Property is beginning to show its age, the owners are friendly, but some things need to be changed , like the water boiling jug which is badly stained and aged
otherwise, good value for money, and the housekeeping ladies are awesome

Barringtons is located about 2 km from Whakatane town centre, on the main road out of town towards Tauranga. However, traffic noise was not a problem in our unit. Free wifi broadband is available in each room, and breakfast delivered to your room is available at extra cost.

Our unit had a spacious living/dining/kitchen area, with separate bedroom and ensuite bath/shower room. The unit was very clean and tastefully decorated. The kitchenette was well equipped with microwave, fridge and 2-ring hot-plate, as well as kettle and toaster. There were two divan beds in the living area, together with a sofa-bed, giving the unit a total sleeping capacity of 6.

The only negative about our unit was that it was excessively hot. The unit had no air conditioning, and we had to leave the front-door and all the windows open until we went to bed in order to cool it down, even though the daytime temperature was only 21 deg C. This may be a significant issue in hotter weather.

The motel staff were very friendly and helpful to us, giving us helpful advice on the location of supermarkets and the best sights in the area. I did witness an argument with another guest who was being charged extra for their baby as a third guest sharing the unit. There was a dispute about whether the guest had declared this at the time of booking. The owner insisted that the guest pay the extra, and the guest clearly felt aggrieved, although I cannot comment on the rights and wrongs of the matter.

Yep a great Motel type stop with lots of room and very clean. Just out of town centre and really good value. Lots to do round this spot and Barringtons is a good base.

I stayed at Barringtons for a couple of nights whilst on business in Whakatane. This was my first visit to New Zealand, and being that I only had 2 days there, I can say that I am thrilled it was in Whakatane at Barringtons.

Tom and Esther who own and run Barringtons are amazing, and were always friendly, extremely helpful and very thoughtful. I should mention that they make a great breakfast too! Although Barringtons is not far from the main part of town with all the shops and restaurants, they would always insist on driving us. Tom even took us to Ohope beach, and stopped on the way so I could take some scenic photographs. They really are great, and went out of their way to make sure our stay was brilliant.

I spent my day off from work going to White Island, which is an amazing very active volcano 50km off the coast of NZ from Whakatane. It is definately worth visiting.

I can't wait to go back to NZ for a holiday, and will definately stay at Barringtons again.

I recommend Barrigntons for all travellers: single backpackers, couples and families, old and young. Whakatane is a great town to stop over and see some great tourist attractions.
