“Beautiful.”
Reviewed March 13, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

Stayed here for a week in March with friends after being recommended by some work colleagues. And I,m so glad we listened to them.
The villa, outdoor space and the views are amazing. We had all gone to just relax and this certainly is the right place to do this.
It is a quiet area about 4 miles from Playa Blanca which is a lovely walk. There is a supermarket, a few restaurants and a lovely bakery about 15 minutes walk away. We didn't hire a car we just walked everwhere and got a taxi back which was only 5 euro.
The management team were very helpful. If we had any queries they resolved it straight away.
I would definitely recommend villa riptide and will definitely be returning.

I would buy this place!

Every year just before Christmas, we treat ourselves to a break - not only to help ease the frantic Christmas shopping but also to celebrate my wifes birthday. Having spent the past 4/5 years at Griffon Forest Lodges in York (which are great for a UK getaway) we decided that this year we would treat ourselves to some sunshine. So began the search for the perfect break in the sunshine, and the Canaries appeared as the obvious choice. A work colleague (who used to work in the travel industry) recommended Playa Blanca and having trawled through various hotels - which to be honest dont really appeal to us as we are not keen on the all inclusive - I somewhat fell upon Casa Riptide. The pictures on the website looked stunning so I took the plunge and booked it direct with the owner via email - no problems whatsover. So glad I did as once we got there it was exactly as displayed in the pictures - stunning! As the previous reviewer says you literally do go "WOW!"

But then, as the days went by, Im afraid to say that we struggled to agree with the previous reviewer as all we did every day was go "WOW!" again.... and again...and again. Everything about Casa Riptide was simply perfect. The place really is stunning! If you want the perfect retreat to unwind, escape from it all, and stay somewhere where you feel that youve won the lottery then this is it! Trust me - it really is that good.

So what sets it apart from every else? Well for starters as soon as you walk in you are greeted with a marble floor decor that opens through a hallway entrance in to a main living room that is tastefully decorated and which has a stylish contempary spanish feel to it. Large windows and veranda doors lead on to a terrace displaing an ocean view you simply dream of. An open plan kitchen has all you need for you to simply stock up and not go anywhere should you so wish, and an arrival pack consisting of water, a bottle of wine, cheese, meats, bread, milk, etc means that you neednt worry about rushing off to stock up on supplies.

The main bedroom has a double bed with doors that look out to the same view as the terrace. We did open these though only accassionally to let a bit of air in to the room - and to let the mosquitos in which we probably shouldnt have done. Yes - be warned - there are mosquiotos in December. Dont know why we thought there wouldnt be but we werent prepared for that, waking up on the 2nd morning to find they'd had their feed on the both of us to some effect! A quick visit to the local store to pick up some spray and plugs soon put pay to that though - oh and making sure the doors stayed shut. There are two bathrooms/en-suites so we had once each - one even had a bath which I was surprised at and which I took full advantage of one morning, being a lover of lazing in soaky water.

Talking of lazing in hot water, the hot tub is not to be missed. And yes it is a hot tub - no problems with the temperature whatsoever. Its well large enough for four, so even better for two of you. We spent almost every night in there and with the night sky displaying stars youve never seen before what better way would you want to chill/unwind? The villa provides dressing gowns and plenty of towels so you can easily dip in and out without the need to dash frantically back in to the villa. Oh and we even had the luxury of experiencing a meteor shower one evening - quality!

Theres also a bbq available - though we didnt use it, so cant comment too much, except its nice and big and stands outside next to the pool. The pool has a cover on it to help keep the heat in and keep the flies, etc out and is extremely pleasant, being warmed just the right temperature so you can have a warm/cool dip for when the sun gets a bit too much.

A collection of 6 sunbeds were fully made use of - 3 to the front and then 3 in the corner by the pool (which is a bit of a suntrap and escapes the gentle breeze/winds that come in from the ocean which my wife prefferred). Lazing in the sun on a December day in such a perfect environment takes some beating!

As previously stated the view is simply unbeleivable - the sheltered terrance looks out across the entire Atlantic Ocean and you will spend many an hour just sat there in awe at the waves that come crashing on to the rocks in front of you. There is a path that lies between yourselves and the rocks, but such is the location of the villa that you find only the seasoned walker goes by. Thats another feature of the Villa - its location, ie how secluded you are. Oh and the sunsets are simply breathtaking!

Sky tv is available, though we preferred to watch dvds on a couple of nights, with a nice collection of about 30 or so available for you to pick from. Would recommend Heartbreak something or other if you like romantic comedies - its in French subtitles but dont let that put you off! Though if you prefer the more serious award winning oscar nominated bore you may just want to plump for Revolutionary Road and then proceed to slit your wrists thereafter.

