Sète, a town of canals, models itself on Venice. And this hotel is modeled on the Venetian palaces of bygone centuries, several, like the Gritti, latterly re-purposed as hotels around a swooping (often covered) internal courtyard. Locate right on Sète's "Grand Canal", this property is the ideal starting point for a walking tour of town. Just up the road are most of the town's better fish and seafood restaurants. The concierge will be happy to advice on which ones to try.

Our visit happened to coincide with the annual jousting tournament, which unfolds on the waters of the Grand Canal. The town was flooded with a happy, boisterous crowd, with the hotel proving a haven of peace amidst the (relative) madness outdoors.

Sète itself is charming, but staying in this hotel made our visit much more memorable than it otherwise would have been. Nearly all the rooms are large, several have terraces, all are light-flooded and they proved excellent value for money. A convivial breakfast is served in the courtyard. And the hotel's own restaurant (which we did not sample) looked charming.

NB: book a hotel parking spot ahead of time. Parking is at a premium in Sete, and the nearest public parking lot is a long way away.

Very strongly recommended.

Room Tip: The lower floors have higher ceilings

We stayed at this hotel one night as part of a cycling tour. The hotel was clean and well-appointed. The staff was friendly. The location was excellent as the hotel is located right on the canal and the view from our room was wonderful. Breakfast was typical for this type of hotel in France.

Room Tip: Canal front is a must!

I had a huge (especially for France) room - sleeping area, dining table and sofa; with an equally spacious bathroom. The only thing lacking were fancy amenities in the bathroom, otherwise this is a four-star hotel. Very friendly staff and an excellent (reservations required) restaurant. I'd go back.

Very clean and comfortable with friendly staff in an excellent location by the old town and many waterside restaurants nearby. Would certainly stay there again. Secure parking was an added bonus as street parking in Sete is difficult.
