“Very good choice”
Reviewed 9 August 2011

My wife and I spent two weeks at La Bisaccia after reading favourable reviews and were not disappointed. As previously mentioned there was always fish included in the menu, but as there was around 5 choices per course this was not a problem.
We were upgraded to full board and to be honest we could not manage the full lunch on offer. The menu choices were varied and should have suited most tastes although there were a couple of disgruntled guests (British) who really should have stayed at home not really wanting to be amongst foreigners and their ways.
We found the staff to be most helpful and courteous when we required assistance.
The resort of Baia Sardinia is quite small and quiet and might not suit all, but if you're looking for a 'chill out' in nice surroundings this is ideal.
The pool and beach areas are more than adequate and we always found an ideal spot without any problem.
There is a local bus service to Porto Cervo if you wish to view how the other half live.
We have visited most parts of Italy and this was easily the most laid back region and sparsely populated. There is no old town attched to Baia Sardinia which meant my wife missed out on the evening stroll through the back streets in search of the next Furla purchase. There are a few local shops and a supermarket for vital supplies, also a weekly visit from a small market.

We were dismayed when we arrived at La Bisaccia by the musty smell in the reception area. Thankfully, when we arrived in our room it was impeccably clean and fresh. The size of our twin bed room with full sea view was dissapointing and it looked similar to an advertised double room, the sea view however was amazing. Room 214 There was plenty of draw space and 20 hangers in the wardrobe. We were very impressed! Another thing that impressed us was that the bedlinen was changed every day. What a luxury! For the ladies I must point out that the hairdryer was a fixed box one attached to the bathroom wall.
The position of the hotel was at the end of a small modern promonade. There was a small community of fairly expensive shops and 3 restaurants which were extremely pleasant to walk around but that took just 20 minutes and then after that you would need a car to explore wider. We found the drinks very expensive with the Euro being what it is at the moment and we would advise that you buy your favourite spirit at the airport .
The hotel bar and pool bar were delightful to sit in but once again quite expensive. We had full board thanks to the Citalia offer of free lunches . This was a big deal as the lunch couse was beautifully served with excellent food. We were delighted to be able to choose from a wonderful buffet at lunch time as well as a choice of grilled fish or meat. The evening meal was 5 courses long and all were professionally served and very varied. There was always a meat , fish and vegetarian main course on offer each evening. The wine prices started at 25 euros. The staff were quite friendly but not intrusive and everyone worked in a very professional manner.
The pool area was extremely clean with fresh towels on offer however the sunbeds had no cushions and our backs were quite sore at the end of the week. The wind at times was quite fierce and so sunshades had to be taken down but we may have been unlucky with the weather that week. The extensive grounds were well maintained and lovely to explore. The beach had a private area for La Bisaccia residents and this was immediatly outside the hotel entrance. There were pedolos and small motor boats to hire and also boat trips could be purchased on the promonade. All in all it was a very relaxing holiday and we would certainly visit this hotel again.

Recently stayed at La Bisaccia and could not fault the whole experience. It is a beautiful hotel with Sardinian charm. All the staff make your stay special and couldn't be more helpful. This includes the maid service , reception staff ( particularly Franco) and the bar and restaurant staff and pool staff , all impecable.

We had a suite at the Residence and the views are breathtaking. The suite itself was spacious and well furnished with a well appointed bathroom. Our maid kept it spotlessly clean , towels changed regularly with a turn down service in the evenings.Without a doubt when we return we'll book a suite again at the Residence.

The facilites at the hotel are great . A lovely pool area with stunning views out to sea with included sun beds , towels and parasols . Always plenty of beds available at the pool and also loads of great places to relax through out the gardens . The sea breeze can get quite strong in the afternoons but it was very welcome as it got really hot by mid afternoon.

As for the restaurant , every day the food was superb. Breakfasts varied , at lunchtime there was a choice from the set menu or plenty to choose from at the buffet which included hot and cold choices and great salads.Evening dinners were excellent and it was like dining at a great a la carte restaurant every night . There was a four course menu with plenty of choice as well as an evening buffet with no repetition during our entire stay.Great choice of wines too some reasonably priced - we chose great Sardinian wines most evenings. One thing that has to be mentioned is the view from the restaurant accross the bay and the sunsets simply stunning.

Baja Sardinia is a small resort in a stunning location about a 30 minute trip from the airport . It has a fabulous sandy beach and clear water although the beach itself is fairly narrow with the quiet sea front road running immediately next to it. There is a lovely piazza area with some good shops and bars and about a mile away a supermarket and medical centre .

We took a taxi in to Porto Cervo , ridiculously priced for the ten minute journey - 30 euros each way! Glad we visited but didn't think it would be worth a second visit . A very small town with some fabulous boats at the marina and an impressive mix of designer shops but not much else to offer . Almost stopped for a drink at one of the bars but decided not to bother given the ridiculous prices and no particular atmosphere to enjoy , so returned to Baja Sardinia instead.

Decided we'll definitley return to Sardinia , one of the most picturesque places we've ever visited and when we do we'll definitely return to La Bisaccia and Baja Sardinia.

