“You get what you pay for.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2012

The HG Cristian Sur apartments are twinned with their sister apartments, the HG Tenerife Sur, which lie directly across a busy road. Guests at the Cristian Sur may use the facilities of the Tenerife Sur and just as well it has the only heated pool between both complexes.
When booking it is worth noting that you may be allocated an apartment in either complex but that the two bedroom apartments are all situated in the Cristian Sur and are all on the second floor (with no lifts).
At first sight our two bedroom apartment was clen, tidy, spacious and basic with the second bedroom situated upstairs and accessed via an open plan spiral staircase. Beware of this staircase as it is not suitable for the infirm or children. It is very narrow and is barely secured to the wall cuasing it to sway and move when being used.
Service at the Cristian Sur was pleasant enough and any minor complaints regarding the apartment were dealt with promptly.
Should you arrive and be allocated an apartment overlooking the main road ask for a move immediately unless you are partial to singing along with the patrons at the karaoke bars across the road every night - there is no soundproofing in the apartments at all.
As stated the complexes are advertised as having five pools three of which are heated - not so, the only heated pool (and it is barely heated) is at the Tenerife Sur complex. Plently of sunloungers and mattresses but few parasols leading to the ridiculous sight of people standing guard over parasols from 7.30am until the sunloungers are unchained at 9.00am - completely unbelieveable!!
The apartments are situated a 10-15 minute stroll to the resort centre and rather shabby looking harbour. Sadly the whole strip from Los Cristianos to Playas de las americas is an incongruous mix of fashionable stores and restaurants mixed in with strip clubs, pole dancing bars and very poor restaurants. It has a very seedy feeling.

In Summary:

Apartments - solid 2/3 star but don't expect sophistication.
The resort - needs a lot of TLC
Redeeming features - Margaritas restaurant (100 metres from the Cristian Sur) - quite superb service and food!!!
Siam Water Park - tremendous for all ages - would be hard to beat it for value for money

Room Tip: Avoid apartments overlooking the main road - too much noise from karaoke bars

Stayed for a week in early march. The hotel was basic but offered everything a couple could need on a week self catering.
Twin room, open plan living area with a kitchette that contains hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and plenty of cutlery and utensils.
The complex has 4pools (two heated) and two mini markets on site, providing most provisions.
There's bars and restaurants a short walk away in all directions & Los Cristianos beach is a 10min walk away with a bigger beach a few mins past that beach.
Weather was in the mid 20s so made the trip even better, would recommend to couples of any age & off season seemed like the best time, as there was plenty of people but not crowded

I have been to this complex on and off for over 10 years. It is slightly dated and in need a little make over but the rooms and complex is great. They have two pool, two supermarkets and one bar on site. The area is surrounded by amazing restaurants. It is only 20 minute walk to the beach front. The rooms are clean and spacious and most have great views of the mountains, sea or swimming pools. The staff are very helpful too. The apple pie from the supermarket next to reception which goes through the complex is just to die for!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a pool view which is quieter

Have stayed at Cristian Sur several times over the last 5 years and we love it. We initially came on a package tour but discovered that you could rent privately so that's what we do now as it's much more comfortable.

We like Cristian Sur for several reasons. Firstly, it's a nice quiet complex. (probably wouldn't suit everyone, but it's just fine for us). Secondly, there's a lovely laid back, relaxed atmosphere. Thirdly, although it's quite a large complex the layout makes it feel small and friendly.

There's a cafe/bar, supermarket and great deli on site which is really handy. Location is good too. It's only about a 10 min walk to the seafront and the nearest beach. Dozens of restaurants, cafe's and bars down there to suit all tastes and budgets. The old town and harbour is only about a 15 min walk away which has even more choice again. For us it means that it's easy enough to go out for a meal, drink etc but you're not stuck with music and noise if that's not your thing.

The pool in front of us was heated, and made it very popular with us and everyone else to go swimming. The other pools in the complex were cold,so this one was used all day.Good cafe/restaurant on site. Two shops/supermarkets,the one just behind us did not carry the range of the other shop, but it did sell fresh baked rolls, also FANTASTIC Sausage Rolls,LOVELY Meat and Chicken pies.OUT OF THIS WORLD Apple Pie and BLUEBERRY Pie,fabulous snack meals and VERY reasonably Priced.Very quiet Complex, lots of long stay visitors, very friendly complex, everyone says hello.Nice place to be.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor get the sun all afternoon

I and my family spent the first week of January 2012 in Tenerife, Los Cristianos and an apartment in the hotel Cristian Sur. This was a package trip we bought from Solresor. At this time of the year, the ocean is not very warm so we spent most of our lazy time in the hotel garden by the pools. As always, only one of the pools was heated, but not very much. It was bearable and refreshing after a while in the sun. The weather was wonderful all week. Our apartment had two bedrooms, a sitting area with a sofa bed, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. Also two bathrooms with bath and shower and a great balcony with a few of the garden and pools. Lots of space for my family of 2 adults and three teenage kids. We had requested an apartment that did not face the street by the hotel and this request was honoured. The apartment was cleaned and towels and linnen changed five out of seven days. Quite sufficient. Also, the management was nice and polite, there was always at least one person in the reception from early morning till late at night. We communicated in English and they could help us out with the few questions we had. There were two small supermarkets and two small restaurants were you could get drinks and ligher meals. Nice staff everywhere. The location of the hotel suited us well. It was a 5 to 10 minute walk to the center of Los Cristianos or the nearest beach and those areas were a bit noisy till late at night. Better to stay at some distance and chose to go there when desired rather than to be exposed constantly. La Vista beach was a little bit further away, 10 to 15 minutes walk, but very nice. Also, if you rent a car when you visit Tenerife, it's easy and only a few minutes drive to get onto the highway that take you furhter west or north. We were all happy about our stay in Cristian Sur.

Our rented apartment was privarely owned at the front of the complex i.e overlooking the road not the pool. Heavy gates on the front door and patio door made it very secure. Unfortunately at this time of year, the patio failed to get the sun any time of day, so we did not spend much time out there. The complex has 4 pools and adequate sunbeds and sun terraces, although the pool was very cold. An onsite supermarket, bar/restaurant, money exchange ensured all one's needs were catered for. There are many bars close by, some with entertainment, but they do not intrude on one's comfort. The complex is very close to the bus station and a 15 minute walk from the heart of Los Cristianos and both beaches.

Room Tip: Poolside better
