Coromandel Seaview Motel Style B&B
Ranked #8 of 14 Coromandel B&B and Inns
Reviewed 31 March 2017

We booked our stay last-minute at the Coromandel Seaview Motel, (after stumbling on it by mistake when driving past Coromandel town), in our New Zealand road trip travels. We were pleasantly surprised by our one bedroom apartment, with kitchen, lanai, private bathroom within easy walking distance, and more than peak-a-boo views of two bays. The owners live on the property and are helpful. The motel feels more like a B&B with separate suites, not like a standard motel. This property is highly recommended and is well worth checking out. We ended up booking a second night as we liked it so well. Thank you from the Vacation Couple from Temecula, California.

We booked here knowing it was the other side of the peninsula from whitianga where hot water beach and cathedral cove is, so we knew it'd be a drive to most places.

It was a drive along the coastal road which felt like it'd never end and then is about ten mins drive out of the coromandel town centre. It's probably a twenty minute walk from the town (not 5 mins as advertised). It is also up a steep hill. We didn't mind this at all as had no plans to walk but worth knowing.

We got greeted on arrival (fairly late but we rang in advance and let them know it'd be late evening). A really warm welcome and showed to our room. The room was really welcoming and comfortable, just what we needed for the end of our north island tour! Had everything we needed, comfortable bed, clean towels, lovely shower etc. We didn't order breakfast at all, but there was a fridge and kettle so we sorted little snacks out for ourselves.

Morning came and we were blown away by the views from the honeymoon suite. Had a balcony and a BBQ and so utilised that one eve. Amazing views!! We also made use of the jacuzzi spa overlooking the views one eve too. This place really is all about location and serenity!

Some negative comments on here have been about the wifi- it's true- it's not the best so we gave up and used our data instead. This could be sorted out.

We also thought one thing that could have been better was on the 2nd day we had our room tea/coffee/sugar topped up but bed wasn't made (although I'd made it up a bit myself!) and our towels weren't changed. The welcome book said every 2nd day the room was serviced so we would have liked fresh towels and the bed done nicely.

I would really recommend staying here if you want amazing views, secluded comfort and a chilled stay. Just be prepared for being slightly out of town and having rubbish wifi, and having quite a crazy road drive to hot water beach/cathedral cove etc. Fun roads, but quite tiring, either winding over the mountains or through them!

We opted last minute to stay overnight in Coromandel and stumbled upon this place due to a signpost in the road. We drove up to the top of the hill and were delighted to find this B&B with breathtaking views of the water. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and had all the amenities we needed - tea, coffee, hot chocolate, a fridge, kettle and toaster. The private deck with BBQ overlooking the water was just perfect. Even the robes in the bathroom were a really nice touch. The shower was hot and great water pressure. The room was quiet and peaceful. We were charmed by Gail upon our arrival and she made our stay easy and convenient. We will definitely be back and would recommend it to others!

The motel was right up the hill, but we were still slightly disappointed with the view (was expecting alittle more...). We were on the ground floor and there was an option to bbq but we did not use it. Overall the room was comfy.
The motel was quite a distance away from the main town but we drove so it was still alright. wifi totally lost... very weak & then later not responding at all...

The best thing about Why Worry Motel was the view. Absolutely beautiful - but the view alone does not solicit paying $190 per night for a family suite.

We were skeptical of Why Worry Motel as soon as we arrived in Coromandel. Advertised as “conveniently located”, it is a decent drive out of town and up a very steep hill. The reception area (in the garage) was hard to find.

We were promised “self-contained”, but there was no stove, and the outdoor barbecue took some time to set up (though Gail was very helpful with this). There was also broken cutlery and the sponge in the sink looked like it hadn’t been replaced in three years.

The icing on the cake for our memorable stay happened when we found out there was an outdoor bathroom (the average temperature for our stay was about 2 degrees Celsius at night. On this topic, we were only given one heater for the four room suite). We were told there were two plush bathrobes hanging on the back of the master bedroom door for us to wear while going outside to the bathroom. Upon putting one on, I discovered there was A PAIR OF UNDERPANTS FROM A PREVIOUS OCCUPANT OF THE ROOM in one of the pockets. Clearly Gail and Deb do not clean the rooms thoroughly after each stay, as there is also dust everywhere and the previously mentioned old dish sponge. In the bathroom, which did not lock, we also had to search the drawers for a small cake of soap and they only left us with about 1/8 of a roll of toilet paper for four adults for two nights, no replacements. The bathroom we used also had a washing machine and sink in it, which was supposed to be available to all four suites. In the unlocked bathroom, we all showered in fear of a stranger from another room coming in to use the washing machine while we were in there.
