“Pros and Cons”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

I think this hotel is good value for the price, but keep in mind it is not a 5 star so do not expect 5 star treatment. Also know that there are three (3) levels of resorts here and the Beach is the lowest one and you cannot go to the others if you are at the Beach. I will give you my pro’s and con’s by category in MY order of importance:

Beach:
Pro’s-nice sandy beach, lots of chairs and pallipas or trees to go under. They keep it really clean, sweeping up the seaweed all the time.
Con’s –water is not the clearest, often murky with unknown floating sediment, the bottom has yucky squishy spots and you do have to watch for urhins close to the grassy areas next to the swimming line.

Food:
Pro’s-the food is good here, mostly tastily prepared, lots of it too. Japanese restaurant is the best, very nice presentation and preparation. Steak house good too. Buffet is plentiful but weird hours, lunch does not start until 1 pm. But in saying that, there is always something to eat, as when the main Buffet is closed the Steakhouse/beach bar is open.
Con’s-I must preface this with “I HATE cold buffet food” so if you don’t get the waffels, or French toast right off the grill, don’t bother. But there is so much other great variety of food available, you probably won’t care. Fresh cooked omelets, eggs etc are great. My only real complaint is that the Buffets generally has the same foods every day, but since there is such a wide selection, it is OK.

Wine & Champagne:
No pro’s at all, the available house wine and Champagne is gross, don’t even have any. Which is too bad really as I like to have wine with my meal but could not stomach it at the Buffet or bars. The Restaurants usually have a “one up” wine that is drinkable and they also have wine lists to choose from but you to have to pay for that.

Rooms & Mini bars:
Pro’s-clean, good size, comfortable king size beds. Very roomy rooms. TV if you are so inclined has lots of channels.

Con’s- We upgraded to the ocean front rooms and were glad we were on the bottom floor, only problem was the solid wall for our balcony made it seem like a cave, the higher floors have open balcony’s so would be better. Also, beware of the mustiness, which you often get in the Caribbean and I think it is generally worse on the bottom floor, so suck it up buttercup, we didn’t mind that too much though. The “mini bar” is there but not great, the beer is Carib which we don’t like at all, a few pop and water and is filled only every two days, so save your water bottles and fill them up at the beach bar.

Booze:
Pro’s-they do have many main stream brands (except for wine) but specify if you want a drink with Canadian Club whisky, or real Baileys, or you will get the other stuff. A lot of good bartenders.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms very nice

... by 54 people staying at this resort last week who were bumped. Booked in November 2011 with another couple to stay at the Iberostar Feb 11-18. Received a call from Sunquests outsourced bad news agency Thursday night before departure (less than 48 hours ) that the resort was overbooked and we had three options; cancel, move to another resort or stay at another resort for one night. As we had activities planned at Iberostar we went with option 3.
Thoroughly enjoyed the resort. Rooms were good, buffets were good. Particularly enjoyed the Cajun a la carte. Only complaint would be with reservation system for a la cartes as others have mentioned. To hear that the restaurants are full and then go and see tables more empty than full says something must be wrong. Ate at the Steakhouse at 9 pm with almost no one else there.
Seaweed issue has been talked to death and wasn't too bad when we were there at least.
Resort was very handy to both White Witch and Cinnamon Hill golf courses (about 15 minutes away ). Concierge helped set up tee times and transport for both.
As far as Sunquest goes, their lack of help and responsibility on the bumping issue is unbelievable. There answer to us and others was that we should cancel and book another time. The 'on site Sunquest rep' is only there 2 hours a week and one of those was when we were at the other resort.
We would definitely stay at this resort but would never book with Sunquest again.

Dear Guest,

It is our pleasure to know that you enjoyed our services and that we were able to provide you a delightful stay. We hope that when returning to Jamaica, you will give us the opportunity to host you once again, as it was indeed our pleasure to have served you.
For the specialty restaurants reservations are booked depending on the number of nights you will be staying at the hotel. Due to the size of the restaurants, and the need to provide our 5 star services to all our guests we have a specific number of persons for each dining time, with considerations made for persons to dine after.
We sincerely regret if the circumstances mentioned may have affected your vacation experience and your perception of our hotel.
We sincerely hope that we will be given the opportunity to prove to you our commitment to excellent customer service and satisfaction, and welcome you here in the future.

