Gloria is well located for those wanting to keep away from traffic but still have everything accessible. I needed to have access to the city centre as well as to the new university campus and this was a great option.
Xuzhou isn't going to have much going for it with regards to Expat hang-outs - seems the Hill Bar is now closed permanently - but Gloria is right next to some pretty descent restaurants. Just walk out of the front door of the resort and turn right and walk for about 100m. Blue Marlin is ok but still pretty kitsch.
Best bits of the hotel: Nice rooms overlooking a man-made lake. Good room design. Friendly staff. Great location with great proximity to walking tracks in beautiful gardens.
Not so good bits: Smoking is everywhere although staff did try to disuade patrons to move outside (typical for 3rd tier city though), weekends can be manic during 'wedding season' with firecrackers going off all day Saturday and Sunday.More
