I have just returned from a fabulous 'hen' weekend at Hagg Hill Hall. The house is truly amazing, a Grade 2 listed Manor House, full to the brim with antique and quirky furnishings. Many of the bedrooms have stunning four poster beds with en suite facilities. The lovely owner, Lord Mel Humphries took the time to show us around his wonderful home and was available when asked to provide the history of the house and gardens. He clearly has put a lot of love and care into restoring the hall to the superb home it is today. There is also hot tub and a large, fantastic indoor pool for guests to enjoy, not to mention pool table and huge boat for both small and 'big kids'!
I booked this house for my sister's hen party weekend for 16 people; we were not disappointed. It is an absolutely beautiful old house with lovely views. Lord Humphreys (the owner) was very friendly and really looked after us. He gave us a tour once we'd arrived and then on our last night came around and lit a fire for us. There were plenty of towels and also little bottles of free water/wine in all the rooms!!
The house is filled with gorgeous furniture - from memory I think most bedrooms had a four poster and its own ensuite (which is great for a big group). The dining room was very grand - laid out with silverware and candles (which we used for our private chef dining experience), and the conservatory was beautiful with hanging flowers (perfect for our mad hatter tea party). Everyone loved the pool and hot tub. I think everyone left happy!

This house is beautiful, full of history and character. Each room is full of antiques, nearly every bedroom has a grand four poster bed, roll top bath and lovely views. Great for a big group of girls as there are lots of bathrooms, a few en suites with both baths and showers. The pool and hot tub were lovely and warm and one of the highlights of the house.
Mel the owner is very hospitable and passionate about the property which really shows in the short tour he gave us. He was very relaxed about what we were up to in the house, we had a party til the early hours one night and a professional chef in the (very!) grand dining room the second night and Mel was happy for both to happen. The kitchen was well equipped and when we asked about the wifi it was fixed within the hour.
Though we went for a hen party, the house would be absolutely amazing at Christmas or New Year, would also be great for kids. Would highly recommend to anyone.
We could see from the details that our Son sent us that we were in for a truly majestic stay.
We arrived on our 50th Wedding Anniversary, Friday 2nd October 2015. We were the first to arrive out of 17 family members. We were greeted, at the door, by the owner, Lord Humphreys who showed us around his magnificent house. You need to look up 'Hagg Hill Hall' in Derbyshire to appreciate all the terrific facilities such as four poster beds, en suites, kitchen facilities, sitting rooms (plural), oak beams, candelabras, silver cutlery, large televisions, hot tube (up to 7 people), personal towels everywhere, BBQ, big garden play boat, welcoming wine, in each bedroom ! Lord Humphreys (call me Mel) craftily saved the 'Piece de Resistance' until last - the truly magnificent dining room. Downtown Abbey eat your heart out! As it was OUR day I insisted that on our anniversary (2nd Oct) we all wear dinner jackets and gowns. We had everything except Carson the butler! The indoor swimming pool was the largest and best house pool I have ever come across (40ftx20ft). On the Saturday night (3rd Oct) we dined in the luxurious garden dining room (up to 20 people) and had fairy lights and candles (casual dress, this time)! In summing up - I was gobsmacked! I had never stayed in such a truly magnificent country house in my life. Unfortunately there was already a Lord there - otherwise I would have happily played the Lord of the Manor - especially as I was at the head of the big dinner table!
What an absolute crazy awesome weekend the girls have done me proud , the grounds were beautiful would stay there again, Mel the owner was brilliant too , everything you would need, an if the sun was out you wouldn't know you you weren't abroad I loved it from start too finish thank you, the hot tub was a great way to chill an unwind 10/ 10 from me
From the moment we arrived, Mel was brilliant. He welcomed us and showed us all around his beautiful home. Nothing was too much trouble.
It's the perfect place to hold a hen, the facilities are amazing and the dining room is something else.
Our whole experience was amazing. We would love to return .... Maybe for a big new year!

My family met up with three other families whom we had not seen in sometime for a reunion at Hagg Hill. We all had fairly young children and the house was ideally set up for us - there were two family rooms that sleep 4, plus a number of other rooms so we felt we all had our own space, as well as two communal sitting rooms and a lovely kitchen which became the hub of our stay. We had at least 3 swims a day in the pool, plus 'hot tub' bath time. A newly installed full size play boat in the back garden entertained the children when outside the pool and there was lots of space to explore.
Mr Humphries was most welcoming and accommodating, particularly as some of the children were not keen on the dogs belonging to himself and the farm next door; he immediately built a fence to stop the animals from entering the backyard area which put both the children and their mums minds at rest.
Hagg Hill would have gained a five star rating from us, had it not been from some minor issues regarding rooms not shutting without having to be locked, some faulty chairs about to fall apart in the garden room and the lack of space for our own food supplies in the kitchen.
All in all we had a super time at Hagg Hill and are already planning our return at our next reunion in a few years.
