Was at a wedding at this hotel and spent a weekend there. The hotel is nice by itself, however the hotel staff are a bunch of blind rats that don't have a clue on how to run a hotel! Luckily, the wedding was all coordinated by 3rd party companies and the hotel had no role besides providing accommodation. After the wedding we had 2 more days at the hotel to relax.

We stayed in the deluxe suite no 12 and it was nice, however expensive. There was a jacuzzi in the bathroom that was great and the bed was comfortable. That's about the only good points I have about this hotel.

Reception is awful. They don't want to help and was very rude. The restaurant was the worst, besides not having half the menu available, there was a 2-3 hour wait for a spaghetti!?? Same for a simple hamburger.

The hotel owner is Spanish, I won't say his name here, but be aware when you meet him. He spends his days drinking from the early mornings until late. At night he may show up in his underwear drunk as a skunk and try to be "funny". Not so charming with small children around. Also, my wife went to bed around 10pm and he turned on some pop music really loud right outside our room on a Monday? That's when it became too much and I had to let him know he needed to go somewhere else. The next day, when ordering a plate of fries, after waiting over 2 hours, I asked him if he could get his kitchen in order. He then asked me if I worked at the restaurant??!! After I told him no, he then made me aware I had no business of complaining if I didn't know how to run a restaurant and told me to go f### myself. That was the last straw and we left the hotel!

The swimming pool, as many others here have also commented, is filthy and is almost greenish/white with algae and sun lotion. Never saw it cleaned.

Such a shame, because the hotel is really nice by itself. If they had only changed the entire staff, including the owner, and put someone who is serious and professional in charge, this could be a real gem.

I'll never be back and I don't recommend anybody to stay here because despite the nice photos,
the staff ruins the entire experience.

We were a bit sort of stranded in Cumbuco and found our way to this nice little place through the help of a friendly "dutch local".
It is a very nice place indeed, located right next to the beach. People are friendly, rooms are spacious and the place is clean and well kept.
We didn't like the breakfast though and the restaurant doesn't serve much. A bit of extra attention to that and (a few other minor details) would make this a great place to stay.
But then again, we had a great time! The place has that "small & cozy" quality about it. So yes, we would recommend the place.

We stayed in Itaca Hotel from 11-14th Nov 2011. We enjoyed because we shut eyes for several minor details which if taken care of could elevate this hotel to be the best in Cumbuco.
I’m a little bit different reviewer and instead of saying praises and giving 5 stars and saying I stayed in the best in town, I’d rather to point problems so you might guess you’d do the same and consider your holiday a success in spite of these details.

Room: Suite 18
Price: R$280/day
Other top suites: R$295/day

Room:
It’s very big and up to two couples and a single. We stayed in the suite while our son was in the main room in a single bed. Room has two small 24 inches flat screen TVs (mean due room cost?); couple’s bed is indeed two single mattresses together, although comfortable; suite’s bathroom to be shared with those hosted in the main room; all furniture made of dark wood and light spots are undersized leaving the feeling it’s too dark; suite’s air conditioning is better than a lighthouse, so its led display was the worst problem in room; last there was no blackout curtain in the main room so my son woke up 6AM with sun light. There is also something like a small kitchen, table, walls are indeed truck windows.

Common area:
In common area you will have a Jacuzzi, swimming pool for babies, teens and adults, a lot of green bushes and trees. Even though completely taken, the hotel left us feeling we were alone for the weekend in the common area. A comprehensive gymnastics area is available right beside the kitesurf support area. Other common area has pool table, small TV set and sofas.
There is a massage room and it’s cheap comparing to places elsewhere.

Bar and restaurant:
Hotel’s bar is close to access to the beach. It supports not only Hotel common area and rooms but also the area in front of the Hotel next to the sand beach.
Drinks are well prepared, but keep it to basics (i.e. caipiroska) and you will not miss it.
Snacks took a while to be ready and served.
Waiters are too concerned to the area by the beach forgetting to attend to inner common area and for several times I had to take my demand or drink from pool side to the counter. If you didn’t understand right, those non host using the Hotel’s beach infrastructure are preferred than you.
To make matters worse, several non host people were allowed to use Hotel’s inner infrastructure including pool! Next time I’ll save staying on a smaller hotel or pousada and going to Itaca to have fun with the same rights of those paying more!!!!
Main meals are available and at that time we had Pargo ao molho de Camarão (Fish with shrimps) and it was recommendable. It was served in Itaca’s restaurant section which is the one also serving breakfast.

Utilities:
Wifi was problematic and 20% of the time was offline.
By the end of the two days lack of water happened because the pump was off and took a while to fill the water tank and then supplying rooms. I lost patience the first day and went to take a shower by the pool shower.

Kitesurf:
There is a small kite support infrastructure in this hotel, but nobody to help you. Hotel’s air compressor was broken so I had to ask a kite pump to those surfers who remembered to carry one.
I believe it was a great spot to kitesurf because conditions were great, the hotel is by the beach and there is no crowd to battle for space while surfing. Just take a look to Icarai side or Cumbuco’s downtown beach side and you will understand.

We had a great time there despite problems and relaxed a lot. We’d like somebody would pay attention to those details above and for sure Itaca Hotel would be the best in Cumbuco soon.
