We stayed here last week for four nights. The staff were very helpful and friendly, our room was very comfortable, with a large double bed and super comfy mattress. Very modern, super clean shower and toilet etc. The breakfast room is in the very lovely roof top cafe – you get great views over the fish market opposite. You have a choice of cereals (sadly no muesli), some fruit, yogurts and cold meats and cheeses and hot scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon. Also, toast, buns and tea and coffee etc. More than enough to keep you going. The lady in charge of the breakfast cafe was very friendly and helpful. Overall, the place has a relaxed yet very efficient feel. The only thing I missed was tea and coffee making stuff in the rooms but then it was really reasonable to order huge pots of teas from the roof top cafe, so that made up for it. The location is excellent, opposite the fish market, which is as vibrant and as lively and as busy as any I have ever seen. Fishing boats come from all over Portugal and Spain to sell their fish here. The market starts a 4am and continues until midday. The fish is auctioned but you can visit for free if you want. Luckily, O Valentim bed room windows have super, super thick double glazing so we were not disturbed by the noise. The hotel is smack bang in a street full of fish restaurants ( not surprisingly). We ate at the O Valentim one night. I got sardines (boring of me given the fantastic choice). They were lovely, super fresh and lovely potatoes with them. My partner got a kind of munkfish stew, which was really tasty. The place was busy, but the staff were still happy to spend time explaining the specials etc and how fish is ordered ( by the weight). One night we also ate in Tito 1, just across the road. I think of the two restaurants I preferred the Tito 1, it had a cozier, more personal feel to it and the fish was so delicious. We got grilled sardines to start and Dorado between us for main. In this street, the fish are cooked on braziers outside the restaurant. The smell of the fish cooking is so lovely, and it looks quite amazing, especially in the evening. Matosinhos itself is about 10/11 kilometers from Porto. You can easily catch a bus or the metro into the centre of Porto, or walk to it along the coast, which we did one day. The beaches are quite stunning, south of Matoshinos we saw heaps of surf schools and surfers falling about he waves. But the coast is even more dramatic if you go northwards, where you can also visit the light house of Lerca (well worth it and free every fourth Wednesday - but check in the very excellent tourist office of Matoshinos which is at the beginning of Matosinhos beach, just a stone's throw away from O Valentim. There's also a great coast walk northwards, it stretches for kilometres along boardwalks (ignore the oil refinary), with tea rooms and coffee shops scattered on the way. This coast is also part of the Camino Santiago pilgrim way ( you can get your card stamped at the tourist office). There was a fab exhibition of "the history of the motorbike" if you like that kind of thing (which my partner does) at the Matoshinos School of Design, which was free. So, worth checking out to see what is on. There was also an free art show on at the local library. We also visited the Bom Jesus de Matosinhos Church, so stunning and well worth a visit. We were glad we stayed here and not in Porto, which is lovely but so touristy. Being in Matoshinos you get the best of both worlds and the O Valentim was a great place to stay.

Thank you for your comment. It was perhaps the most gratifying comment we have had since we opened the hotel. Matosinhos undoubtedly has immense potential as a tourist destination and we are happy to contribute directly to the region. Reading this comment, we realized without doubt that in a short time he was able to make the most of it. We hope to continue to do a good job and have the opportunity to receive clients like this. Best regards,
O Valentim.
