Very warm welcome .Nice room,.pleasant staff.Very nice breakfast. Under going refurbishment but this did not effect our stay, we were informed this will be completed shortly. We would stay again if in the area,
Evening meals only served Monday to Thursday and not enough selection on menu. Thai restaurant White Lion and Dragon a few minutes up the road very good and better priced than the hotel

Room tip: Rooms at rear best, away from near by road all rooms had double glazingh

We booked two rooms at the Asperion Hillside Hotel as it was very close to Merrist Wood Equestrian Centre where our horse was competing. All staff were very welcoming and the rooms were warm and cosy and had been recently been decorated. The shower over the bath had extremely low pressure which was disappointing. We had an evening meal which we all enjoyed and couldn't fault and again the breakfast was first class. Unfortunately renovation work was being carried out and we had a knock on our door in the morning from one of the builders to see if the room was empty :( We also had the room cleaners open the door and come in without knocking first. I'm sure if both had checked with reception first they would have realised we had not checked out. We have stayed here before and will book again but will make sure there is no building work in progress.

Dear Teressa,

Thank you for your review, although pleased overall you had a nice stay with a fantastic dinner and breakfast please accept our apologies in regards to the water pressure and the builders knocking on your door.

My hope is they were so disappointed to leave you with a poor shower they were en route to fix it!

As you can see from the other reviews the showers are now working perfectly and the builders have departed so next time you stay with us things should be perfect again.

See you soon,

Daniel & The Hillside Team

The guesthouse was easy to find, staff were helpful, the building is being redecorated so there was a bit of a paint smell, but whats been done so far looks good !

The car park is a little tight, but i was fairly early to arrive so it was ok. Nice clean room, bathroom was fine, even a bottle of water, which is always nice.

I didnt eat at the returant, it looked nice and the food smelled good, but it was a bit out of my price range, so i got a thai takeaway from the pub down the road !

I would happily reccomend this place, and would stay there again.

We stayed one night at the Hillside as we wanted to visit a few places in the Guildford area over a weekend. As a B&B it's fine. We had a good sized room that was very comfortable and with one of the best spec'd TVs we'd come across when staying away from home. The breakfast was also fine and served in a very smart dining room.

However, do not fall for the "Luxury Guest House" tag and the AA 4 Star rating, the Hillside does not fall in to this category. The furniture in our room was all tired and needed replacing, the carpet was heavily stained and the shower room looked like it had been transported from your granny's house - horrible dated cracked lino, peeling silicone around the shower tray and traces of scrubbed mould and mildew.

The public areas are very smart and modern, but the service is far from luxury too. When we arrived the Receptionist hardly said a word and then showed us to our room. There was no welcome pack, so we had to go back and ask about breakfast, Wi-Fi etc.

We'd happily stay there again as we had a good nights sleep and there is an excellent pub with a Thai restaurant within five minutes walk.

Dear Ian,

Thank you for your review, we are pleased to hear you had a nice stay and would want to return.

I agree with you that the Hotel needs updating and we are about to commence a full refurbishment which will take care of all these areas with completely new bathrooms and carpets etc. The TV's and restaurant you spoke so highly or are the beginning of the changes so I think you will like what we have planned.

I am very disappointed to hear your check in was not to standard, usually when we welcome new guests to the Hotel we share all of this information on the show round of the property and when taking you to your room, we like the personal approach as opposed to writing everything in a book and expecting you to read it.

I will pick this up with the Receptionist as personal service is what usually really sets us apart.

Kind Regards,

Daniel & The Hillside Team

A warm welcome, a great value room and good quality nearby pubs made a lovely 'date night' for us.

Positives: A lovely breakfast was included, the honesty bar was instantly relaxing to be in, two good pubs in walking distance (the thai food at the white lyon was great, but service was slow), a comfortable bed. I noticed someone take breakfast back to their room for their partner - so the place was quite amenable to requests.

Negatives: the bathroom was a bit tired, but clean. Judging by some of the other modernisation efforts (e.g. the honesty bar) I expect they will be refreshed at some point with good taste.

Room tip: Rooms at the back overlook a lovely garden
