Taylor's at Geraldine was the wild card in our tour of South Island and boy did it deliver! The house is located just outside Geraldine, nestled on the brow of a hill with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Richard and Elaine have spared no expense in creating a hosted 5-star experience. They've thought of everything - from the bottle of bubbly in the fridge, chocolates (from the Chocolate Shop in Geraldine - a must try!) homemade cookies, luxury bathrobes and the most wonderful deep pile carpet. But the real wow factor is the bathroom. The raised bath is perfectly positioned to enjoy the views of the mountains and the underfloor heating is another nice touch. We hadn't booked an evening meal but Richard and Elaine rustled up a great home-cooked dinner for NZ$50 per head (including great wine). The breakfast the next morning was one of the best we had on our trip - and that's high praise indeed! I can wholly recommend Taylor's for a unique mix of contemporary luxury and old-school charismatic hosting. It's a little off the beaten track but worth taking the detour for.
