We wanted to find an out-of-the-way place to stay on a vacation near Sienna, Italy. I was online looking for vacation rentals in that area when I found Castello di Montalto, an authentic 1000-year old castle outside Sienna. This place was exactly what we needed. For 7 days we stayed in an apartment in one of the towers that guarded this castle for centuries. During the day we traveled to many hill-top towns in the Tuscany region, and in the evening we spent quiet nights reading by the fireplace. It was early June and, yes, several nights we made a fire. Diana and Giovanni Coda-Nunziante, only the third family to own this castle in centuries, are gracious hosts who's sole ambition is to make your stay at Montalto an unforgettable experience. And unforgettable it is !!

If you love Italy as we do and would like to experience life as it was centuries ago, take a look at www.montalto.it. We think you will find it enchanting.

Room Tip: This is a walled castle with 12 apartments scattered about. Two are outside the walls. Some apartments are large and can handle 6 or more guests. Other only 2. The website has all the information to help you chose the best accomodation for your needs.

We were lucky to have found montalto through the net and after a visit in the winter, we decided to organise our wedding there in september. Our families, friends and anyone involved in the event felt the absolute magic of the place. A very big thank you to diana and giovanni who graciously guided us and supported all our decisions. Looking forward to visit you again soon. highly recommended and forever part of our journey.

Castello di Montalto is a most worthwhile experience. The aesthetics of the architecture, the gardens, the views and the apartment combined to make this the most enjoyable and comfortable stay in our experience. The location is perfect for visiting Tuscany's and Umbria's treasures. Breakfasts were a great value, offering abundance, quality and variety. Thanks to Alexandro we had excellent guidance for all of our touring both nearby and throughout Tuscany and were able to manage all the "little things" with ease. Diana and Giovani are superb hosts. We cannot reccomend Castello di Montalto more highly.

Room Tip: All the apartments we saw offer wonderful views and amenities. The most recently refurbished apartments are larger and are furnished handsomely with the best views and a terrace.

With a group of friends, I have just completed my fifth stay at Montalto, this time in Loggia. And again, all of my party found that our stay was excellent value for money. Warm welcome, helpful and informative staff, perfect location for exploration of Tuscany. When we weren't out sightseeing, we enjoyed the pool or the walking opportunities around the castle. The nearby village of Castelnuovo became our second home. Once again, our enjoyment of the Montalto experience was underscored by the hospitality and warmth of Diana and Giovanni, and by the consistent helpfulness of Alexander. I look forward eagerly to my next visit, and warmly commend Montalto to prospective visitors to Tuscany. Michael (Australia)

We were two couples age late 50's to early 60's. Stayed in the tower for 2 weeks and found it absolutley amazing. Our hosts Diana, Giovanni and Alessandro made us feel so very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them. The tower was just as we expected, full of charm, character and creak and of course the resident ghost as befits a castle. We enjoyed our walks through the woods and out lesiurely lunches under the patio. The beds were comfortable and the showers hot, and the kitchen was well laid out and practical.
The nearest train station (Bucine) is 20 minutes away (if you drive like an Italian) and 25 minutes or so if you come from anywhere else, from there you can of course connect to anywhere in Europe. We utilised this method of transport to visit Florence (for the day) and Venice for an over night stay. Both trip abour 2 hours each way.
We adored our time at the castle and have only positive memories of our stay in every way.
Thankyou Giovanni, Diana for letting us share your castle with you, and thankyou Alessandrso (jack of all trades).
