We returned from the Santorini Kastelli on 16th June and had two marvellous weeks in this excellent hotel. From the moment of arrival, the staff were superb at our reception and this was mirrored by the staff of the Lydia restaurant, the room service and maintenance people, a really warm and accommodating set of people that made our holiday. We upgraded to an executive room with private pool and it was truly fabulous, a total oasis of calm and tranquility. It is not usually our practice to return to the same resort, we normally try different countries / resorts with all of our holidays but will probably make an exception in this case as the hotel and staff are just magnificent. There are several pools within the complex although most people head for the main pool which is large enough to accommodate the guests, who also turned out to be very friendly during our stay. The hotel itself is approx 200M from the beach and en route there is a plethora of really nice restaurants and bars, most of which we will also be leaving reviews for. Highly recommended if you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Our first time in Kamari, the Kastelli Resort is a beautiful hotel! Set in a great location, 5 minute walk to the restaurants and the very lovely Kamari Beach. The staff are so friendly and very welcoming! We couldn’t of picked a more perfect hotel! A 15 minute drive brings you to Thira and a 30 minute drive to the stunning Oia. Highly recommended to visit both of these places! We will definitely be returning back to the Kastelli!

We came for a 10 day chill out as a couple. Santorini airport is as I understand it, due for some investment and really needs it. It’s not a particularly pleasant experience either on arriving or departure, with potentially long queues (out in the sun) on the way in and the way out.

I was planning on hiring a car for the entire trip, (organised through economy car rentals), but I had a dispute with the local car hire company (Goldcar) who were demanding I pay an extra €200 for insurance, even though the economy car rentals paperwork clearly stated that the price agreed included fully comprehensive insurance, or otherwise pay a refundable deposit of €2,000! So in the end I walked away.

I didn’t really miss the car, as at Kamari one can rent a car locally for around €40 per day, on an adhoc basis.

We picked the right week if you like it hot, as it was wall to wall sunshine the whole trip. The Kastelli resort is a 10 minute drive from the airport and is only a 2 minute walk to Kamari beach, restaurants and mini markets.

The resort is a well laid out gated complex of mainly 1 & 2 story pretty white rendered buildings. There are a number of small plunge pools dotted around, adjacent to the accommodations and a main pool overlooked by the alfresco dining area.

We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a superior room which had a rear terrace with chairs and sun loungers and a semi private pool (shared with 3 other rooms) as in the images below. We spent most mornings here in this sun trap.

The rooms have effective, quiet air conditioning, mini bar (fridge), and a quality electronic safe, easily large enough for my 13” Apple MacBook Air and an SLR with a few lenses (I’m a wedding photographer by trade and hate not being able to secure them away - so often don’t bother to take them with me on trips). One thing I would bring next time is the small cartons of UHT milk as supplied in UK hotels, as the milk here is (shall we say) an acquired taste..

The rooms are cleaned thoroughly and made up daily. There’s a small gym with a treadmill, recumbent cycle, and a few other apparatus along with a spa with all the usual therapies on offer. There is also a library, where you can deposit or pick up a book at your leisure. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The manager is often seen walking around, ensuring the guests are attended to - giving it the personal touch.

I think from memory the hotel generally only advertises a continental breakfast in the brochure, but there is also a small selection of cooked foods available at breakfast (fried / scrambled eggs, beans, sausages and bacon). The selection is perhaps slightly limited and I would like to see a few other options such as mushrooms and tomatoes, but you certainly wouldn’t go hungry. The staff are very attentive, keeping you topped up with coffee etc.

I like to run and swim and there is a nice flat 2-3 km circuit one can do from the hotel and generally the sea is pretty calm and boating lanes are clearly marked, so it’s safe to swim parallel to the beach for 1-2km. If swimming in the hot weather, wear flip flops down the the waters edge. I made the mistake of not doing so and regretted it - talk about HOT stones...
Grab a sun bed and all you need to do is order a drink when the guy comes around and the bed is yours for the day.

We did a boat trip (sunset tour) whilst here and would not recommend it. I intend to do a separate review of that trip, but basically be prepared for a long day with limited shade, a lot of walking on uneven ground and to be corralled like sheep to places where you need to get your wallet out.

If we came back to Santorini we would certainly return to this hotel and this area.

My husband and I chose this hotel as our base for our wedding/honeymoon while we were getting married in Santorini. We have to say we made some fantastic acquaintances in all of the staff and management while we were there who could absolutely not do enough for you, a special thanks to Katerina who even helped me to the car in my wedding dress, you were amazing!! We were well looked after and pampered for our special occasion and the small touches of arranging Greek papers with our wedding date and the gorgeous welcome back to our room as Mr and Mrs with a chilled bottle of Prosecco.. Very welcome after our ceremony and reception.. If we could rate this hotel a ten star? We would... You are all amazing amd we will be back to celebrate an anniversary very soon!! On site facilities of the spa and hair salon could not be faulted and the treatments are so reasonably priced with great results.. The housekeeping staff do an absolutely fantastic job and work tirelessly every day and we loved seeing their friendly smiling faces every day. We hope to see you all again very soon!!
