“Great Family Get together”

Sister-in-law booked and organised the weekend and didn't appear to have any difficulty.
Liked that all bedding supplied and we only had to take bathroom towels and tea towels.
Awesome place for a extended family or friends get together.
Large spaces both inside and out.
Well equipped kitchen. Including the pizza oven outside.
BBQ was very dirty and required a solid clean before use and gas was low. But we managed.
Both log burners kept going so house very warm with plenty of extra bedding if needed.
Out door activities fun for the family of all ages.
Indoor games - board games were well used.
My only down would be to recommend no wifi available in the house so the use of all games maximized.
Would certainly recommend if you want to get away from it all. Beautiful area. Very quiet.

“Action packed adventure for the kids”
Reviewed July 27, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We’ve been finding it increasingly difficult to find ways to keep our 11 year old daughter occupied during school holidays. Staying at home with her older brothers has become “soooo boring”, now that electronics rule their teenage existence, but she feels too old to go to traditional school holiday programmes.

These winter holidays Ash ran an adventure camp for 8-12 year olds in the Waiohine Gorge. Despite some pretty rotten, wet, cold winter weather, during her time there our daughter made new friends, tried new activities, enjoyed bushwalks, learned new games (she’s still amused that you can combine hockey and soccer successfully) and was generally kept so busy she came home tired, happy and relaxed. Her favourite activities were traversing a body of water using ropes, harnesses and pulleys, bushwalking at the swingbridge, exploring Thrive’s property, and making a “wicked” caramel sauce for the dessert pizzas.

When we went out to do the pick up we were impressed with how well Ash and his team handled the diverse group of children in their care. They had the kids balancing responsibilities (yes - they helped with cooking and cleaning and had to write up a diary of their day in the evenings) with getting out and engaging with their environment and learning some great survival skills (generally having a rollicking good time). Even when the weather drove them indoors activities had been planned to keep everyone fully occupied. The children were all happy, and fully engaged.

Although I can see that this style of camp would be a perverse form of torture for children who hate getting their hands dirty or physical activities, for every other kid I would recommend the Thrive Adventure Centre camp as a fun, safe way to get out and have some some good old fashioned adventures.

“Less Screen, more Green!”
Reviewed July 27, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

My daughter recently attended the Kids Camp at Thrive during the school holidays and I can't rate Thrive enough. It was wonderful that she could just enjoy being a 'kiwi kid' without screens and technology. She made new friends, found new hobbies and had lots of new experiences. Ash was organised, attentive and knew what the kids needed to make the most out of their stay. I can't wait until the next one so I can send my son as well!

“Our new home away from home”
Reviewed July 25, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I can not fault this experience - well, apart from Mother Nature. But even she didn't manage to dampen our spirit. Trying to please 14 people didn't seem possible, but Thrive did this in spades. The photos don't manage to do it justice - this isn't your typical shelled out mass accommodation but feels like your own home - the board games and books were a great touch too. There wasn't anything we needed we couldn't find. Ash, you've thought of everything and you made us want to move in permanently. Thanks so much for making us feel so welcome and looked after. We will see you again in the summer where we can finally make the most of all the outdoor amenities.

“Wonderful place for relaxing team event”
Reviewed July 8, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We hired the Thrive property for a small team offsite event and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Ash, the owner, was quick with his communication, accommodating of our requests and helpful when we were onsite. We wanted somewhere peaceful, relaxing and homely. Thrive ticked all those boxes. The large, well equipped kitchen allowed us to self cater easily, the media room was great for presentations, the large lounge for casual sessions and the good sized dining table allowed us to get the 9 of us around it. The beautiful location instantly relaxed us and the team really enjoyed using the fire pit in the evening. Well worth heading to the end of the road to walk over the large swing bridge and look at the gorge too.

“Excellent country getaway in a beautiful location”
Reviewed October 17, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Having a weekend in the Wairarapa is great and it's lovely to stay over the Waiohine gorge side. The Thrive accommodation is a retreat away from it all. We loved it! The sweeping, tree-lined drive way welcomed us and parking was super easy. It's a high quality, rural lifestyle house with some very healthy chickens and ducks roaming around. We were a group of singles and couples and the set up and choice of rooms worked well but you don't need to be a big group to stay - I can see me and my husband coming back just on our own. The kitchen and lounge area was spacious so we could all cook and eat dinner together. We enjoyed sitting out while the last of the sun hit the deck but unfortunately the rain came just as we thought of toasting marshmallows at the fire pit! Some people ventured down the track to spot glowworms at night, though. As a group of outdoor enthusiasts we had all been running and needed lots of showers - it's so nice when there is plenty of hot water and the bathrooms are all top notch. Will definitely book again.
