Well my search for the finest Eggs Benedict in NZ continued this morning with breakfast at the Cherry Cafe in Gulf Harbour.
It’s in a stunning location, you have views of the canals and with both outdoor and indoor options it caters for everyone.
Lots of great kiwi breakfast options, but mine was of course the Eggs Benedict and it was pretty damn good. At $17.50 with Salmon it’s about average in terms of price, I also added a side of mushrooms because mushrooms are awesome. In terms of serving size, two slices of Turkish Toast, two eggs and plenty of salmon, spinach and hollandaise sauce make up a really good sized plate.
Off the bat, the Turkish Toast is an inspired decision, it is not as fluffy as the muffins and has a bit more of a crunch and olive oil which gives the dish a really nice Mediterranean flavour. The eggs are the most perfectly cooked eggs that I have had, cooked through but as soon as you cut into them the yolk oozes out the give the dish that richness that we love.
Cherry Cafe have outdone themselves with their version and as long as we are near Gulf Harbour this will be where I go to enjoy a breakfast like this one. Well done Cherry Cafe, I look forward to my next visit.
