The biggest venue in Sables D'or and very impressive when you first go in. The interior is a tribute to the art of the fibrous plasterer and an attempt to mimic Vegas casinos. The place is set out to look as if you are in an Italian piazza, complete with the mock building frontages. There are two restaurant areas, one "outside" and a quieter one "inside" which has a huge wall of wine and champagne bottles. It looks expensive and is but you expect to be paying for quality. Sadly that's when it all goes down hill. Lets face it if it wasn't for the huge take from the casino side this place wouldn't survive. Let's start with the menu, luckily we had three French people in our party, but that turned out not to be much of a help. They struggled to decipher the ridiculously flowery descriptions on offer. I took no chances and chose the Aberdeen Angus Steak which turned out to be the right choice. The basic problem is trying to pretend they are haute cuisine when, firstly, you can't cook and secondly your chef is from a Stoke-on-Trent cafe. My friend had the Salmon and melon starter which came as some pureed mush, that I am sure was baby food, and to dip in it were a couple of bread sticks with some salmon wrapped around the ends. The other starters were not much better. It was embarrassing because I was being treated to this meal by my hosts. None of our party, or the waitress, could identify what the green slimy strips were that accompanied my steak as the vegetables. I got the impression that the management couldn't see the value of paying for good staff. After our meal we went to the bar area to watch the two performers murder a few songs. Now this is where it gets interesting, remember the wall of wines? well there is just one larger. A nasty German one that the bar staff see no reason to fill the glasses with. By the way the French don't understand why we drink pints. I presume this was the reason they could only find 5 glasses of varying styles for our party of seven. Mine was a huge thick vase I could hardly lift, much to the amusement of the rest of my friends. They don't have lime so, as a larger and lime drinker, this one German beer was even worse. Prices are very steep for food and drinks which wouldn't be a problem if the quality was there. An IMPORTANT word of warning to U.K. travelers DON'T pay in here with a credit card. My bank charged me an extra £3 because, even though you are only buying food and/or drink, they classed it as a gambling transaction because it's a casino.

Not bothered by the casino element here, we jyst went for the food! Very nice it was too. It was our special holiday treat so more expensive than some other places we visited. Interesting setting too. An Italian street set indoors. Food was just excellent

We had a couple of good meals at the Casino then on a later visit the service was "cavalier" and disappointing.
