“WONDERFUL TRIP”
Reviewed 24 April 2011

I was with my wife and some friends and this travel was one of the best experiences of my life. Everything was great, wonderful hotel staff and of course I recommend this hotel to all the English and everyone who reads this site.

They also say that Almeria is a perfect land, has everything beach, good food, mountains, and above all a wonderful sunshine.

Our party consisted of myself, my husband, our 13 year old autistic son and my mother who is in her eighties.
We arrived in the hotel at around 11 a.m. and were warned by our Thomas Cook Rep. that non of the hotels would have the rooms ready at that time. True enough we had to wait until 2 p.m. but we passed the time sitting by the pool with a cold drink from the bar.
When we got our rooms they were up graded to Junior Suites and were very, very nice. Spacious and with the bath in the room, not partitioned off as previously mentioned. This is a bit unusual really, especially if you're sharing with a friend because there's no privacy (although the toilet at least is separate). As it happens, we didn't mind this at all and really liked the rooms.
All the staff spoke a bit of English, and were all exceptionally helpful and polite - the waiting staff in the buffet were particularly warm and friendly.
The food at breakfast was varied and cooked well and we always found it to be hot. The evening buffet was lovely, there was always lots of choice and althoug there were some things that we wouldn't eat e.g. rabbit, veal and squid, there was always a roast being carved, grilled salmon or sea bass etc, lamb and pork chops, pasta with sauces, and lots, lots more. My favourite dessert was the crepes which were made to order. We did eat out a couple of nights, just for a change and to see the resort.
The pools at the hotel are wonderful and were never crowded when we went. The bars are good and all public areas were clean and well presented. The shop sells crisps, souvenirs and sweets and you can buy a bottle of whisky for €13.

Roquetas de Mar itself is a lovely resort, very flat and not too big but still with plenty of bars etc. The best thing about it is, of course the weather, 30 degrees plus the last week of September.

We'll be returning to the Mediterraneo Park next year.

This hotel warrants only 2 stars - the rooms and public areas bear no resemblance to the photos online. The overall first impression was that of a run down holiday camp. We had park 4 blocks away and had to pay in full on arrival (not normal for a 4 star hotel!) and were put in a room resembling a dormitory with 4 beds and no terrace or sea view, despite the online description on the hotel's website - "We offer guests superb personal comfort with large public rooms and spacious superior bedrooms equipped with large beds. All have magnificent sea views from their sunny terraces". They said they had no other rooms so we decide to leave. Miraculously an alternative room materialised when we said we wanted a refund, but this was still not up to standard, so we declined the offer. The initial expereince had left a bad taste in our mouths. It then took us 2 hours for them to agree a refund so we could leave. Luckily we had only driven 3 hours from our home for this weekend break, not flown in from overseas! The one bright spot was the assistance of a receptionist called Albert who did everything he could to help us in our quest for a refund, including free drinks in the bar while we waited for the manager, who declined to come out of her office to see us, but eventually approved the refund from behind her closed door. Definitely not 4 star!!

We booked the hotel directly and was very happy with it, however the swish bathrooms pictured on the advert is not quite like acurate. We were hoping for the roll top bath but got a shower over bath but still very nice and clean. Personally i wouldnt book anything more than B+B as food in the area is very good, and the food in the hotel is ok but nothing special just normal standard hotel food. There was nothing wrong with the food however whilst im on holiday i feel its nice to be served your evening meal, as the hotel has a buffet mealtime it does seem a little rushed and as a couple are contantly one of you is up chosing different dishes. The maid visited everyday and cleaned the rooms. I had a back massage whilst there witch i found very good. The area was not particularly pretty but was not packed with holiday makers, the beach was deserted, a little pebbly but still very clean. The hotel was just a short walk to the local tapas bars and resturants. If you like tapas then this is the place to go. Withe very beer you buy they bring out a tapas of there choice. Its good for trying food you maynot normally choose. You may consider to do a tapas crawl inseed of a pub crawl we did and eat out and had a few beers at very little expense. We couldnt believe we were on the Costa del sol. It was nothing like the More southern areas of the district. we would defo recommend couple to visit. We ate in Gilberts one night purely as we were truely a little fed up with tapas. The resturant was a pleasent change and was glad of a hearty meal. The best place by far was Gambas on the main drag. it was a down and authentic Tapas bar with stools for eating inside and on the street. very fast and interesting. We couldnt stay away. The food is prepared in the open kitchen and served with your beer all for around 1.50 euro, its a must visit if your in the area. If you hire a car then take a trip to Mojacar on the hill its fab. If you have family try mini Hollywood, 19euros each, get there for 10am to make the most of it.

