The family that runs this unique hotel in a 16th century building on a hill above Poggibonsi offer the best that any traveler could hope for. Every care is taken to make sure that visitors feel welcome and have a good experience. We loved simply being here from our breakfast in a special room to a delicious dinner served on the terrace. (We were also graced by a full moon!)The accommodations are fine, the food, wine and service are excellent, but it is the sincere warmth of heart that we experienced that will stay with us long after we have returned home. One suggestion: having access to a car is a good idea. Getting into Poggibonsi and on to more glamorous Tuscan destinations requires taxi and bus rides.

This review is based solely on the villa itself and not the surrounding areas and i never write a bad review but this was way too upsetting. we came here on vacation and were told about San Lucchese by our travel agent. Upon looking at the pictures and the reviews on tripadvisor I was really looking forward to the stay.

We drove in from Florence on a Monday around 1:30 pm. All of the lights were off at the reception desk and there was one gentleman there who was there to check us in. We were given the key to the room and the room was not what i had seen in the pictures. It was a corner room on the 2nd floor room 210 and had one window and extremely dark. We came back downstairs and the guy said he was not planning on giving us that one but he gave it to us because the others were still being cleaned. We told him it wasnt an issue and would like a different room when we got back from lunch

The other room he gave us was right next to 210 and was marginally better with 2 windows. It was extremely small and there was no air circulation in the room so we had to open the windows to discover that we would be bit up by mosquitos the next morning and the mornings thereafter. I told them the next morning and they said they would spray the room but either they did not do it or it just didnt help.

I also asked to get my laundry done which was a few items and it came out to 52 euro!! my DRY CLEANING never costs that much! the bathroom was a bit bigger than that in a plane and we could hear the entire conversation going on in the room next to us.

We were here for 4 nights overall and I was extremely happy to move onto the next leg of our journey aside from the amazing vineyards and little towns we visited. I would recommend staying in San Gimignano or along the Chianti road. There are far nicer places to stay that are less expensive.

The only plus was that Marco was extremely helpful in guiding us to different areas and the staff in the restaurant were very nice.

Villa San Lucchese has to be the absolute "perfect holiday break" whether you wish to visit the beautiful surroundings, or simply find a rest haven for a week or two, Villa San Lucchese is ideal. The fabulous views from the rooftop restaurant equal the the beautiful charm of the hotel. We have travelled far and wide, but never found a more friendly and warm welcome as offered by the straff and familly at the Villa. I have only ever written one review - and this is it.
My winner without question!

The staff and owners of Villa San Lucchese really make your trip. Nothing is too much trouble and they always have a smile for every guest. It's a great place to go with families with good sized rooms and extra beds if required - so important if you don't want to have to splash out on separate rooms. Super breakfast while dinners on the terrace gazing out over the Tuscan hills are memorable. Don't know if we were just lucky, but we met some really nice sets of guests there - families again - and they had returned for their third visit which is always a great recommendation. You are very well placed for day trips to Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano and the heart of Chianti but if it's as hot as it was when we were there, you'll probably be desperate to get back and cool off in the pool. A little 'honesty' cabin by the pool is a great idea and you can help yourself to beers, ice-creams etc - everything is 2 euros. Wish I was back there instead of sitting here writing this!

We booked into the Villa San Luchesse as my niece was being married in the Basilica and the reception was in the Villa. The whole family were excellent with their service, friendliness and hospitality. They were kindness themselves and we were made to feel not like guests, but family. The food was beaitiful and we dined in the hotel each evening. Lunch was made all the more special as Lucia made special cakes every day. Marco was such a gentleman paying attention to each and every one of the guests. The pool was kept immaculate. Gerrardo in the restuarant was more than helpful recommendaing that we try various local dishes. Tiziana who always had a smile on her face, made us feel so at home and I'm sure laughed at times when we all tried to speak our Italian. All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for 5 star service in a beautiful location and at affordable prices.
