Grecotel Kos Imperial Hotel
Ranked #8 of 19 Hotels in Psalidi
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 5 August 2012

Have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to the imperial hotel in Kos. The hotel is ranked as five Thomsons T's but is in fact 4 stars. The lobby of the hotel is very impressive on first sight and check in was both swift and well organised.

Hotel Room
Our hotel room was quite dated, the wicker furniture was tired and the television absolutely ancient! We felt that supplying a headboard for the third bed in the room would have been beneficial. On the positive side we were pleasantly surprised to find that the spacious safe in the room was free, as was the wifi. Sadly we quickly found that the complimentary slippers were necessary as the floors were absolutely filthy. We requested an extra pillow at reception that was never supplied.

Food
The food and service in the a la carte restaurant was fantastic and well worth a visit if not just to sample the unbelievable puddings! The food at the daily buffets (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was aimed at the masses and therefore quite bland. The attitude of the staff at the buffets was quite mixed and varied between very friendly and approachable to downright rude and surly! That said it was always easy to get served for drinks in the restaurant. As a guest who had paid for all inclusive I was most irritated to find that our 'all inclusive' option stopped at 5 o'clock on the day we checked out as our flight was not until midnight and therefore we did not leave for the airport until 9:15.

Pools
The pools were beautiful, the three pools catered for different tastes and ages and there were plentiful padded sunbeds. The sunbeds were reserved quite early in the morning so if you have a particular spot in mind you may wish to reserve before breakfast as most people do. In the hotel welcome package it stated that anyone reserving a sunbed would have their towel removed, however this was not the case.

Entertainment
The animation team try extremely hard and certainly provide lots of fun activities for children as part of their crèche service 'grecoland'. As a party of adult travellers we found the entertainment to be a bit of a mixed bag the 'bought in' entertainment was of a reasonable standard the hotel created entertainment was frankly a bit embarrassing!

Explosion!
All in all we enjoyed our stay, apart from the day that the pool bar exploded! We had left the pool bar possibly 10 minutes before we heard a large bang and lots of people screaming. There had been an explosion in the kitchen of the pool bar and the front serving hatch and roof caught fire. It took around an hour for the fire to be brought under control during which slightly alarmingly there was no sign of either a fire alarm or the fire brigade. From that day on lunch was served in the hotel restaurant while the pool bar was rebuilt by a team of builders, which was a little noisy (but understandable). We were just pleased that if we believed the hotel none of the staff had been injured (this felt quite unbelievable considering the speed and ferocity of the fire.)

Dear Christina G,

Thank you very much for your feedback on your recent stay at Grecotel Kos Imperial. We were most disappointed to learn that certain aspects of your holiday had not met with your expectations and run as smoothly as you had wished.

At Grecotel we pride ourselves on excellent standards of service and hospitality, therefore after reading your contribution, I have fully investigated all the points that you have brought to our attention and would like to take this opportunity to comment on them:

Although our hotel is well known for the high quality of the service provided and the rooms & cleanliness are regarded as some of the best in our Group, we were sorry to read your opinion. We take every comment as a motivation to improve further and I’ll be monitoring these items closely.

I would like to clarify that the all-inclusive “Premium Plus” package is presented to all our tour operator partners (including Thomson) and its contents and limitations are mutually agreed. More specifically, this package is valid from the time of arrival until 5pm on the departure day even though official check-out time (internationally) is 12:00 hrs. Additionally, anyone who arrives late on the first day is entitled to any lost meal during their stay.

Concerning the ‘explosion’ in our Taverna kitchen, our staff and management showed extreme courage and composure despite the difficult situation. It will be unfair not to mention that the fire was extinguished after only 30’ and before the fire brigade arrived.

Once again I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your feedback and to apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please rest assured that all your comments have been discussed with the relevant departments of the hotel and that action will be taken as a result of your feedback. I trust that despite the comments that you have made that this will not deter you from considering Grecotel Kos Imperial or other hotels in the Grecotel group for your future holidays.

My husband was on a business trip, so I thought it would be a good idea to join him along with our younger daughter.

