“a brilliant holiday in a wonderful house”

My wife myself and my wife's aunt and uncle spent an idyllic week at Il Viscioli. The house is wonderful with fantastic views and is in a great location for touring the region. We did some driving to see some of the local beauty spots and also used the excellent local bus to go into Florence. The rest of the time we enjoyed lazing about in the sun at the house or walking the 5 minutes into the village to enjoy the cafes and restaurants. The house had everything you would want and Flora, Alesandro and Carlo are most helpful if required but never obtrusive. We have done many villa holidays in France but Il Viscioli is our first in Italy but was as good as the best we have experienced before. We definitely will go back and enjoy Flora's wonderful house again.

A gorgeous home situated on an olive grove and overlooking a breathtaking view of the rolling Tuscan countryside. All of this and within easy walking distance of many wonderful restaurants and one great little bar.
We really enjoyed our stay at this spacious, clean, and well appointed home. The beds were very comfortable and the view from the bedroom every morning was amazing, as well as the view from the patio area during sunset. Owner Flora and her son were very welcoming and there for us if we needed any sightseeing advice or if any problems arose (none did everything was perfect).
While in town we managed to eat at one wonderful restaurant after an other, the food was great everywhere. Also, there is a bar in town (I wish I knew the name of it, but I think it's the only bar in town} that has a great selection of Italian and Belgian beers to try as well as a couple of young owners that could not be more hospitable. They really treated us like friends which was so nice when you are so far from home and don't know anyone.
Well, overall really a nice place and don't forget to try Flora's homemade olive, it's good stuff!

“Simply wonderful property in ideal location!”
Reviewed December 26, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

I spent two weeks at Il Visciolo in late August / early September 2013, together with my wife and our 22-year-old son. We struck it lucky in every possible way! Il Visciolo is a simply wonderful old property, which has been lovingly restored by its present owners. The house is very comfortable and extremely well equipped. The views across the valley from the terrace are stunning - an extremely relaxing place to spend time, from breakfast through to apéritifs.

The owners, Flora, Alessandro and Carlo, live in the house next door. We saw Flora the most, and we found her to be charming and extremely helpful.

From the property it is less than 5 minutes' walk into the centre of the small town of San Casciano. Here you will find everything you need, from a well-stocked co-op supermarket to lovely little pasta shops, patisseries, cafes and shops. And of course there are many excellent restaurants to choose from too, all within easy walking distance of the house. We particularly liked Cinque de Vino (currently no. 1 on Tripadvisor).

The location of San Casciano is perfect for exploring Tuscany. Pisa and Siena are easy drives (and car parking is remarkably easy in these cities), as are many quaint villages. Florence itself is very close too, but probably best to take the public bus (Flora can advise!). In fact, a hire car is not an absolute requirement for staying in Il Visciolo, though clearly you do have more flexibility if you have one.

In summary, then, I can highly recommend Il Visciola. We have been taking holidays in rented apartments all over Europe for the last 15 years, and I am happy to say that Il Visciolo is definitely one of the best properties we have ever rented! We will certainly be going back.

A warm welcome by the owners. The house was clean, tidy and spacious. At walking distance to the centre of the charming town. Good secure parking facility. Firenze can be visited by local bus transport. Other highlights of Tuscany nearby. Inventory is more than complete. Ample bed and bathroom linen is available. Although situated at a local main road no traffic noise is heard. The house is surrounded by a well-kept lovely garden overlooking the hills. We would highly recommend Il Visciolo.

“Exceptional”

We spent a week in October 2013 at Il Visciolo enjoying the wonderful hospitality of Flora and Alessandro.
The villa is exactly as it is portrayed on the Villa's website. Fully self contained, spotlessly clean and located in a very serene and peaceful setting.
Location is ideal - 35 minute bus ride to center of Florence. 5 minute walk to center of San Casciiano and close to a large Coop supermarket. San Casciiano is charming and walkable with several restaurants and shops.
The hospitality of the owners was exceptional - friendly, helpful but not intrusive. We were welcomed with a bottle of excellent wine, olive oil, olives from their orchard, crackers and cheese. When we mentioned that we were not planning to go out for dinner, Flora quickly provided some wild boar salami, fresh tomatoes and fresh bread for our dinner.
Flora was an English teacher and, of course, is fully bilingual. Very warm and outgoing, she provided helpful information and hints during our week stay.
Overall, our experience with Il Visciolo was outstanding in all respects. Highly recommended without reservation.
Thank you Flora and Alessandro!!

“Best choice made whilst on a 3 month European trip!!”

Absolutely thrilled with our choice to stay here!! We have stayed in many 'well recommended' places, only to find the descriptions such as walking distance, amenities, helpfulness of hosts to be misleading.....this place is just tops!!! We found the bus route from Rome railway station easy, we were met by Flora and Carlo who then proceeded to give us an excellant briefing of the house and the area AND also had chilled white wine, olives and cheese nibbles waiting in the fridge! The house is perfect and has every amenity that you could wish for (including washing machine, dishwasher, etc) however for us, the main attraction was the huge patio with a view over the Tuscan hillsides. The house is well within walking distance to excellent restaurants, pharmacies, bars, bus station, (everything!!) but once through the gates you feel as if you are in your own Tuscan world. Flora, Alessandro, and Carlo are on hand but never intrusive. . . .you do not feel aware that they are on the property and have your own separate entrance. The house is even so well equipped that it has an awning and outside lamps that are operated automatically by solar power!! We have found sitting on the patio at night, sipping a glass of excellant Tuscan wine and watching the sunset with the Cyprus pines and distant Tuscan homes silhouetted against the pink sky to be magical. We have found it to be truly relaxing whilst still able to easily access Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, and Pisa on day trips. Thank you to all of the family for making our stay so pleasant!! If returning to Tuscany (and we hope so!!) we will have no hesitation of where to stay . . .we love Il Visciolo and San Casciano!!

Management Response
30 Jul 2013
Thank you very much for your appreciation. Regarding water, after your departure we noticed that the water heater in the bathroom had the control knob set to the minimum, that is why you experienced a less hot water. You just had to rotate the control knob to increase the temperature on your needs. We agree that the TV is not among the big ones, being a screen size 21" with a 4:3 aspect ratio. But we think that a bigger one would not fit with the rural style of the house.
