We had intended staying in Methven in our campervan, but we decided to call in after seeing their roadside sign. We felt like something different to the side-by-side stacked in campervan caravan park stopover.
We were only going to stay one night and ski Mt Hutt, but it was so easy and relaxing and comfortable we ended up staying for 4 days. It's only a 10 minute drive to town for the best coffee and Eggs Benedict at Primo. Fantastic skiing at Mt Hutt - so much less busy than Coronet Peak and the Remarkables - you can ski straight onto a lift chair without having to queue!!!
Mike and Helen were really friendly hosts, they couldn't do enough for us. We were totally self-catering but they still invited us in for tea and coffee and Helen's terrific biscuits, and a glass or two of wine after dinner, and yummy winter puddings! Mike took us on a tour of their beautiful farm to see the cattle and sheep. They have the most incredible views across their green pastures right up to the mountain. Helen gave us lots of sight-seeing tips and maps. It is a beautiful part of NZ and it was a relaxing last couple of days' rest before we flew out of Christchurch (about 100km away) Hey Bella and Joe!

Mike and Helen are such wonderful host that made our two-night stay at their Glenview Farm memorable. We arrived in the afternoon and had their home cooked dinner. The lamb was nice and the apple pie was soooo good. Oh, not to forget the delicious cookie Helen baked for us to take along for our Tranzalpine train ride the next day. We totally enjoyed the after-dinner chat, with the fire place just neaby, and the company of the ever-energetic Bella and the "King of the Roast", Mr Jojo.

Mike was so nice to bring us along with him around the farm as he herds his cattle and sheep, explaining to us how things work around here. We couldn't ask for more.

As for the accommodation, it was nice and cosy. Very homely. Oh, we go a beautiful view of their farm and Mount Hutt from our room.

For anyone who wants to hop up to Mount Hutt or experience a cattle and sheep farmstay, this is the place you have to make a stop for.

I was brought up on a farm so getting a chance to stay on a Kiwi one was something I was hoping for. I'm very glad we chose Glenview because it was just perfect. Mike and Helen are such wonderful hosts and we spent many happy hours chatting to them and learning about farming in NZ. Plus we had a great tour of the farmstead and wonderful meals cooked by Helen. I could have stayed a week. I would have asked for a job but Mike already had a lad helping him!

It's such a peaceful, lovely spot, comfortable and homely and rounded off our 6 weeks in NZ so well.

We arrived at Helen and Mike's place at about 5.15 in the afternoon to a warm welcome and a cup of tea. Before 6.00pm Mike had opened a bottle of very decent Pinot Noir to share before and with dinner. This level of hospitality continued for the three nights we shared with them on a large farm in the shadow of Mt Hutt. The accommodation was functional rather than luxurious but was comfortable and everthing worked. We left with hugs all round - a real example of the Kiwi motto 'arrive a stranger, leave a friend'. Highly recommended as long as you're not looking for 5 star luxury.

Greeeeeeen, snow capped mountains, warm hospitality....interesting (farm management etc). I could not recommend more highly! We were blessed with great weather after a fall of snow in summer... hence the views were special. Great hosts... very nice breakfast. So please we found this place.
