First visit to La Grange which has been open almost a year. First of many hopefully.
Vers on a Sunday is a quiet, private town. You need to navigate narrow streets to find La Grange at its centre.
This old barn has been restored with care and become a welcoming high-ceiling end cafe full of light, the buzz of conversation, carefully selected food and drink and a genuine warmth given by the proprietors.
It's small but very personal. The owners select the ingredients, coffee, teas and drinks, (in some cases produce them), prepare your order then serve you.
We ordered glasses of local wine and shared quickly- assembled plates of local cheese, ham and saucisson alongside homemade humus, tapenade, fig jam and pickles. All very tasty and representing local flavours at their best.
Around us other patrons enjoyed their coffees, tisanes and slices of homemade cake
Our only quibble would be that there was not a greater choice of food available - perhaps because it was Sunday. In any case the welcome was warm and it is obvious that the owners care about every plate or drink they serve.
I hope to go back to sit on the terrace, watch the slow rhythms of Vers and enjoy the hospitality of La Grange many times in future.
PS it shouldn't matter but if you are not confident of your French the proprietors speak English !
