“Not just for fishermen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

Although perfect for any keen fishermen or women this place is perfect for a quiet weekend retreat.
Lovely people, a beautiful peaceful setting, romantic riverside walks, a vineyard nearby and the paper delivered in the morning. Not to mention the BBQ to room ratio is rather generous. (and internet to help you plan your day trips). Clean, generous room sizes and the best value for money out of 5 places we stayed across the North Island. Not to mention our favourite of them all for all the above reasons.

It was exactly what we needed after the fumes and crowds of Rotorua and in perfect distance for our Tongariro adventures. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: executive rooms are only a few bucks extra and worth it. we were the closest to the road and it was...

My husband and I really enjoyed the quiet of this secluded 'motel'. Our spacious, one-bedroom unit was towards the back where there was a beautiful garden and access to walking trails along the river. We had our own private patio which was very nice with access to a large BBQ area. I would definitely recommend this place to others. The only drawback was the wireless access which was only accessible around the main office.

Coming from Montana, fly fishing was not new to us. We caught several good sized fish, even during the slow time. The walks were fantastic, the amenities were wonderful with delightful hosts. It is a river for experienced fly fishermen, unless you are there during heavy runs. Of the three months of traveling in NZ, this place was one of the highlights!

Room Tip: There is not a fitness center but the walking trails were fantastic to town and the trout center.

It is a wonderful peaceful position which the owners are very keen to maintain. The rooms are well equipped set in a mature garden in a near woodland setting.

I stayed at the Lodge for four nights. I found the lodge to be great value for money and well located for a lot of the fishing in the area.

The complimentary tea, sugar, coffee and fresh milk in the room is a nice touch. You will need to bring shampoo and conditioner as amenities are only replaced every couple of days and there is no seperate conditioner. If you are a big group the small hotel sized soap bars may also not be enough. There is a place less than five minutes walk where one can get these supplies and in no way does this note detract from the stay.

The best lodge we saw in NZ, really nice garden, best river walks with truits all around. Newspaper given each morning, nice BBQ facilities...Great guests. Really quiet, nice terrace with a little table. Surrounded by great oak trees and all NZ birds...The Tui bird is there at sunrise and sunset, also it was a great place to cook ourselves, great kitchen ! The best place to have the best sleeping night in NZ I promise !Towels heated to dry out,a big TV..What else?Do not smoke inside in any house in NZ (we did not know...) and that's fine!Prices are very honests, it could have been more expensive!Brice et Monica from New Caledonia, we loved this place!
