It would be unfair to describe Pentillie as a mere B&B; there are loads of common parts for the enjoyment of guests & dinner is available albeit on some nights more of a DIY job. The bedrooms are sumptuous & the east facing ones have wonderful views of the meandering river Tamar which runs alongside the grounds. The price may appear hefty but we found it well worth it. The grounds are extensive & if you’re lucky you’ll be taken for a walk by one of the house Labradors (they know the way to Sir James’s Mausoleum from which there are further spectacular views)

PERFECT venue for our family birthday celebration! We booked Pentille Castle for a week with our family to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. From the friendly reception we received, to the beautiful Castle itself and the most amazing views of the Tamar, we enjoyed the most wonderful holiday. There are 9 beautiful en-suite bedrooms, light and airy and very clean. We had a wonderful time enjoying the walled garden outdoor swimming pool and the magnificent walks around the grounds. The staff work tirelessly to ensure the gardens look amazing and yet walking around, it feels like you are in the wilds. Thank you to all the staff at Pentille for our warm welcome, for all your hard work to make this Gem of a place such a lovely place to stay!

We booked the whole Castle for our family for a week's holiday to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. With 9 beautiful en-suite bedrooms and an attic room with private facilities, it was perfect for us. A warm welcome awaited us, the staff were friendly and so helpful! How would we describe the Castle? SUPERB, a real gem. From the impressive long drive to the beautiful grounds, the walled garden with outdoor swimming pool, the extensive grounds to walk around and enjoy, everything was just fabulous. We self -catered (Tesco at home - brill) and enjoyed leisurely breakfasts, lunches and dinners both in the huge dining room and on the stone verandah, sitting outside till very late in the evening, enjoying the May weather or relaxing in the large drawing room playing board games as a family. During our week long stay the staff came in periodically to "tidy" and change the bedding and towels at a time to suit us, which we thought was a real bonus. There is a games room in the basement with lots of games, DVD's, a TV, pool table/table tennis table, dart board. Outside games included boules and croquet, which was fun if a little challenging!!!
Pentille Castle definitely has the "wow" factor! We all had a fabulous time and the memories we made will remain with us for many years to come, along with an abundance of photos and videos to enjoy. I would highly recommend it for its location to many places of interest/enjoyment, for family/friends self-catering venue, hotel and wedding/special celebration. If you want to treat your loved one or your family, Pentille will fulfill all your expectations. Many thanks to all the staff who work tirelessly in both the Castle and in the grounds, it is a real credit to your hard work and dedication!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are beautiful, but the best are those with a view of the Tamar

This was our third stay at Pentillie this year and we shall be back again soon. The rooms are luxurious and spacious, very comfy beds and lovely views, Food is delicious and we especially like the DIY dinners, which can be enjoyed on the terrace, weather permitting. The grounds are amazing and very extensive, with beautiful walks through the woods or down to the river. The staff and owners could not be more friendly and helpful. Try the home grown apple juice!

We stayed for 2 nights as we thought it was a good base for site seeing. The first impression driving up the driveway was "wow". I loved the history of the castle and they have done a lovely job of renovating. It feels very relaxed and definitely has a homely feel. The staff are lovely and we really enjoyed eating in the kitchen on our first night. The rooms are gorgeous and comfortable and we loved walking around the grounds. We had never seen pheasants before so that was fun watching them. It was a shame it was too warm to light a fire. Staying with a big group would be great. It is isolated so be prepared to drive or taxi to restaurants etc.
