B&B Sotto il Vulcano

Good location in the suburbs of Nicolosi - a 15 minute walk into town and easy journey to the southern slopes of Etna (Rifugio Sapienza). Accommodation surrounded by pleasant gardens, there's car parking space, and a nice patio. Rooms are not that big but clean, comfortable, and adequate. The separate kitchen/breakfast room and the breakfast provided is great. It's a communal affair which works well - you're soon swopping tales with the Germans, Belgians, Dutch, and others you're sharing the table with. The room's never locked, there's an endless supply of coffee at all hours, and if you want to heat a slice of pizza or even cook some pasta, it's no problem. In fact, nothing's a problem for the owners, Salvo and Antonella (they live next door) who are absolutely super people and will go out of their way to make sure you're happy. Treat it like your home Antonella said - and she meant it. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms on the breakfast room side of the accommodation are probably slightly larger

Best breakfast that we had anywhere in Sicily ! Copious amounts of a great variety of local and fresh food, coupled with the opportunity for an endless supply of good coffee & freshly squeezed orange juice, both at breakfast and at any other time throughout the day.
Room was adequate size with TV & fridge provided, the only snag that the shower wasn't enclosed and so flooded the whole bathroom when it was used.
Antonella was a mine of information on Etna and surrounding areas and we would not hesitate to recommend this as a most friendly stopping off point to visit Etna.

Sotto il Vulcano was our obvious choice, as I had already stayed there some years ago. Accomodation is clean and well maintained, and the hosts are adorable and helpful in anything you may need! Location is just right below Etna, so it was great for my cyclist friends and I ... and besides ... bfast still rocked ... that pistacchio croissant is heavenly!!! Well done Salvo!!!!

We stayed for one night , on our way to see Mt Etna at close quarters. From the moment we arrived, we experienced amazing hospitality. Antonella & Salvo are the friendliest and most enthusiastic hosts we’ve ever come across. The B & B is ideally positioned in the Mt Etna foothills, making for a perfect base to explore the volcano. It stands in its own grounds, on a quiet road at the edge of the town, with ample guest parking on site. Our room was clean & bright & we were even able to enjoy a sunny afternoon picnic in the garden just outside our room. There is a communal room with facilities to make your own drinks & prepare food, which you can use whenever you want. A delightful breakfast is served in that communal room, where all the guests sit at one long table & have a chance to chat about their Sicilian experiences. We would definitely recommend this B & B to anyone looking for accommodation in Nicolosi. You certainly won’t be disappointed. We're just sad that our schedule just didn't allow us to stay there longer.

It´s our second stay at this B&B and we´ve been more than satisfied every time. The breakfast room is cosy and you share a table with other guests, who have the same interest as you... hiking on the Etna and waiting for the next eruption :) The owners are very keen on helping you with suggestions where to go etc, what to see and when it´s nice to go there and not. They also strive to make you feel at home.

Nicolosi offers a wide range of possibilities in regards to hiking, bicycling and a cute little centre with a very nice pasticceria... and of course Pizzerias, restaurants, ice cream bars etc. Note if you choose to walk to the centre in the evening (5 min, we did this every evening), a flash light for your own is advised to be more visible for the cars. The Volcanologic museum is also worth a visit. In addition Nicolosi is within driving distance of Catania, Taormina, Acireale etc at the coast.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have a view of the Etna, but otherwise the two rooms we´ve tried are both comforta...

Sotto il vulcano is absolutely the place to stay when visiting sicily. We went there for the first time and as soon as we arrived we found this place fantastic. The owners Antonella and Salvo are the most welcoming hosts we have ever met. They helped us with hiring bikes and a car ,they gave us instructions of how to arrive at certain places. The room was so very clean with bright white bed linen and towels the room was cleaned every day .The breakfast was superb with lots of homemade jams and freshly baked bread and croissants. The kitchen was open 24 hours and one could go and cook or make a cup of coffee whenever he liked. This place makes you feel more than at home.

This was our second time in Sicily. The accommodation is a family-run business with the two most amiable hosts - Antonella and Salvo. They immediately made us feel at home. The location of the B&B is excellent, very clean and with space where you can park the car. Very quiet location with all amenities nearby. This accommodation is extremely good value for money. Alla prossima!!! Antonella & Salvo grazie mille di tutto quanto - siete i migliori!!!
