The Coralli Beach Apartments is actually spelt Corali with one L .

A family run apartment hotel (one of “Jimmy’s Group Hotels” best viewed on Facebook) where everyone really is family; husband and wife Dimitrios and Renata, nephew Jorges and young daughter Zoe. Not forgetting Charlie, a one year old Chihuahua who thinks he’s a much bigger puppy than he is.

The accommodation (ours was 309) is not new but large and freshly decorated. Basic, the kitchen area containing fridge, 2-ring electric hob, sink, was in one quarter of the lounge that had dining table and chairs plus two divan beds/sofas. There was a bath/shower room, and twin-bedded bedroom. The balcony had chairs and a table plus a fold up airer.

The Hotel/apartments were well maintained inside and out, with a reasonably priced bar and seating area by the small swimming pool and paddling pool.

The hotel has its own sun beds just across the road on a small sandy beach, plus by the pool.

Free WiFi is available in and around the bar area.

The "Tourist Train" stops right outside the Corali, on its tour.

Dimitrios showed us great hospitality. He drove us to and from the nearest large supermarket to stock up on the heavy stuff (wine, water etc) on our first day. If he came across us walking back from the village he would give us a lift back to the hotel. He really couldn’t do enough for us. The man is a diamond. He even invited us to his family barbecue. And to make sure our return to the airport was hitch-free, he phoned the transfer company without charge.

There are two small supermarkets within yards of Corali but for a larger one (SPAR) you have a 20 minute walk into the main centre of Kokkini Hani with its bars, shops and restaurants. The fastest route we found is to take the beach pavement and go left. When the pavement ends, cross over and take the road that goes up and inland, at the top of the road you meet the pavement into town on your right.

We’ve stayed at the Sunset Beach Apartments twice before but due to refurbishment this re-opened after our stay. Demetrius now runs three hotels – Sunset, Corali and Marilisu.

Next door but one is the superb Taverna Ambrosia (check local restaurants on Tripadvisor) where we ate every evening – delicious food. Highly recommended.

We spend two weeks in the late may in Coralli Beach Apartments. The hotel is chosen, relying on the recommendation of a travel agent. And we were very happy because this place is ideal for independent travelers (including travellers with children).

The hotel is small, very homely. Each room has a living room, which can be used as a bedroom for children, kitchenette with fridge, sink, cooking facilities and tableware, as well as a spacious balcony for dining outdoors. The hotel provides parking for rental cars.
In front of the hotel: two swimming pools. One of them (round), small and perfect for kids, and the second has depth from 1 m to 1,8 m. The hotel has free wi-fi (wireless internet), so bring your laptop or iPad :) But if not, there is one computer for public use.

In addition, the hotel has inexpensive, but good bar with summer terrace. The people, who works in the bar, are always nice and ready to give valuable advice. Good range of drinks: from different types of coffee and soft drings to the Cretan wine, draft or bottled beer or a traditional Greek drink ouzo. Prices in the bar lower than the average in the town.
On Saturdays, the owner of the hotel organises a bar-barbecue party. In the evening he grills various meats, and his wife makes salads, sauces and Greek appetizers like tzatziki. And then everybody sing their favorite songs at karaoke. It's a great fun!

Kokkini Hani town differs from the surrounding resorts because it has pretty quiet life. At the same time, it is easy to go by bus or car to Heraklion (30 minutes) or to a very lively Malia or Hersonissos (20 minutes) with a lot of night clubs, bars ans parties. To the nearby towns you can get by tourist "train", whig goes three times a day. But cheaper and faster way – to go by intercity KTEL buses, which come every half hour from early morning until late at night. Bus stop is 500 m from the hotel. It is called Vasileos or № 7. You can ask the owner of the hotel, he will explain how to get there.

I also would like to mention the hospitality of the owner, Dimitrios. He is always ready to help, to show and tell anything: where a supermarket with the largest range of products, taverns with quality food, how to get to any place on the island. He knows Crete very good and can tell where to go for signhseeng. He seems well informed and able to answer absolutely any questions. We were very pleased by his care about the guests: he regularly asked if everything was good.

In the next house to the Coralli there is small supermarket with the most of products for everyday needs, including fruits. Big Spar supermarket is about a 15 minute walk. But if you do not want to cook yourself, right next to the hotel there is a taverna with a good-quality Cretan cuisine and a huge multi-page menu. And, you can order by phone fast food like burger or gyros, with the delivery to the hotel bar, it is not expensive at all.

Across the street from the hotel - a small beach with deck chairs and sun umbrellas. Their use is free for hotel guests. The sea there is amazingly clean and clear, fine sandy beach, entering to the water is very smooth. If you want beach activities - something a little farther along the coast there is a large beach where you can rent jet skis, go for a ride on "banana", etc.

I can not mention the fact that half an hour walk from the hotel is absolutely stunning CreteAquaruim! This is the biggest aquarium in the Mediterranean Sea, with 2,000 species of animals inhabiting the sea, very modern, with interactive services and audio-guides in a lot of languages.

So, I heartily recommend Coralli Beach all! This is a great quiet place for rest and sightseeng in Crete.
