“Immaculate Budget and Family Friendly Rental with a Million Dollar View!”
Reviewed July 5, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We spent 2 weeks traveling around the Southern and Central Dalmatian Coast with our 2 young children (7 &13 months), and spent 3 nights, 4 days on Korcula in this apartment; I found it on the website, taken by the incredible view and the right price, add Katerina, the immediately responsive English speaking landlord, available dates, and easy credit card payment, it was a perfect fit.

The location: the apartment is in the lovely and small fishing village of Prigradice, a good 30-40 minutes drive from Korcula Town; do not let this turn you off! Initially, I was a bit worried since we were so far from Korcula Town, but it was an absolute blessing because we got to experience much more of the island outside of just the tourist-heavy usual stop; you absolutely need to rent a car; Blato is the nearest big town, a few kilometers a way - there is a small market there where we stopped, but your best bet is to do a big grocery shopping either in Korcula Town (there is a huge Tommy) or in Vela Luka, which is relatively close. Ferries go to both locations, we took the Krilo Star (daily seasonal ferry from Split to Dubrovnik and back which stops at the islands, very easy and inexpensive!) which brought us to Korcula Town, I had a car delivered to the ferry parking lot, and we drove to Prigradice. (Side note - I do not recommend the car rental we used in Vela Luka. Please message me if you want more information, as this was our only negative experience during our entire travels.)

Note - it is very likely that you will get lost - once night hits, it is very dark as there are no street lights; the island's main road looks new, but the signs are few and far between, and to a tourist, they're more suggestive rather than directive - but with google maps and some patience, you'll get the hang of things, and after a day, you'll know your way around and wonder what the big deal was! Don't give up! We did get lost that first night, and came across friendly locals, both English- and non-English speaking, and with hand signals and google maps, and a picture of the apartment, we found it. When you finally hit the village, go right if you're facing the water, follow the road, and you'll hit a left turn with white letters on the ground (keep your eyes open! the turn is right after you pass a beautiful stone home with olive trees;) you follow the road, and turn right at the trash bins, your parking space is on the right. the accommodation is just down the steps.)

Prigradice isn't what you might expect in terms of a small fishing village - it seemed more like a future Laguna Beach in the making (in terms of housing, no galleries yet) than a random small village on a small island - there is a significant amount of new construction, beautiful big villas popping up left and right, gorgeous stone homes with olive groves, and 2 excellent restaurants; one konoba right on the main "harbor," excellent food, friendly service, and one more casual spot; we ate at both and enjoyed our time there immensely, both with great views. It was too far to walk with our small kids from the apartment, but it would be possible if you felt like a long stroll. There is a rocky beach right in the main part of town, but we enjoyed the swimming at the apartment.

The accommodation: there are steps up and down, so if you have mobility problems, as in need ADA accommodations, this is not a suitable fit. The landscape and setting are beautiful, the windows, doors, and paint look brand new, and there was plenty of space for our family of four. There are 2 good sized bedroom with closets, and each bedroom had a balcony (loved this!) one with clothes line. Great views from both balconies. The bathroom is galley stye, plenty big, with a washer! huge bonus. Toilet paper, paper towels, hand and dish soap were provided, as well as small towels. Bring your own beach towels. The kitchen was surprisingly big - well stocked with all essentials, including a decent sized fridge (no dishwasher), and we did cook dinner there the first night. (Note - stove is the type that you turn on the gas and click the lighter flame. A first for me... but figured it out.) There is a small table and chair in the kitchen. There is no interior family/living/tv room - that is what the large covered terrace is for, and this was the big sell for me on this apartment and where we spent most of our time when we were there. The terrace is ocean front with the most incredible view of gorgeous crystal clear water. We ate every meal outside, enjoyed the incredible and local inexpensive wines; there is a TV outside but we didn't turn it on. There is also the traditional Dalmatian "BBQ" but we had not idea what to do with it, so it just provided a lovely authentic backdrop. Candles were provided which we used to light up the balcony at night - you're also in the forest and there are mosquitos! Bring bug repellent! At night it can get very windy also, we actually had a thunder and lighting storm and downpour, but by morning it was gorgeous again.

The apartment was immaculate! Not a speck of dust or wrinkled blanket. The pictures are accurate, although we thought the rental was actually nicer in person. Swimming access is just below the apartment, 10 seconds walk down steps there is a landing and a ladder into the beautiful water which was calm enough for the kids. There were also 2 lounge chairs. I'm not certain whether the landing is considered private or open to residents around - we ended up sharing the space with a British couple who was lovely, we figured they owned the villa behind the house or next door. There was nothing awkward.

There are 2 apartments below this one which is the top floor, but they appear unoccupied and under construction although there was no construction happening while we were there. The location is incredibly peaceful and truly magical.

The island: Obviously, visit Korcula Town. But explore more! We lunched in Vela Luka, and explored Lumbarda which we highly recommend - great lunch at a water view restaurant, and a kid-friendly day use beach club with lounge chairs and umbrellas and drink service at a great swimming spot; we also highly recommend visiting Zitna Bay - not an easy find, but definitely worth the effort! You will find it, just keep trying - this was one of the most beautiful views and swimming spots I've experienced in my life, perfectly still clear pool like water.

Extra tips: Katerina met us at the ferry port parking lot and found us immediately; she speaks excellent English, and gave us a map, directions, as well as helpful phone numbers, and the wifi hot spot and password (wifi worked pretty well.) We had one dumb moment the first morning when we didn't realize there were 2 sets of keys, one to the front door, one to the balcony door, and couldn't unlock the door... I messaged Katerina, we figured it out, but she responded immediately - so it's clear that she's available and responsive if guests need anything. Note - the hot water for the shower is controlled by a switch that's near the front door. As Americans, we didn't realize this, but figured it out... and if you need the washer, don't forget to turn the knob next to the machine. We also figured this out by trial and error...

We hope to return to Korcula, and recommend this property if you have more than a day or two to spend on the island.
