Stopped by chance one evening whilst holidaying in Suffolk. Great food and lovely staff/atmosphere. It was so good we went back again on our last night. Can recommend the fish and chips and the vegetarian tagine. Oh - and the sticky toffee pudding of course. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Suffolk.

The Crown is an impressive establishment, with a wonderfully set out Resturant. We dined in the conservatory and had plenty of room for the four of us and the table was in plenty of space. The tables are all of different styles. Even though the chairs have no cushions, our table, and I noticed several others were a bit low for the chairs and we struggled to get our legs underneath. So less comfortable than first impressions. Service was very quick and super efficient. We decided not to have starters and our two course meal could easily have been over in less than an hour.

The main problem was the size of the portions.

We had a decent bowl of flavoursome bread delivered to the table. And the Resturant has excellent beer and a reasonable wine cellar.

Our best main course for quantity was the beer battered fish and chips which was a good portion. The fish however in the loverly batter was a smaller than normal portion and also very watery in texture (maybe it was from frozen stock but I do not know what would cause watery texture)

Two of our group had the belly pork and the portions were very small. Presentation was attempting fine dinning effect with the meal stacked together taking up less than a third of the plate. The rest being a swirl of sauce. The plates were not warmed only the area under food had any warmth (from the food). Although tasty the portion was small, there was no crackling and no one told us we needed to order extra side dishes to make it a meal.

I had the Suffolk Lamb. Three tiny croquette potatoes. Three silver skin onions and a couple of shavings of carrot. The lamb sat on a tablespoon of spinach. The three slices of lamb were a bit too rare as the fat was still uncooked. At £19 for this tiny portion of lamb and it would have taken a couple of side dishes to make a meal, if we had known. But that would have made this plate dearer than a two course lunch time meal at the Cafe Royal in central London.

Our puddings were very nice but again expensive at almost £8 each. With the very nice cheese board at almost £10.

I would say it is nice dinning experience, with pleasant staff. If your not drinkers expect to be through your meal very quickly. Which does have the benefit of allowing you to stop for something to eat on the way home. It’s pricey and the portion size is more appropriate to a five course fine dinning experience. But for what is a basic pub menu not appropriate.

We noticed other diners sending some meals back and also having to order extra portions and more bread to make up for the portion size.

We will not go back.

Having visited The Crown in 2017 and enjoyed their Emmerdale Farm steak we chose this venue before returning home after a week's holiday in Suffolk. Our dog was welcome and sat quietly under the table. The bar was empty, both behind and front of house. A barmaid appeared and we ordered Adnams knowing how good their beer is. We were given menus and walked back to our table waiting to order. No one seemed to be on permanent duty in the bar area. Our order was taken and starters took 20 mins to arrive. We waited 30 mins for the rare steak and belly pork to arrive. The meal was unexceptional and we won't be going back next year.

Room Tip: Did not use accommodation.

We had heard good reports of the Crown and were not disappointed. Loved the interior and the waiting staff were faultless, as was the food. We chose fish, which was perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend a visit.

We booked table yesterday for our cousin from Australia & our family
Waited over 25 minutes for food then I myself ordered BBQ pork wrap with French fries & salad .(what happened to home made chips)
The chips out of a packet & the salad was in total three very small lettuce leaves with little dressing no tomatoes no cucumber
We have been eating here for many years would always give five star .
