We started four nights with Juliet and Matt at Sportsmans Lodge. It is well situated, near the main road so could hear lorries occasionally but not a problem.
The room was very clean and comfortable. A bit lacking in storage space for clothes, but ideal for a stop over. The shared kitchen and lounge were also brilliant and clean. Juliet was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

Unless you hate small rooms and small sinks, this is a great place to be in South Waikato. A lot cheaper than the 30mn-away Taupo, but that makes it 30 minutes closer to the Ski fields. Close to trout fishing places too and to a nice hot natural public pools in Turangi itself. Service is great and people are very friendly. They even moved our luggage to the new room we moved to without a fuzz. plenty of parking and it is a safe hotel. Town's centre is good enough for your normal shopping and fuel, but they close a bit early. But we traveled to Taupo in no time to enjoy food over there, then drove back. no big deal.

Room Tip: for $5 more you get a bigger room. The problem is this lodge is in high demand so you may not be able to chose.

So cozy, really makes you feel like home. I stayed at the cottage and it was everything I need after a long day of nature exploring. Clean, quiet, organized. Seeing my car parked just outside my drive way made me feel like I owned the place and the beautiful surroudings. I love New Zealand

Room Tip: The cottage was a little more expensive but totally worth it.

We just needed to spend one night in Turangi after doing the Alpine Crossing hike and we tried the Lodge. It was a short drive from the bus stop and as soon as we got there they were super friendly! After the hike we arrived back and they let us use their phone to order pizza to the room! The rooms are minimally stocked, don't expect 5 star accommodations. But that is not what we were there for. We just needed a place to stay and they provided that with excellent service. They had a full kitchen area and a lounge that all the residents could use. They let us check out late and told us about a VERY BEAUTIFUL trail that we could walk behind the lodge. It was right on the river and the views were spectacular. They said it was about a 45 minute hike, but it took us about 2 hours because we couldn't stop taking pictures. They even drove us to the bus stop after we finished our hike! Would definitely recommend even for longer trips. It seemed like they were stocked and prepared for fishermen as well, with a room to put your gaiters and gear. Awesome place

Stayed here for two nights (to do the Tongariro alpine crossing) and enjoyed our time here. The room was small but practical and the common kitchen area was very clean and well furnished for those who want to cook.

The owners booked the shuttle bus for us for the Tongariro and were very useful for local recommendations.