We visit Jamaica quite frequently. We usually stay at another all-inclusive resort, but wanted to try something different. It was good to try another all-inclusive because it proves the fact that “you never know what you got ‘til it’s gone.” Needless to say we will return to our “old faithful” when we return. This is a beautiful hotel, and the beach is average (lots of trees on the beach). Trees on the beach are not my preference, but if you like that then go for it….you’ll love it!!! All in all; the water itself has very little seaweed by this hotel, but as you travel to the Iberostar Suites and Grand which are right next door; there is absolutely no seaweed. I did not indulge in the lazy river as this is on the Suites side, and you are treated like a second class citizen when venturing over to the Suites and Grand (as another reviewer mentioned). Our room was on the far side of the hotel, and we frequently heard police sirens, and car alarms at night…..not what one would want to hear on vacation. I felt like I was back in Baltimore. We later found out that there is what one may consider a “shanty town” right next door to this hotel (see pictures). There is a path from this hotel to the area where patrons can purchase souvenirs from this area if they so choose. This is the first all-inclusive that I visited where the expectation of a tip is so blatant. I don’t mind tipping, but frequently don’t walk around the resort with cash on my person. This got to be annoying, as it was obvious that if you did not tip; then you definitely would not get serviced promptly. On our second and third days; the water in a portion of the landscaping was drained, which was very displeasing to the eye. Unsurprisingly, I will not return to this resort.

Room Tip: Request a room on the side with the Suites. Far side rooms are loud with "outside noise."

I mostly picked this place because it advertised a children's pool. On inspection, it turned out to be more like a bucket with a ladder into it. There was no playground and children's club looked dreadful (though we didn't actually use it - just had to walk through it to get to the "children's pool"). The rooms are kind of old though clean enough and the beach is wonderful. So, if your child doesn't need any of those amenities, then it's a good inexpensive place to stay at. Otherwise, the nearby Suites is a much more child-friendly place (as can be testified by a ton of children there, as opposed to Beach which had very very few).

We stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach from Feb 9th to Feb 16th. I never write reviews but I felt it was necessary to let people know how wonderful this place is.

This was my first time travelling with my 20 month old daughter, so I was a little nervous about the food and safety...However NO WORRIES! The buffet is wonderful and even the pickiest eaters can find something to much on. Boiled milk is available 24hrs a day so my daughter could have her bottle anytime.

The check in was fast, we were the only 3 people there at the time, it was early in the morning, so our room was not ready, however the restaurants are open and we went to the beach to eat which is great.
The rooms are clean and the ac works great if you need it.
The beach is wonderful, with white sand and blue water. The pool is great with swim up bar, but we stayed at the beach everyday. The waiters come around to serve drinks on the beach and by the pool.
The food is worth 5 star hotel. Great quality and selection. The deserts and mango ice cream are to die for. We only ate the buffet, since our little one is not exactly sit and eat kind of child for longer than 30 minutes, but we heard the a la carte restaurants are good.

The grounds are immaculate, lovely waterfalls, clean and lovely!

I can't say enough about the friendly and courteous staff. Always eager to help and assist with anything you need. They remembered my daughters name and always greeted her! They are amazing staff, professional and talented.
They have 8pm disco for kids, and the staff play games and music. Great video opportunity! Also there is kids club with water slide and play area.

The night shows are good, better than most resorts and they have some amazing talent working the shows.
I have been to several resorts in the caribean and this one is by far worth the money!!

Thank you to all the staff for our great vacation!!!

Room Tip: Its great for singles, family and couples....

We just returned from our trip on Feb 12, 2012. There were six of us and we all had a great time! What a nice resort, the people were great and the entertainment staff were so friendly and can they dance... The resort is not so huge that you are walking all the time, everything is close and very nice. Food was great, we hope to go back next year. We have been to Jamaica 4 times now and of all the places we have traveled we love the Jamaican people the best....

Room Tip: I think they are probably all good because it's not a huge place.

This was another amazing destination wedding. Both my daughters have had destination weddings within the last year....this is definately the way to do it....we had 58 of our family and friends join us for this wedding in Jamaica at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. The wedding coordinator was outstanding and followed through on all the request that my daughter had asked for. My daughter is very organized and so it made it very easy for her. There were 8 girls that went to the spa the day of the wedding to have our hair done, ( which was booked a few months ahead) and one think i can sayt is they did exactly what we wanted. These girls are all amazing. The beach set up was gorgeous and the reception dinner was at the steak a la carte restaurant right at the beach, it was outstanding. My daughter and son in law also has a steel drum band, complete bar set up and bon fire on the beach booked for after the dinner. Unbelievable. What a great time that was. Than we all headed to the disco at about 11pm . It was great. It is a beautiful hotel, food was really really good with 3 a la carte's, 2 buffets with a large variety , pool and beaches very nice and the staff were all amazing and there immediately when ever you needed them. The only thing iI found was that more than most of the resorts we have been to, most of the hotel rooms we had were very musty smelling, bring scented candles and open the sliding doors occasionally when you are in your room to help out. I think it was probably due to airconditioners, if you don't have it set properly they don't turn on. But overall it's not a big deal ,your in a tropical paradise so alot of these resorts are like that. We had such a great time and definately recommend this resort

Room Tip: End rooms that are right at the ocean
