Serendipitous find this afternoon while walking around Siena. Low key place with friendly service and delicious food. Had the pasta with sausage and will have it again next time we are in town. Good wine selection also.

I had forgotten Pienza...from the trip of a lifetime, 10 years ago, our honeymoon in Tuscany. I had forgotten the landscape beyond the cliff that defines the edge of town...especially in that glorious late-afternoon sidelight that photographers love so much to shoot in.

When we arrived this time, for a '2nd Honeymoon' a decade later, it was after a hair-raising white-knuckle drive to Pienza on fumes, no benzina stations anywhere among the little villages we stopped at. I truly believed we'd walk there the last few miles. So to make it, barely, and find a gas station as the car literally began to sputter, and then to turn the corner walking behind the Duomo...and see that stunning vista, that enormous panorama, well.. it was life-affirming. In that light, especially, all the late-afternoon colours deeply saturated.

We drank some expensive wine on the cobbled street behind the wall the defines the cliff-edge, at the Bar Il Casello, savouring the view...And the awestruck silence as others came out of the mouth of the little alleyway and were almost immediately stopped in mid-sentence once they saw what was in front of them.

After an hour of this kind of awestruck feeling, we searched for food. We left one place near the Duomo where the attitude of the waiters as we waited at the door, patiently in spite of being ignored for 5 minutes, was a bit too arrogant for me to take. On impulse, we went into the rather unattractive (at least to me) curiously truncated entry to the "Trattori Da Florella di Famiglia Neri" about a block or so away.

Good thing we did!.

We were placed at a small table up in the little loft, beside some nice fellows from The States. We ordered what we thought were rather pedestrian meals, albeit that they seemed highly overpriced. And were surprised when the meals were delivered quickly, very well presented and deliciously aromatic. My wife had a very tender and perfectly prepared sea bass. I had a sort of osso bucco, which is hard to find any more. The meals were very good, and the wine the waiter recommended was worth the substantial price. The desserts were not fantastic but were very tasty, some of the better dolce we had on this trip...

It was our last meal in Toscana, celebrating a rejuvenated memory of a stunning landform in what, arguably, is so perfect a preserved medieval town that surely it must have been planned and built by Dreamworks and Disney Studios. It really, actually, is too perfect.

The meal was very real and very fine, though. We didn't have enough time in Pienza this time either...So we are coming back next May. For sure we will remember to book a table at the Trattoria Da Florella!

We enjoyed our lunch here and the food was very flavorful. Selections were excellent, and the waitstaff was professional, efficient, and friendly. Soups were perfect, and the pasta dishes great. We actually lunched here twice.

my wife and i shared an antipasto of a pecorino and truffle fondue in a pastry shell, primis of ribboletta and gnocchi with pecanzola, lambino and sage. then one secondi - deep fried lamb ribs and one dessert- a pear tart with vin brulee. they ranged from very good to excellent. the service was very pleasant, and our waiter suggested a mid-range nobile that complemented the meal well. total= 88 euros. i recommend them.

Friendly staff, the most awesome chickpea soup, and a beautiful restaurant. We went twice during our 4 day stay in the area. Unfortunately the bread of the brushetta as hard to eat and the dish was lacking in balsamic. The spaghetti was OK. The second night the steak and rabbit were excellent.
