We have just returned from our 4th visit to this delightful small hotel. It is in a superb position overlooking the beach and the small town of Morro Jable with wonderful sea views from every spacious bedroom. However, what makes this hotel even more special is the people who work there - friendly, welcoming, caring and very professional.

A week here as a first trip to Fuerteventura. Friends had dubbed the resorts to the north of the island 'a bit "Kiss me quick" hats' so we opted to be based at the southern tip. This hotel looked a manageable size and was overhanging the spectacular beach, rather than set back behind the insensitively-developed restaurant strip like many of the others. Staff were relaxed and the service efficient yet warm & friendly throughout. Beds were comfortable; pillow menu options provided.

We'd booked half-board, and the buffets at both breakfast and dinner( two sittings: at 6 and 8 pm) were creative, generous, of good quality and varied ( different varieties of breakfast sausages every morning and real scrambled egg - rather than prepared from catering liquid egg - were a notch- up on many global brand hotels in this category). Freshly-grilled options every evening and an egg chef at breakfast were great. Desserts at dinner were the least-inspired offering: all, we guessed, bought-in, and they seemed to have been selected for appearance rather than flavour.

Most guests were German, mid-market empty-nesters/ retirees; a sprinkling of Brits in the same demographic groups. The hotel is well-designed to appeal to this cohort - everything very conventionally-neutral in colour, very well-maintained. Quiet, well- furnished pool area with outstanding views to the beach. The large, inside bar area though felt soul-less and attracted few revellers. Even on the evenings when live light-entertainment ( which played to a small handful of guests) was laid- on. The Elvis impersonator ( in German ) was, um, remarkable... Overall, the hotel was very comfortable, but, for us, lacked a certain distinctiveness and atmosphere.

Niggles : the free wifi was slow and erratic in our room, though good in the public areas. The arrival of deliveries (or the refuse lorry) at dawn would be an issue if you're a light sleeper and billeted to the west-end of the hotel. Wine list was limited to pretty basic offerings and the mark-up was substantial. If none of these matters to you, and you're looking to stay at the best, if a bit sedate, spot in Morro Jable, you'd be hard - pressed to do better than the XQ.

We chose this hotel because it was smaller than the massive one nearby. We had a double room which was immaculately clean with lovely views of the sea from the balcony where we sat watching the sun rise and sunset. We had bed and breakfast which was buffet style with plenty of choice and was excellent,, we did have dinner twice, again buffet style and again excellent. We found the staff helpful, friendly and professional they all made us so welcome. We spent a lot of time just lazing by the pool on the comfy sunbeds. The area was nice with good restaurants all within walking distance. Also a supermarket nearby to get drinks and water which we kept in our mini fridge. The beach was lovely and you could walk along it right to Jandia the next town. A brilliant holiday and we hope to go back next year.

Room Tip: All rooms had sea views.

I had a single room (No. 14) from 12-27 Jan. The hotel is immaculately clean, and I had a spacious bathroom, comfy beds (good linen and pillows), and a big sunny terrace overlooking the sea. There was a large sofa. The hotel has an incomparably good location, jutting directly over the Marine Parade, with a large sunning area equipped with loungers, which are wicker and feel like sprung beds; very nice!. There are free towels. There is lots of space for everyone to choose. The buffet breakfast and dinner are very good, with ample choices, always replenished, and offering quality dishes and fresh ingredients. The staff were all attentive, helpful, professional and spoke German and English. I was very comfortable here, and enjoyed my stay a lot. The brochures and photos give accurate impressions of the hotel. I would certainly recommend it, and come again. It is value for money.

The transport to and from the Airport was independent, but very simple to organise, and punctual to the minute (and cheap).

Room Tip: They are all the same size, sunny, and spacious. If you have a rented car, the Ground floor may be more convenient.

This hotel feels like it was here long before all the others, and is quietly still outclassing them. It’s relatively small size, location right on the beach in the heart of town, and friendly, helpful staff all make for a great experience.

We only stayed a couple of nights, but would happily have spent longer here. Wonderful ocean views, spacious room, nice warm swimming pool, and broad, sandy beach on your doorstep. The food in the restaurant was good but not spectacular. We felt that for a week of half-board it might have become a bit boring, but it was fresh and well presented, so that’s not really a complaint!
