I had wanted to have a very special dinner for our anniversary and Don Alfonso lived up to it's reputation. I have never had such exquisite service from start to finish. My wife and I truly felt like royalty.

It's hard to remember everything we had, because they also brought us small samples of other dishes for us to try that we had not even ordered. matching them with the proper wine. The Duck appetizer and Tuna for my Secondi were fantastic. and the Fresh vegetables from the organic farm were delicious.

The owners came over to introduce themselves and make sure everything was going great-it was-and after we had a tour of the 6th Century BC (yep) wine cellar.

An experience I would recommend for everyone.

As a guest of the hotel we were fortunate to be able to dine here on two consecutive nights during our stay. The restaurant itself has been beautifully designed with a pink and white coloured dining room housing tables that are generously spaced. Service is a really strong point with water (they pour it into a magnum sized decanter on the table - a nice practical touch) and wines as well as bread and olive oil almost immediately topped up throughout the dinner.

The wine list is presented on an iPad which is so much more user friendly than the bible like leather bound volumes that many restaurants present one with as it enables the diner to organise it by region or grape variety or vintage or price; it provides flexibility. The wine list is very impressive and thoughtfully offers a very wide range of bottles costing under EUR70 which is somewhat unusual in this level of restaurant. After dinner it is most certainly worth accepting the invitation to view the wine cellar which terminates in a long tunnel that is apparently almost 3,000 years old; you will never see another cellar like it!

We sampled both the tasting menu and a la carte. If I was dining here just the once I would go for the full tasting menu as it provides the opportunity to taste a wider selection of dishes. I shan't recount the dishes course by course, but some highlights include: An eel ice cream served with a small twist of pasta and a basil sauce which as well as interesting flavour combinations provided a great contrast of textures and temperatures; an intensely rich tomato soup and crab served with a bread crust - the finest kind of comfort food; a deep fried cod dish served with lemon and buffalo yoghurt sauces was executed perfectly and made for a simply stunning dish; guinea fowl with pistachios and pepper sauces had a great array of flavours and varying levels of heat from the chilli peppers.

Pre-dessert mignardises served over dry ice provided a nice touch of theatre and were all distinctly different - both in flavour and texture - and well executed. Of the desserts that we tried there is one absolutely standout dish that we'd happily eat over and over again, it is their signature "concerto of lemon". It uses lemons grown on their farm which are presented as many different elements: a beignet, a profiterole, and a hollowed out lemon filled with a lemon cream and a creme pat; it is a beautiful journey of different techniques all married together with a lightly perfumed lemon flavour.

The dinner here - like everything at Don Alfonso - feels generous (there is even complimentary limoncello after dinner) and whilst in absolute terms it is not cheap in relative terms it is excellent value. The quality of the cooking here is extremely high and was consistent throughout all of the dishes that we tried; we have dined in 3* restaurants that have not made for nearly such an enjoyable experience. If you are in the region and want to dine on the best local produce finessed into the best dishes then you must pay Don Alfonso a visit!

My wife and I had dinner at Don Alfonso on the penultimate night of our honeymoon. We did the traditional tasting menu and found it to be utterly delicious, especially the savory courses. The lone misstep was dessert. We loved the smoked tuna, burrata, cannelloni, lamb, and cheese; it's hard to choose favorites. The sommelier helped us choose a terrific Taurasi. When it turned out the vintage we had selected was not in stock, he gave us an older, better one at the same price. The owner came up to our table and chatted with us during the meal, and after we finished we were given a tour of the restaurant's wine cellar and its cheese cave, which is in a well at the end of a tunnel that dates back to the sixth century BC. It was amazing. We were also shown the kitchen by the restaurant's executive chef. We had a wonderful experience and will be back.

Our third time in five years. A "must visit" whenever we come to the area. It's not just the gorgeous food from local sources, and it's more than than the enchanting grounds and stylish decor. It's the way the owners welcome you, get to know you, and share their love of this place with you. It is really special.