H aving lived in Spain for 6years now,we pretty much know what to expect from Spanish Hotels, Spanish people do not eat food hot, only warm, they think we are odd for eating it hot,but this Hotel had been closed for a re-fit and only re-opened in Feb, so we decided to go b&b. The Hotel itself was lovely, staff very helpful, and although we tried to speak spanish even the waitresses spoke English, I don't know how many of the waiters and waitresses in England could do that. Roquetas is very much a Spanish holiday resort and as such,is a lot quieter than other resorts....but we enjoyed the fact that it was like that.
As for our room, we booked a junior suite, it was very comfortable, with lots of space and a balcony that looked out over the swimming pool and the sea. It was furnished very nicely, and we saw no sign of dirt anywhere,in fact you can have your room cleaned every day if you wish.
The breakfast was first class, with something to please everyone from cereals and toast to a full english, eggs any way you like served straight from the pan while you wait, and one of the best selection of bread and rolls we have ever seen.
We had only booked on a b&b basis as we wanted to try other places to eat,we were pleasantly surprised that they still adhere to the old rules of tapas...every time we ordered a drink we were given a tapa free,we were told that all the bars do it to encourage you to drink there.
I can't go without adding that we found a really nice little restaurant called Gilbert's in the main road, for those of you missing your English style food this restaurant is a must, they are noted for their steaks and I must be honest it was the best steak I have had since leaving England.....and the starters and desserts are just as good....we will be returning some time soon!!
All in all, we had a good holiday,it is not everyones cup of tea,not a busy tourist hot spot but good for families with young children and those of us off for a relaxing weekend break.

Don't go there! The room we stayed in was dirty, food was disgusting and cold, the town is horrible, not at all like a nice spanish town. It was very expensive for a one week holiday.
I have never winged about a hotel before in my life on trip adviser, just want to warn you, don't go there. Also you could not get a late night drink at the bar, they were shut. Downstairs in the basement where there is the second bar, it smells musty. We also walked to the nearby so called 'port/marina' very disappointed, very grim, not pretty or no nice bars to sit and watch the world go by.
The manager was extremely unhelpful, he had our *money in his pocket* and that was apparently all he was interested in. All the so called entertainment was for children apart from one guy who strutted around like a stud who took the exercise class in the morning. Also non stop loud music around the pool. Hope this review saves you money and look somewhere else.

I just love reading previous reviews and then arriving at a Hotel to think how wonderful it is that those wingers won't be back to spoil my holiday!

We have returned 4 times in either May of October with great weather and no complaints, even when re-furbishing work was underway and the pool was being extended.

This Hotel is not for those who want a 'Brits abroad Sun newspaper and full english' experience. It is a taste of Spain with fantastic rooms as long as you go for a re-furbished one and a Junior Suite where possible. Check out the hotel's Website.

The position means you can walk for miles along the promenade, take a few paces past the stunning and immaculately maintained pool and be on the equally clean and maintained beach.

The food is also leaning towards Spanish guests and is in my opinion above average with a great choice and Chef's at hand for special requests.

Ok, all the bars and rerstaurants are not open at the time of year we visited but they don't need to be, the Spanish aren't propping the bar up all night on the lash!

All in all a good experience in a lovely part of the world and with a new Manager appointed and a 4 month closure from Oct' 08 for more refurbishing I expect the Hotel to improve further.
