We had a wonderful time in Las Catalinas at this hotel. The people were extremely nice and super solicitous. The bed was very comfortable and we were grateful to have air conditioning.
This is an awesome hotel and the staff are just superb. The restaurant in the hotel has very good food. They were the first restaurant in Costa Rica to solve the fact that humidity destroys the working of salt shakers. Forget adding rice, it can’t begin to keep up with the humidity. The restaurant at the Hotel Santarena however had salt grinders. They were the only ones anywhere in Costa Rica who appeared to have figured this out and it worked perfectly. The view here is awesome and I think we had one of the best located rooms in the hotel - top floor, right next to the pool.
I can’t say enough about the diligent and hardworking staff and front desk people. Every single issue brought to their attention was dealt with immediately. They got all over our need for Covid Tests before our flight home and arranged everything, double checked with us constantly, made sure we’d been emailed our results, etc. They were amazingly solicitous and great.

While at the Hotel Santarena we went on a tour with a guide named Javier. He picked us up at 4:30 AM at our hotel and took us to a river. We were out on the water by 7 am, after a breakfast bakery stop. He insisted and he turned out to be 100% correct that to really see the animals, you needed to be on the river no later than 7 am. We were and got awesome photos and saw tons of animals, reptiles, crocodiles, lizards, monkeys and birds. By the time we got back to the launching spot at about 8:30, we’d stopped seeing animals in abundance. All the other boat rides were just getting ready to go out. He took us to a fabulous COOP for breakfast where got great food, a pottery-making demonstration and a sugar cane crushing demo. We stopped in Filadelfia de Guanacaste and wandered in the city square and saw lots of iguanas in the trees, and awesome plants, all which he identified.More
