“A character property set in the beautiful Tuscany village of Barga”
Reviewed August 26, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We rented the villa in July of 2015 for a family holiday. In truth we did not know what to expect but without question Barga and the surrounding area is simply beautiful.

The information pack supplied by the tour operator was extremely helpful for our stay and the directions given took us straight to our destination, although I have to say some early planning using Google Earth did familiarise us with some of the left and right turn leading us to the Villa which made it a lot easier

We arrived at the Villa in the late evening and were met by the local representative who was extremely helpful. It was difficult to see or appreciate the Villa when dark, but after a good nights sleep we woke up to a pleasant surprise. The Villa was of a great size and having rented it all my partner and I took the downstairs separate accommodation which gave us plenty of privacy from the younger members of the family. There was plenty of space for us to move around without feeling on top of each other.

The facilities were comfortable, although slightly tired but in the main this added to the character of the place, it was after all a Tuscany Villa. If you are looking for a Villa with all mod cons then this may not be the place for you, but having travelled extensively in Italy before, to have expected that, would have been expecting too much. There was everything needed for our holiday, a dishwasher, BBQ and Internet connection for the teenagers to maintain contact with their social media, peace and quiet, a plethora of lovely restaurants close by and the beautiful Tuscany scenery.

A hire care was an essential, both to get there and for the frequent visit to the supermarkets to stock up on bbq and other foods.

The grounds were extensive and the pool a joy to behold and it was there where we spent a lot of our time. We had expected hot weather but with a heatwave and temperatures of 36 degrees, it was a lovely place to cool down.

Barga itself was a 20 minute walk away and a delightful place to spend an evening, although we learned very quickly to book a table in certain restaurants simply because of their popularity.

There was plenty to do in the local area and we tried some Tuscany Cookery class and visits to Lucca & Florence, as well as enjoying the local area of Barga.

Like anywhere you go, the place had it's faults and we had our complaints but it was a great relaxing holiday.

The owners were close by and helped us resolve some minor problems, such as the router not working.

The overall experience was also enhanced by the company we booked through 'Tuscan Retreats' their service both prior to arriving and afterwards was impeccable and nothing was too much effort

“A PERFECT HOLIDAY RETREAT”
Reviewed September 24, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We rented the Villa Alva in Barga for a week's family holiday for ages ranging from 2 to 80. The Villa, setting and Barga far exceeded our expectations. It is furnished, equipped and maintained to an exceptionally high standard. The property, extensive grounds with wonderful swimming pool are secured by electronic gates. The property representative was very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly always available by telephone.
My only concern is the lack of fencing around the pool and the lack of warning of sudden increase in water depth in the centre of the pool. Our 7year old grand-son, who was learning to swim, was caught unaware and as a result his confidence was dented.
Private transport is essential.
The riding school, situated within short walking distance is an added attraction.
I would strongly recommend Villa Alva.
