I have stayed at Carlos' condo for few days during my first trip to Puerto Rico just a few prior to San Sebastian festival. I have decided not to stay in San Juan and experience quiet side of the island.
Carlos' condo is located in well-known residential development that all locals refer to as "Palmas". (Don't forget to get accent right too. :-)). It is fairly easy to find. Just follow google navigation system and follow the signs to main gate once you get closer. It is impossible to miss for me since they had tons of Christmas lights out.
There are two security gates- one for entire property and one for the condo complex itself. Carlos' condo is located very close to the second gate. It is very useful. The security guard, Luis, is very friendly and had a few good recommendations for the local restaurants and beaches. There is secret pathway to the beach behind the building that you can open with an access card. I won't be able to find it without Luis.
The pathway leads to Wyndham hotel. It is very chill and relaxed property. There is a restaurant, cafe and casino open to public. The beach is right behind it. There is a small beach front bar with some basic snacks. You can totally do lunch there. They have tacos, fries, salads, beers and sangria. I only wish they would stay close later, but they told me that turtle come out at night and dont want to disturb them. They close at 7:30 pm most of the days. The weather was perfect. I pretty much did not move for the whole day on that beach. Jacuzzi back at the property was nice finish for the evening.
There is a good French restaurant at Marina. It is reasonably priced and they have some of the very traditional dishes like casserole of Toulouse, etc.
I had good time at Carlos' condo. It is very roomy, good internal connection and super quiet. I will be back!
