We booked a last minute 4 night break in Tenerife and chose these apartments as they were reasonable and we know the area well. We booked with Travel Republic and flew with Norwegian Airlines - it was a nice clean plane and plenty of leg room, they took off early and it was a good flight. We booked transfers from the airport for a "speedy shuttle" (max 4 stops) and it was a minibus for just the two of us, on the way back a large coach with hardly anyone on it, and we would book that again.
Anyway - the apartment. We had asked for a one bedroom, self catering apartment and really fell on our feet. When booking we had asked for a quiet non smoking room, and we were allocated room 2125. This apartment is at the end of a corridor with 2 other properties so is quite private. It had 3 balconies that got the sun from about 11.30 all day, there were 3 sun beds, 2 patio tables and 4 chairs. The kitchen was well equipped with a fridge and small freezer at the top, and the hob and oven were really good quality - as a keen cook I was able to bake bread in it which was as good as my oven at home. We couldn't find any cooking utensils, like a spatula etc, but there are a few good quality saucepans and frying pans which did the job for breakfast, and a kettle, toaster and microwave. Usual mugs, cups and saucers, wineglasses and coffee filter pot/tea pot. There was even a washing machine in the bathroom! (We couldn't work out how to work it though and as it didnt belong to us and as we were only there 4 days, we left it alone! but it would be brilliant if you were there for 2 weeks). The room is privately owned, if the owners read this review, thank you for letting your apartment out, we loved it and would book again!
Our bedroom was a good size and had twin beds - had a really decent night sleep in them too. The bedroom and living room/kitchen had big ceiling fans which did a very good job of cooling the rooms down and keeping the air circulating.
The living room/kitchen had a self-contained balcony and the bedroom had its own balcony, leading off to another which was a real little sun trap. Both sets of patio doors did not have locks but had a piece of wood that stopped the doors from being pushed back from outside - it worked well and we had no worries at leaving the apartment at night - most of the apartments below are privately owned and lived in so no one could have got over the balcony anyway. Any one who has locked themselves out on a balcony will appreciate that at least you can get back in again!
The man on reception was very friendly, you can "buy" a key for the back gate so you dont have to walk round to reception every time for 10 euros which you get back when you hand the key and receipt in on departure. The maid came round every day to pop a mop over the floor and do a clean of the kitchen and bathroom, make beds etc, and the towels are changed every two days.
We didn't go to the pool but it looked really nice, clean and plenty of sun beds.
There were supermarkets all around, the one near the reception and opposite Aqualand was well stocked and even baked fresh bread and pastries and there are a few cafes that do English breakfasts etc - one even sells roasted chickens to take away. Iceland is just round the corner so for self catering you are good for all your shopping.
It is a walk into the centre of Playa and is hilly as the apartments are situated on a hill side - we didn't find it a problem as we like to run and walk but it probably wouldnt suit everyone but taxis are plentiful. El Molino Blanco restaurant is a very short walk away (reviewed separately - but go!). There is a walkway and a few roads near the complex - its a residential area after all but the noise was minimal and it didn't disturb us.
There was plenty of hot water - not sure if this is throughout the complex but please be really careful - the water is SCALDING and I burnt my fingers quite badly so we kept the taps all turned on to cold afterwards, so please be aware - particularly if you have young children. You live and learn!
Would we go again? Yes but only if we had this room again, it was absolutely perfect for the short break that we desperately needed for some R&R and it did exactly what it said on the tin.
