It has been a few years since we have stayed here. The rooms and their furnishings are showing their age and are in desperate need of a re-furb. Every lounge cushion we saw around the pool was filthy with stains, mildew and bird droppings which were not fresh!

On Sunday morning we called for a bucket of ice. There were no machines on the floor. It took ages for the person at the end of the guest relations line to answer the phone. He said he would get it to us straight away. Twenty minutes later, still no ice. Called again, similar wait for guest relations person to answer the phone. A further request made and then it was at least another ten minutes before the bucket of ice arrived. Our request was not a difficult one!

Service at the bar early on Saturday night was not good either. Five staff stood around the bar talking to each other as we sat waiting to order drinks. Ordered the same drink twice and totally different taste on each order. When we queried the waitress, she just shrugged and said it was the same drink.

Staff morale seemed low in all areas.

If you are not familiar with the area - the location is not good and you will need a car or taxi to get to any good restaurants, shops on the Gold Coast.

There are many new hotels at Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, which are located closer to Pacific Fair shopping centre, Jupiters Casino and many great restaurants. You are spoiled for choice and Versace is not a hotel we would stay at again anytime soon.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a lagoon view room - at least you';; have something to look at other than trash bins, alley ways and the road, which many of the rooms do face.

Dear nmclennan,

Thank you for providing feedback on your stay with us at Palazzo Versace.

You have every right to expect a first class experience while you are with us and it seems there are service and product issues that have impacted your stay. We apologise for any service delays and assure you that this is not indicative of our usual service excellence.

Recently we received our AAA Rating (the hotel industry standards report) that gave us a result of 95% for Hotel Quality and Condition. The style of our property is neo-classical and we are in constant soft refurbishment to ensure it delivers a luxury hotel environment. But with your comments, our management team will take a closer review of the areas mentioned to ensure they meet our guests expectations.

Regarding hotel location, many of our guests tell us actually they love being in Main Beach... preferring to be out of the hustle and bustle of Surfers Paradise. Marina Mirage which is next to our property has some of the best shopping and dining experiences on the gold coast. Everything you need for a holiday is here!

As a return guest I believe you have enjoyed your experiences in the past, so much so that you have returned to us. We would love to redesign your next stay so that your opinion of Palazzo Versace is completely turned around. Please contact me directly to discuss your concerns.

Best regards,

Nickie Warton

Went here on a two night get away. Overall it was an ok experience but we would not go again. A bit pretentious and overpriced for what you get. Location is also no ideal. Very pretty entrance and foyer. The spa and couples massage was very nice...but again it was a very expensive little get away. I guess that's what you expect with Versace though? Would not recommend to my friends.

Family of 5, stayed at the Palazzo Versace during the Melbourne Cup week. Entrance... exceptional! Greeting at front desk/ porter... exceptional! Service... exceptional! Rooms... exceptional! Food... exceptional!

One night, my 8 mth old decided to cut her 1st tooth! When my husband went downstairs to request the car (so he can go to the chemist to get Panadol for her fever), the porter asked my husband if everything was ok, as he looked a bit frazzled. My husband explained the situation and yes, they handed him a bottle of Panadol!

On another night, house-keeping forgot to put 1 pillow case on a pillow in our room. When I called requesting a pillow case, they manager came up and was very apologetic. House-kepper came up with chocolates and 3 Versace teddy's for each of my children! WOW! An apology would have been fine with us!

The only disappointment for me was that the retail shop didn't have variety in its products. Plenty of bags, ties, shoes. Not much variety in clothes and no homewares at all!

I have just returned from attending a conference at P V. I was reticent to stay there as I had always thought it tacky and a bit Ott.! Too much Bling and Botox.
I was pleasantly surprised. The service is the thing which makes the difference. The staff are very well trained but down to earth. Being a regular business traveller it drives me mad when, at breakfast you are asked to wait to be seated, then ignored, cause its only one person's job to seat you Here, anyone who spots you establishes eye contact and greets you. It's a great experience. Pool area is gorgeous, but really brisk in this weather. It would be nice to have easy access to the spa indoor pool but it's owned by a separate entity. Otherwise a pity there is no natural light in the conference room
Overall a great place for an indulgent break and for a conference.

Dear L J,

Thank you for taking time to write a review on your recent stay.

Many of our guests also tell us that they are 'suprised' upon their first encounter of Palazzo Versace... it is a complete brand experience and delivers not only the spirit of Versace but a glamorous yet tasteful setting.

Service excellence with a personable approach is what we aim to deliver so I've shared your comments with our team. It is important to us to get this right... a glamorous environment is nothing without service to match!

We have also noted your feedback on the spa and conference lighting/facilities and we will consider this for future hotel development.

Thank you again L J, we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

What a great hotel - was back again on the weekend for my third visit and this place really know how to make its guest feel special. Get a room with a lagoon view as all the other face the road or carpark or nothing and Im into rooms with a view so it seems a shame to stay at such a nice hotel and not have a view. Go across the road to the Sheraton if cost is an issue.
Bar is great - V I E restaurant is great with excellent food and wine
Ballroom is amazing.
Breakfast can be slow so go early or be patient

Room Tip: Lagoon View a must