Hotel spotless, food excellent and staff very friendly and efficient. We had a problem with our room when we arrived it did not have a full sea view as booked but we were moved to another room but still only had a side sea view but we were satisfied, after a few days we were upgraded to a suite with wonderfull views, we did not request this and we thought this was a lovely gesture by the hotel. The grounds and pool area are looked after really well, lots of areas to sun bathe in private. The dining terrace has lovely views especially at sunset. Without a doubt would stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: If you can afford it have room 112.

We have now stayed at the Hotel La Bisaccia for the last nine years which proves beyond doubt that we love the location and people at the hotel. All the staff are excellent but special mention has to made for Franco, Alessandro, Massimo, Danielli, Fabiola, Sonya, Antonio, Giovanni and Guiseppi who all make our stay very special. I defy anyone to get fed up with the views from the hotel, it is stunning.

My partner and I thought that La Bisaccia was a lovely hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days here at the end of May beginning of June this year. The hotel is very comfortable and our room was more than satisfactory. We asked for room 116 which has been commented on this site before and we luckily got it. There is a good reason for asking for this room as the balcony which overlooks the bay is far larger than some of the others and has a shaded area but also a little sun trap if the wind gets up around the pool. The maid who looked after our room was very good and our towels appeared to be changed every day even if we did not ask for them to be. The maid also came in again whilst we were at dinner and turned down the beds and emptied the bins again – nice touch that one.

All the remaining staff were very friendly and in the main spoke good English. Antoine, a native Sardinian and Elaria looked after us well in the restaurant and we had a table right by the front overlooking the sea and the gardens. We kept this table for all meals and this is despite us not drinking wine. In a previous review it was mentioned that you got seated elsewhere if you didn’t drink the wine but that was not our experience. As we booked via Citalia we received a complimentary lunch which if you wanted could be classified as a second dinner as main courses were offered which included a whole fish or a meat dish together with a well-stocked buffet. In the evening there are four courses which were not repeated once in our 10 day stay. If you like fish you are well catered for as of the five main courses at least two will feature fish in one guise or another. If I had any type of complaint it would be that some of the dishes (soup etc) could be a little hotter but that would be nit picking. I enquired before we left regarding the dress code and whether long trousers were necessary in the evenings but was advised by previous visitors that tailored shorts and a nice shirt were more than adequate. However, it still amazes me how many people think a pair of jeans and a T shirt is smart evening dress but maybe I’m just getting old. My partner wore some lovely dresses that were commented on by guests and staff alike and surely when you go on holiday you should try to make a bit of an effort.

Please be aware that the hotel is quite cosmopolitan and enjoyed by numerous other nationalities but that said everyone was very friendly. However, please also note the majority of clientele visiting this hotel are middle aged (can I say that) and therefore, this hotel is not really for kids or teenagers as there is no nightlife to speak of either in the hotel or in Baja Sardinia. The hotel has a pianist called Alfonso who plays in the evening but that is about it and the resort although very pleasant (not at all intimidating even at night) has only a handful of shops, restaurants and bars. If like me you enjoy the English papers don’t hold your breath as we managed to get one only on 4 days out of 10.

The pool is freshwater and one has to say it is COLD but it was early in the season so those of you going later in the year may find it warmer – just don’t dive in without dipping your toes in first! There are plenty of sun beds around the pool, all with umbrella’s and an attentive lifeguard but there are also other sunbeds dotted around the hotel grounds in the gardens and in some tucked away little coves. The hotel commands a section of the beach in Baja Sardinia again with sunbeds and umbrellas which also has a lifeguard. The beach is sandy with crystal clear waters.

My partner and I like to chill, read, sun bathe, swim a little and enjoy good food so we are not very adventurous when it comes to sightseeing. However, if you want to visit neighbouring towns then you will need a car as public transport is very hit and miss and cabs are very expensive (25 -30 Euro’s for a 10 minute trip). There are only around 4 buses a day (more in high season) and if you do catch one make sure to catch the next one back (a couple of hours later) or else you could find yourself stuck somewhere for 4 to 6 hours unless you grab that pricy taxi. They are boats to the Archipelago Islands of La Maddalena but these are less expensive (40 Euro’s per person) if you buy down on the beach front than (70 to 90 Euro’s) if you buy from the hotel. The trip is well worth doing and is a whole day experience travelling around and stopping on different islands. We also went to Porto Cervo (10 mins on the bus) which is very purpose built and full of high end designer shops including Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton etc but nothing special in our opinion. Cannigione (15 mins on the bus) was far nicer and has a few souvenir shops and some restaurants together with a nice marina.

All in all we had a very nice time in Northern Sardinia and with it only being 2 hours from Gatwick it is only a short flight away. Please note the island is quite windy at times and the weather can be a bit mixed in May/June but we were reliably informed that it gets really hot in August. We even had the experience of a very impressive thunderstorm that lit up the bay late one evening and we were sure someone was emptying their bath onto our balcony as the rain come down in torrents. In our view this hotel and island is a terrific place to chill and recharge those batteries.

Room Tip: Ask for room 116 - the balcony is bigger
