quite simply put this should be your first choice.

If you read some of my reviews, you'll see that I don't take any prisoners. I have nothing but praise for the owners, and their wonderful establishment.

We stayed here for a weekend. The accommodation comprises a well equipped kitchen with one large bedroom with sofa and TV and a small single bedroom. The apartment is on the first floor of a very historic house so this is a house for someone who can manage stairs easily. The owners are very friendly and can give lots of information on walks, local places to visit and places to eat. There is a nice garden to sit in on a warm evening. It has wifi and they allow dogs and have a dog themselves. The village has a wonderful pool which is a must to visit on a hot day.

“Very enjoynable stay in Mosel with some local taste”
Reviewed June 18, 2011 for a stay in May 2011

Early May 2011, we spent a very enjoyable week at Zur Alten Weinkelter in a small village Ellenz.

It was actually our second time to visit Mosel. Last year, when we were in Mozel also in the same season but stayed at a large holiday park with a swing pool etc. This time, in Ellenz, we really felt much more relaxed and were able to enjoy our holidays a lot. The apartments are located on the main street of the village, together with the village office where all kinds of local events are hold. It is very quiet in the evening but we enjoyed some evenings with local wines in Mike and Maria's cellar as well as another traditional place, just next door, where local people come to drink for an evening. In this way, we could taste some atmosphere of the actual life in Ellenz.

Our apartment consisted of two rooms with a small kitchen and a WC/shower room. All things are equipped and clean. Perhaps it is a bit dark inside but this belongs to such a monumental building. Of course we had very friendly owners; Mike and Maria.

If we visit Mosel in the future, then we will definitively go back to this apartment.
