“A home for three families from Canada”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

After much research on tripadvisor Cabinas El Pueblo was chosen for a family reunion. Three families, three rooms for a total of 30 days. Cabinas El Pueblo is loaded in a forested area with a resident sloth, and easy access to restaurants and supermarkets in Santa Elena.
The management, Marlenny, Freddy and Diablo could not do enough for nine Canadians, organizing tours, knowledge of the region, suggesting restaurants and every morning a wholesome and nutritious breakfast.
The fully equipped kitchen allowed for many family evening dinners. My grandchildren will miss the regular Spanish lessons provided by Diablo.
It is out intention to return in 2013 as our granddaughter will be attending the Cloud Forest School for one semester, and Nana and Papa will again be staying with Freddie and Diablo.
A most pleasant and always a feeling of complete security. Thanks Diablo and Freddie.

Room Tip: Room 10 was located near the office and had a great veranda for viewing the many birds.

Cabinas El Pueblo has very nice large, quiet rooms with a shared balcony (2nd floor) for the price with warm showers. Towels are hard to dry out here and are not replaced daily. The daily rotating breakfast is filling and you can sign up for it the night before. Just show up in the kitchen in the morning. The hotel staff provides good information in English and Spanish on local activities and sight-seeing and you can sign up for various activities at the service desk. Central location and next to a supermarket. Easygoing and friendly environment!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was great. Freddie is just the most helpful host ever and is infectiously enthusiastic about the area.... And especially it's sloths which he points out daily! The guys here are also really helpful when it comes to organising tours, onward transport or even finding somewhere nice to eat.
The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. There's also a nice chill area both indoor and out with hammocks.
The breakfast is also great and sets you up nicely for the day.
The wifi is also really good and the location is great.
The only minor downside here is that the showers are more luke warm than hot and also it'd be nice if some of the hammocks weren't shaded so you could relax in the sun.
Also we had a room downstairs which means that once people are up for breakfast which starts at 6:30am (especially those people with noisy kids who don't seem to hear the noise anymore?!?!) it's hard to sleep in. But this would only be for the 2 rooms out back downstairs so that shouldn't be a deal breaker.
All in all this place is great.... And then when you factor in the price, especially for the area... You can't go wrong!

I was visiting Monteverde for my mum and we spent 3 nights at El Pueblo in a private room with bunk beds and private bathroom ($30 a night). This was good value considering that breakfast is included.
The room, bathroom and all other areas of the hostel were extremely clean, and the beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets for the cold nights.
The staff are very friendly and helpful, will book tours/transport for you and give you a lot of helpful information about the area.
If you are traveling alone and want to meet people, this probably isn't the place for you as it's more of a quiet peaceful place, but if you are in a couple of with family/friends, I would definitely recommend it!

We decided to spend $16/person per night for the shared double, and were definitely glad that we did. Our room was honestly nicer than some US hotels I've been in, if not fancy. Our bathroom was nice and we had plenty of hot water. The hotel looks a bit sketchy from the outside, but inside it's very nice. The location is fantastic, just out of the center of town by the supermarket, but it can be a little loud on the back side if you leave a window open. Each morning, you can select a delicious breakfast (for free), and you can book all of your tours through the hotel. Also, all of the tours that we booked through the hotel were awesome and interesting--I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Spring for the private bath for convenience and privacy! Having a mini fridge is really convenient...

My stay in Monteverde was amazing thanks to Cabinas El Pueblo. Our room was large, clean and comfortable and also had warm showers.

You feel like you are at home during your stay with Cabinas El Pueblo.

The location is great and close to the local grocery store and fabulous restaurants. They also provided free internet service which was enabled us to contact home when needed.

The breakfasts provided were amazing, and we especially loved the banana pancakes and the homemade fruit juice!

Diego was great with assisting us in setting up tours and excursions. He was very informative and extrememly knowlegable.

I highly reccommend staying here, you won't regret it.

We were in a room with double bed and ensuite on the main floor – it also had a bunk bed so it would have been suitable for a family of four (although a small space overall; so youngsters, not teenagers!). A delicious breakfast was offered in the kitchen downstairs every morning: a fruit plate and the choice of one of two changing options every morning. The whole place was kept very clean and tidy, and the staff is very friendly and helpful, and can arrange day trips or shuttles as needed. The Cabinas are located down a short path just off the main road, so traffic noise is not a problem except for the odd loud motorcycle. The shared deck overlooks a small creek that runs by the Cabinas, and the trees, which hide the backs of other buildings, attract lots of small local birds to get your birdwatching started. All in all, a very pleasant and affordable place to stay while visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and other area attractions.

Room Tip: Main floor (upstairs) has shared deck and more light.
