“Awesome property, beautiful views, but a bit of a drive to get there”
Reviewed March 8, 2018 for a stay in February 2018

We stayed in the Mod glass house for two nights toward the end of a two week tour of New Zealand. It was myself, my wife, and 2 sons, 6 and 8. Part of the reason I booked was because I thought the boys would get a kick out of staying in the caravans.
The good - the house and property are beautiful with great views. We had coffee on the back porch every morning, and walked down to the beach with the kids a couple of different times. No issues with the directions, access, or amenities. The boys ended up not sleeping in the caravan, but instead played in and around them as their clubhouses and had a great time.
The bad (and partially my fault) - make sure you understand where the property is before you book. When google says it’s 45 minutes from Coromandel, believe it. Unfortunately, we got to Coromandel in the evening and stayed for dinner. It started raining and was dark and windy by the time we headed over. The road from Coromandel is very steep, winding, and tricky, even in daytime (we drove it in daylight another 4 times). This night, however, it was pitch black, rainy, and windy - not good for my wife’s nerves. To make it even worse, about 3/4 of the way up the mountain it decided to get FOGGY. Needless to say I slowed way down and we white knuckled our way over. Not so fun, but funny (to me) in retrospect. Grant’s directions were perfect, but if you can’t see the landmarks, it makes it tough, heheh.
Overall, the property is fantastic, assuming you understand the drive there and have provisions. Perfect overlook on the bay with all the necessary conveniences. Fantastic once we got there ;)

Congratulations Micheal for conquering the mountain drive in the dark in such atrocious conditions. Yes its hard first time on a fine day, so can appreciate your white knuckle ride. Thanks for a great informative review and we are now advising all guests to try to make the first trip in daylight hours.

“Views to die for”
Reviewed November 8, 2017 for a stay in October 2017

The house is amazing. As attested to in the coffee table books that feature it. The house was comfortable and well equipped. Grant was so easy to deal with. We walked the beaches. Did some hikes. Cooked local lamb and fish. There is nothing not to like

“A world away ...... and beautiful”
Reviewed September 25, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This beautiful ,eye catching, unique, and very comfortable home is delightfully shared by the owners.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay here. We were constantly entertained with the views continually changing with sunshine, cloud and rain. The remoteness on the peninsula adds to the whole experience. Staying in this accomodation was a absolute highlight of our holiday.
The advice and information provided by Grant (owner) was spot on and extremely helpful.

Liked best: The glass house is a beautiful experience matched with uninterrupted views
Liked least: We were very happy & grateful to have a downstairs WC. Top one too open for us.

Thanks for the fabulous review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We don't always meet our guests and it was a pleasure to meet you two. You cared for our house so well and arranged the bed pillows better than we did. We now do them your way. Welcome back anytime. Cheers g&c

“This glass house ticks every box imagineable”
Reviewed April 16, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

The Split Box provides a bird's eye view of densely forested mountains, rugged cliffs edging island clad bays and sunrises over sometimes calm sometimes stormy seas; all this viewed from absolutely every room in the house. So whether we were cooking dinner, sipping wine on the deck, waking up in the loft bed or soaking in the bath there was an ever changing glorious vista to enthrall us. The drive there is an adventure climbing over the mountains and down the other side but so worth it. The directions provided by Grant were exact and easy to follow.
