We have been visiting this local Inn for some time on a regular basis, and it is hightime we recommended it to visitors to this part of the world.

The Inn is about three miles out of Bridgnorth in a country setting with views over farmland and the valley stretching down to Ludlow. The area has much to offer in the way of history and is about 6 miles from Ironbridge and its world heritage site.

Recently the Down has been refurnbished to offer high class accommodation and excellent food. There is a delicious carvery every day includidng lunchtime, and also an a la carte menu with specials which change weekly. All these meals are excellent value with a serve yourself array of a wide variety of vegetables.

I have not stayed there, but have visited and assessed the rooms.

The owner, Steve. and his staff are always very welcoming and the service is of a high standard. The dining rooms are beamed and this creates a warm and cosy atmosphere, with an open fire in the winter. The Down is popular and well used by the local farms and villages, as well as the residents of Bridgnorth.

This Inn would make an ideal centre for visitors wishing to explore this beautiful and quiet area of Shropshire which remains largely unspoiled.

Room Tip: All the rooms are of a high standard.

We stayed for 2 nights last weekend after booking through laterooms and reading the reviews on trip advisor. We found our stay to be everything we expected having read the reviews. We stayed with our two kids in the very large family room (room 1). The room was spacious with lovely furnishings and very clean. The kids were provided with camp/Z beds which were fine for our kids 8 & 5 but I suspect these would not offer much support for an older child / teenager. Service, food and drink were excellent. The staff were really polite and nothing was too much trouble. Full cooked breakfast was absolutely lovely. The rooms are great value for money in their own right but when you throw in the fact that you can just walk down the stairs and have good country pub food along with local cask ales it just gets better. In terms of the surrounding area we visited Ironbridge (where we have a passport ticket) and Ray's farm (animals and woodland walks) as well Cadbury World on the way down from Yorkshire.

A traditional English country pub/hotel. Rooms very modern and comfortable. Stopped on one of the coldest weekends of the year, but the room was toasty warm at all times. Positioned in beautiful countryside within easy driving distance of Bridgnorth. Bar serves traditional cask ales and menu for the restaurant is good quality pub food. It also has a very good carvery. All staff very friendly. Breakfast - traditional full English breakfast, freshly cooked to order. Outstanding value for money. Would use again.

Booked on spec for one night and immediately booked another three. We were really impressed by the room, comfortable, spacious, clean really nicely furnished. The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient. As for the food, well the price and quality would be hard to beat anywhere.
A great location in the beautiful Shropshire hills and close to the pretty market town of Bridgnorth.
I would (and will) heartily recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yes we have just returned from our Christmas party this has been the 4th year there and it
just gets better. It has become so popular with us that this year we had 3 seperate parties on
three days and already people are booking for next year. Food great, staff lovely, atmosphere
perfect. The entertainer Paul Birch was the icing on the cake
Haven't actually stayed in hotel but I'm sure its very nice

Superb food and efficient staff helped make an 80th birthday party for 40 including several small children, a memorable day. The staff were very helpful in making things happen exactly as we planned, serving drinks at the tables for the wines but ready poured for the champagne, rustling up a knife for the birthday cake and a lighter for the candles and even wrapping the remnants of the cake in cling-film for us to take away. I would certainly recommend The Down and hope to use it again for any similar function we plan.

The word 'Inn' denotes Traditional Hospitality and never was it more apt than at The Down Inn, Bridgnorth. From the moment we walked in to the bar area and was greeted with a genuinely warm welcome to the time we left two days later, we were made to feel like royalty by all concerned. As very weary travellers making our way home to Snowdonia from the south of England, having attended the funeral of a very dear friend, it is impossible to relay how much this was appreciated.
a) The staff were wonderfully accommodating.
b) Our room was absolutely beautiful, spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
c) The food, at the risk of seeming disingenuous, was delicious. Top quality produce, plentiful and most reasonably priced, all served with a friendly smile.
Being in the trade ourselves we feel suitably qualified to recommend The Down Inn to anyone seeking both quality AND value.
