“Fantastic spa and glass of proseco for breakfast - perfect mini holidays”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2011

If you looking for nice place to stay in Costa Blanca Albir Playa Hotel & Spa is the perfect place to stay. Good location - only ten minutes walk to the beach but not to noisy becouse of the night life of the resort. Room was spacious with big double bed and great mountain view. Food was great and there was a lot of vegie option and even soya milk as well. During our stay they have a special offer in spa - 90 minutes cost only 10euro which was fantastic, regular price is 22euro but is worth it!! Staff was friendly and helpfull - our flight back was at 7pm and they let us stay in the room a hour longer, rest of the time we enjoyed by the pool. Don't take beach towels with you - you will get one at the reception- just have to pay 10 euro deposit and you can have fresh towel every day! After all we love to be back to Albir Playa Hotel & Spa as soon as possible:)

If you like air conditioning in your room then think again about booking to stay here. We have just come back after 4 nights and it was like sleeping in a sauna even with the balcony door open. When we asked reception why the air con was not working we were told that it is not turned on until the end of May as it is too cold, yet it is on in the reception & dining area. We asked if we could have a fan but was told that they don't have any. Worse 4 nights sleep I have ever had. The food if nice but repetitive, more variety would have been good.
The sauna 10 out of 10, 90 minutes for 10 euros each, well worth it.
Albir is a very nice & relaxing place, if you want boom boom boom you can get a number 10 bus to the centre of Benidorm for under 2 euros takes about half hour.

On the surface what a lovely hotel “The Albir Playa and Spa” is until you stay there.
Oh what a big disappointment everyone makes this hotel sound brilliant “BUT” just back and thought I would tell all about our experience. The rooms were a bit dusty (check under the bed), the reception staff were helpful but the restaurant was a disaster. The food was terrible; the breakfast items were cold (eggs, bacon, beans, potato things etc.) and who eats broccoli or cauliflower for breakfast? Or were they reheated leftovers from the night before? The night time meals were so bad without the labels you would not have known what “not” to eat, thank god for the local restaurants who saved the holiday. The restaurant staff were very slow to clear away dishes possibly due to a lack of staff. Asked about the air-conditioning in the room when we arrived and was told it would not be switched on until 21st May 2011 so our room was like an oven at night. The pool area looked as if the pool attendant was on holiday as the loungers were very dirty and in some cases needed replaced again not what we expected. The hotel entrance and main bar area was nice but I don’t spend my holiday there. The bar also charge 1 euro for a glass of ice or 5 euro for an ice bucket (99cent for a huge bag from Lidil).I get the impression the hotel is going through a big cut back program and their customers “that’s us” will suffer. Spoke to a couple who went there every year and they were very disappointed with the service. I hope the management team read this and do something before they lose there number 1 position.

It was absolutely worth the money, treated my boyfriend to a short break and we both fell in love with the hotel. Staff were very friendly and the hotel was spotless! The spa was amazing!!! Just £10 per person for entry and this included using the Jacuzzi, Turkish bath, spa, indoor pools etc for 1 hour and a half! But we stayed there for three without anyone saying anything :D the local people from Altea aren’t very friendly but you’ll come across a few who are this was also the case in Benidorm . Finally the spa is a must! We went two days in a row... and also just 1.30 to Benidorm which takes like 20mins. Not a lot of water sports or other activities to do for young people other than sun bathing and visiting bars etc. Although the internet did not work in my room or on the computers provided it was still amazing!

The Albir Playa is a fantastic hotel based in Albir which is about 12K away from the buzz of Benidorm. Albir itself is a seaside town which seems to have a lot or nordic people around and this is reflected in some of the bars and cafes.

We walked into Altea and climbed the millions of steps to see the church though it was shut (tip - make sure its open before the climb!)

We stayed half board in the hotel and the food was fine though there was at least one random item per meal (usually breakfast) and it became quite fun trying to predict what it would be - examples for breakfast included fried chicken, chicken nuggets and broccoli !

All in all we would thoroughly recommend this hotel and Albir itself.

last month i posted a review on our stay at albir gardens but i have to say the a lbir playa and spa is in a different class entirely the place is spotless and the staff are professional and friendly, the pool area includes a jacuzi and waterfall as well as a kids play area and pool bar. future guests should understand that this hotel draws guests from most parts of europe hence the wide choice of foods in the restaurant we certainly did not have a problem with the food on offer. albir itself is a small town with a clean small beach and plenty of restaurants if you fancy the bright lights of benidorm its only 1.30 euros on the good bus s ervice finally as a measure of the service we recieved we had to leave the hotel at 7.00am for our flight and the staff opened the dining room early so that we could have breakfast says it all i think oh and free wifi.

I had never been to this part of Spain before and boy was I pleased we ended up here and not in Benidorm! Location wise, it is a short stroll to the beach and the promenade which stretches into Altea and the rather lovely Marina is gorgeous. There are plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and patisseries (try the one opposite) so it is as lively as you want it to be, although the overall atmoshpere is tranquil and delightful.

The hotel itself is modern as are the rooms. The rooms have everything you need (be aware the safe is 4 euros/night), but are not terribly exciting. However, they are exceptionally clean, as is the rest of the hotel.

Food is generally good and we always managed to find something to our liking. Drinks with your meal are reasonable prices i.e. glass of wine £1.40, small glass bottle of water £1.50. We found the service to be excellent and indeed all the staff in the restaurant and bars were great.

There are plenty of fellow Brits about and other Europeans, but what I liked most was that there were plenty of Spanish families which gave it a really nice atmosphere, plus the Spanish are really up for the evening entertainment and are good at enjoying themselves! The evening entertainment was varied, but did not start until 22:30, a bit late for my liking.

Went to the Spa, 10 euros each, good but maybe avoid evenings as it was packed.

The grounds are small, but nicely done. However, the pool was freezing and I would like a bigger pool if I was here for a week as I like a good swim when on my hols.

The bus into Benidorm is a block away and 2.60 euros for 2 people one way.

On a different note, watch out if you are getting the 'shuttle transfer' (as per Jet 2 holidays and others I'm sure) - it's a tooth pulling 2 hours experience! You drop off at all the hotels in Benidorm before getting to Albir, the same going back, so a waste of holiday time, nearly as long as the flight!

Also, as much as I love Spain, it is now expensive, so be prepared to cough up and be bold and ask for Menu del Dia if eating out for better value.

Otherwise, I can happily recommend the hotel.
