Chose this hotel because of the good reviews on Trip, but have to say for me it came up a somewhat short.

Started well - attractive building on a pretty square, in a lovely area of the old town. Public parking is available in the front of the hotel and they will supply a card, so that you don't need to pay the parking fee. The young man on reception was friendly and helpful and we were charmed by the old world feel and the quaint décor.

Room nice enough if a little tired, however the bed proved to be very uncomfortable and the pillows were 'pancakes' offering no cushioning or support at all. Shower room very old world and the shower cubicle was unbelievably narrow. On the plus side, there was a bidet.

Having strolled around the town, we returned to the hotel and the same young man on reception happily arranged drinks for us at a pavement side table, in front of the hotel, before we had to go to our room to get changed for dinner. This pleasant and friendly member of staff, made a point of wishing us a good weekend when he left at the end of his shift.

Lovely dining room with wood panelling and old beams, with prettily laid tables. Vast menu, which even in English left us confused and struggling. Basically though, starters comprises a choice from the Antipasti trolley and then a choice of meats (roast or boiled) from the meat trolley. Then there is a veg & salad trolley and finally a dessert trolley. There are other choices on set menus, when pasta and other main courses are served. Portion sizes at huge and it was impossible to eat all of the food served to us. I noted that some local people dining only had the antipasti and then a dessert - wish we had opted for this approach.

Biggest issue for me was the waiting service which was patchy and there was one particularly rude waitress, who made it quite plan she was irritated we are not able to speak or understand Italian and who went as far as to snigger about it with another member of staff in our presence. She made it obvious she resented serving us and made the dinner quite an uncomfortable and unpleasant experience.

Definitely would not rush back to this hotel, although I'd be happy to visit the old town again.

we had been held up at Milan and was very late arriving. but we had phoned ahead and let them know.
we were quickly shown our room and advised where to park as there was a market the next day.
the room was adequate but very clean.
the hotel has a restaurant but we didn't use it.
the breakfast was good with a fine selection of meats cheeses and breads.
the hotel is right on the town square where there are bars and cafes , it was buzzing .

Room tip: the wifi didnt work .....

This is a charming hotel. Our rooms were a bit small but very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with a mix of local meats, cheese, fruit, juices, bread and pastries! The value was exceptional! Our only regret is that we didn't book for dinner. The restaurant has a Michelin rating and very reasonable prices.
The staff were friendly, and very helpful. We were given a few recommendations on the best local sites. (I highly recommend stopping by the local Parmesan Cheese factory/shop - Parmigiono Reggiono 633 Caseificio matriculation 300?. They very graciously gave us a tour of their small factory)

I have stayed at this family run hotel multiple times and may stay has always been perfect. The front desk always greet you with a smile and are always willing to help you in every way. The hotel has a lot of charm and personality, if you would picture a small town family run hotel, this is it!

The also have an excellent restaurant that serves traditional Italian food of excellent quality and taste.

Room tip: There are only good rooms, some on the small side and the ones facing the street can be somewhat noisy in the summer time.

This was our second stay in three years in this hotel, in the same apartment. We loved it for the positioning - it gave us the possibility to visit each of the major cities in Emilia Romagna, from Parma to Bologna. Rubiera itself is a small town, but the ancient Roman Via Emilia passes thorough the centre and the city has the peaceful, old feeling. The hotel has been built as an addition to first class restaurant, which we visited during our first stay there. Yes, the restaurant is nice, but is overpriced. It is included in the Michelin guide and is always full to the brim. The hotel however is not always full and tends to be neglected - the rooms have this smell of an old building; in our apartment we could hear the air conditioning of the restaurant. In the bathroom there were big spiderwebs. However, generally we were OK with our stay, as the hotel still preserves this family feeling.

Room tip: The apartment (Room 27) is very noisy until the restaurant is open
