A budget hotel, that had very good food to offer. Its proximity to M. G. Road meant easy reach for shopping. Rooms were generally orderly with minimum of frills. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable in local surroundings. This was helpful. Lack of internet facility was a let down.

We stayed here when we came back from Lachung and halted overnight (en route to Pelling the next day). We didn't go back to The Oriental, where we stayed for 3 days to tour Gangtok in the first part of our tour, as this was cheaper and we planned to only halt here for one night. The hotel seemed to be situated on a slope and the taxi had to do a manueover(sp?) to get in front of the hotel. I had to get down couple of flights to get to the reception and it look some time to get the guys to get us the room and take the luggage. I had taken an extra bed for my daugther and it was a hassle as Housekeeping got the bed laid down before 6PM as they were going to go. It left us with no space to move. The view from the room was great and made some nice pictures. We decided to go down to M.G.Road for the evening. Though there were stairs going down to M.G.Road at the back of the hotel it didn't seem to be maintained by the hotel and was slippery. We had to tread cautiously with a 3 yr old and a stroller. All the bathrooms had a open vent towards the corridor and it smelled wonderful(sarcasm) in the morning. The breakfast was very very good, you'll actually like every aspect of it with North Indian, South Indian and Continental options. We really enjoyed the hearty breakfast before leaving for Pelling.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms with a view, being on a slope offers unobstructed view of mountains

We stayed for two nights in two rooms. Corner Rooms are huge, with good view. Hotel staff is nice & courteous. We had buffet breakfast and dinner and was tasty. Hotel is above & walking distance from the famous MG Road in Gangtok. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Reception has good quality gift items at the market price.

This hotel is good, it is under construction or renovation is going on so it was not that clean, food is good, room service is also so so because our first tea order took on hour to come in our room. Location wise alright. If want to go to MG Marg, shortcut is there through kitchen, we just have to go downstairs through slippry stairs. After construction is complete i think it would be nice place to stay.

Stayed at Ttakshang Residency for 3 nights along with my wife and infant son. We stayed in deluxe plus room, which are spacious, and offer better view. The one we stayed in, offered possibly the best view of all the rooms, (we even saw the golden kanchenjunga at sunrise from our room window (pic attached)), what else one can want in terms of wiew. (but not all the rooms offer the view). The facilities in the rooms are good, bathrooms are spacious and clean, with hot water.

The staff of the hotel are very courteous, and helpful. They provided hot milk and special Khichdi (porridge) for our infant baby whenever we requested, this special attention and care went a long way in making our stay comfortable and memorable. Food in the restaurant otherwise is v good, B/F buffet was nice but we definitely missed eggs, but the dinner buffet was excellent.

Location of the hotel is good. However, for us locating the hotel was difficult, as out Taxi wala did not know the place (not his fault, as he was from bagdogra, and not a local) and it was night time and raining and roads were deserted and no help available. however, Hotel staff helped us reaching, as they guided us very well over the phone. In the morning, the manager showed us the stairs within the hotel, which leeds you straight on to MG Marg, so just take few steps and you are in the midst of a shopping paradise. Very convenient indeed.

Overall, had a pleasant stay at Ttakshang Residency. Very good value for your money

Gangtok is truly a paradise - though not the best one in winters (it gets just too cold)! Despite the season we (my wife and I - honeymoon) went in (December 2010), it was worth it. And Ttakshang Residency was a great beginning. It was the first real impression we got of Sikkim and it was a great first impression. The rooms were cozy, comfortable - and most importantly, CLEAN! Just what we needed after an extremely tiring journey from Mumbai to Sikkim. We stayed there for 2 nights (the first 2 nights of our Sikkim tour). The food was delicious and the eating arrangements were meticulous. The cherry on the cake was the service and the staff. Courteous, ever helpful and friendly. On more occasions than one they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Including the manager, Reshma.

The tour of North Sikkim can be very grueling, physically as well as mentally. The entire area is almost a secluded part of Sikkim with its own rules, culture and temperaments. The people, though generally friendly and helpful, can be temperamental.

The manager at Ttakshang Residency had organised our trip to North Sikkim. While the tour was pleasant, the trip back to Gangtok was particularly harsh. We had paid the entire amount in advance - this amount included a tour of certain points. Now, it being our first visit, we had no idea that we are allowed to visit only those points that are pre-decided in the itinerary. First time travellers to North Sikkim must note that every point comes with a fee - so if you have paid 10K, it will cover 3 points and your stay. If you visit any additional point, despite booking an exclusive vehicle, you will need to pay an additional charge. So one must be well aware of the points that are listed in the itinerary.

We missed this little point. Upon reaching Lachung (North Sikkim) and having covered certain points, our driver offered us to drive us to an additional point. We thought it was all a part of the tour, so we agreed. It is only while returning from Lachung that he stopped the car halfway and demanded extra money (a pretty hefty sum) for the additional point. All negotiations had broken down and it was almost a fight between the driver - a localite and us - a hapless, stranded couple. This is when we contacted the manager at Ttakshang Residency and she came to our rescue. She negotiated on our behalf and the matter was sorted, and we resumed our journey. We owe a thanks to Ttakshang Residency for that.