A visit by John and/or Jayne who look after the place for the owners on the 2nd day mid-morning allows you to easily settle in and ask any questions about the villa and area. We only met John (and his son, Stephen I think his name was) but he was very friendly and pleasnt and is available at any time should you have any problems/questions

It is a bit of a walk in to Playa Blanca itself, about 40 - 50 minutes at a leisurely pace, though with the coastal path taking you right across the headland it is extremely pleasant. The villa provides two bikes which we used on our penultimate day and personally I found these much more enjoyable to the walking. It also meant we didnt need to take the easy route and jump a cab back - which by the way is just 5.5 euros.

We hired a car direct from the airport, and although not neccessary I would recommend as it makes the small trip to the shops and restaurants much easier. Transfer to the villa takes about 30 mins and is an easy pleasurable experience being more or less a straight road to Play Blanca. Directions to the Villa itself are supplied and are easily followable. We used Cabrara Medina as recommended by the owner and had no problems whatsoever, with it costing us just 20 euros to fill it up to half a tank just the once - returning it back to the quarter necessary for its return.

I could carry on and on about this Villa and Playa Blanca for ever, but having landed in the early hours of this morning, worked a full day, and appear to have got somewhat carried away attempting to do the place justice, Im now going to retire. Hopefully my enthusiasm and praise for the place has come across and I still have a smile on my face just thinking of our stay there this last week.

One final word is that I wasnt actually going to write a review as I didnt want anyone else to know about it, as Id be afraid it would get booked up for when we want go again! In other words I wanted to keep it a secret. That really wouldnt do the place justice though. If your reading this then presumably your contemplating booking it. Do it and then sit back knowing youve just booked the holiday youve always dreamed of! Enjoy!

“Superb location, a little more attention to detail required.”
Reviewed November 7, 2012 for a stay in October 2012

Upon arrival you instantly get the "wow" factor. Fantastic views, spacious and well decorated with welcome food package. The weather was balmy and you could feel the humidity all around. Within a couple of hours we realised that the electric lights and the hot tub were not working. This was reported and an electrician came round instantly. He replaced a complete unit, which had burnt out, and said he was going to talk to the owner and recommend changing how the electrics are wired! The swimming pool is advertised as "heated" but felt chilly. After chatting to the guy who came to clean the pool mid week, it turned out that he had gone to turn the heater on the day before our arrival and it was broken. Not sure if it was repaired, but I would have thought it took more than a day to heat a swimming pool! The Villa is advertised as having a hot tub. This it has, but it is not hot. They run it at 35 degrees. We asked if it could be turned up and they put it up to 36 degrees! I understand the correct temperature to run a hot tub is 37-39 degrees. About 4/5 days into our one week holiday, the damp atmosphere was really going from bad to worse. I had to tumble dry the bed linen before I could get into bed because it was so damp. Next day I chatted to the guy who looks after the place and he said "there is a de-humidifier in the garage". So he put it on, and we must have taken out a good couple of buckets of water during our last two days stay.
All these things are down to penny pinching and bad management. More care is required.

Management Response
10 Dec 2012
I am both saddened and upset by the review submitted on 7th November. I'm sad because this lady didn't enjoy her holiday and upset because she hasn't stated all the facts.

The week of this rental saw Lanzarote with unusually humid weather and a strong westerly wind which caused the sea spray at high tide to hit the villa. Locals referred to the weather as 'Freak weather.' When my manager arrived at the villa, the guests complained about the damp in the bedroom. He went into the master bedroom and immediately felt the sea spray on his face: the guests had left the patio doors open, so of course the bedding was going to get wet and the room become damp as a result. I believe we must always respect the elements and you don't get more frontline than Villa Riptide: it's 62 metres from the sea.

The pool heater was repaired on 26th October and heater was on from that point. I have spent a lot of money on renewing the electrical wiring at the villa and have certificates to prove this. Our wonderful Electrician, who, as the review states, did arrive immediately, had had a problem with water getting into a unit which caused the problem. It was resolved and more work is scheduled for January. I honestly don't understand the complaint about the hot tub. My managers, who I trust implicitly, said the tub was hot. Our only suspicion is that with the electrical problem, it had cooled down considerably before power was restored.

Finally, please don't accuse me of penny pinching: Guests who have returned to the villa not once, but four times with a fifth booking in place, will tell you how much we spend to maintain the villa at the standard our guests deserve. We address problems immediately with the help of our Managers, who incidentally have never been accused of bad management, and we are constantly improving the villa. We cannot however control the weather.

I know this lady was so looking forward to her holiday and apologise if she feels we have let her down in any way.

“The best villa we have ever stayed in”
Reviewed May 26, 2012 for a stay in April 2011

We love this villa - in fact we love it so much that we are just about to visit again for the fourth time. The villa is absolutely gorgeous with everything you could possibly need and more. And the view is stunning, we love to sit on the verandah just watching the ever-changing views of the sea and the sky. If you want a relaxing, peaceful holiday in luxurious surroundings then this would be ideal. Yet, you are near enough everything you need. The owners genuinely love sharing this beautiful villa and do everything they can to make your stay special. Can't recommend it highly enough.