Overall, the experience was amazing... location, service and facilities are outstanding... staff makes you fell at home and they are always smiling and willing to assist you.
Breakfast and dinner buffets are so loaded you cannot make your mind what to select...
Rooms were clean, spacious and nicely furnished, even though we had garden view, we didn't mind. It's a great choice for kids who enjoy swimming pool, Grecoland and free lunch... with lots of ice cream... :) They even supply bathroom amenities especially for kids.

On the down side... drinks are kind of expensive... restaurant closes at 21:15 so if you're a late arrival, as we were, you have to go out for dinner.
For a hotel giving so much emphasis on kids, room service could also include some kids menu.

This is a hotel we'll defintely return to.

This resort was simply beautiful in every way. The rooms were large, clean and spacious, with great in room controlled AC, a welcome basket with fruit, water and wine. The 2 attached main pools were very beautiful, but very busy, so we preferred the slightly out of the way 3rd pool that was both clorine and salt water, very nice and more quiet. The nightly entertainment was enjoyable, the buffets were delicious with more choices than one can imagine with foods from all walks of life. The service was the best I have ever hand and I am well travelled. Additionally, there were tour companies in house where you could book excurions to other locations on the island or even to Turkey for the day. The views were stunning. The spa services were also wonderful and priced typically for a resort, but higher than at a place in ones normal every day town. This location was perfect having pools and direct access to the beach, while only being a few miles from Kos town and Zia. The city bus was clean, stopped right in front of the resort and cheap.

Room Tip: We had a water view and I would hate to have a room that did not offer this view. Just asking for a...

We really loved this place! Wonderful breakfast, great pools for whole family and lovely staff. And of course special thanks to Imperial Windsurf - surfcenter which is located on hotel's private beach. Very good choice for families (we have 14 months old son) who like very easy (all inclusive=premium plus) vacation with windsurfing activity from beginner to advanced. Free lunch buffet for kids and very nice pool for children (no salty water like other pools). All drinks were pricy so it was really worth to choose all inclusive. For windsurfers: a bit choppy further away and excellent setups for all levels but bring your own surfshoes!

my wife and I recently spent 7 days at this wonderful hotel. From the moment we checked in until we checked out you could not fault a single thing. The level of service from the staff, the quality of the food and the general appearance of the resort was exceptional.
Other people have said that you should take the premier plus option, definitely the right choice.
We holiday 4 times a year and we have never experienced such attention to detail - as a fellow guest said to us " this hotel has set the standard that others will be judged by"
It did not matter whether you were in one of the bars, the restaurant or by the pool the level of service was superb.
It is rare for us to return so quickly, however, next year we will not only be returning but will be taking our son, daughter in law and grand children so they may enjoy the experience

Room Tip: Choose a bungalow room with a full sea view

I spent a relaxing and luxurious week at the Kos Imperial from June 16 until June 23, 2012.
The hotel exceeded my expectations. On arrival I was blown away by the stunning lobby and reception area, and equally thrilled to find out I had been upgraded to one of the bungalow rooms.
Lovely and spacious, modern bathroom and a huge balcony.
I went all inclusive and was not disappointed. Food was superb. A fantastic choice at breakfast time. Delicious Greek yoghurt, honey cakes, fresh fruit, sparkling wine and smoked salmon, plus all the usual hot and cold meats, croissants, cereals and eggs etc. Fresh coffee was always brought to the table by the attentive and friendly waiters.
Lots of choice at lunch time too. You can dine in the Taverna or have a snack at the pool bar.
Evening meals also delicious. The meat and fish were cooked to perfection and always piping hot. What really makes the meals is that you can sit outside at the Lagoons restaurant and enjoy the stunning views around. You feel as though you are not just in a hotel restaurant but somewhere special.
If you go all inclusive, take advantage of a meal in the A La Carte Restaurant. Views are stunning and the food is out of this world. I felt like royalty.
The pools are huge and there is a lot of space for sun loungers.
With a private beach just a stone's throw away, you can walk from the pool down to the beach if you fancy a dip in the sea.
For me it was the holiday of a lifetime. The staff were so friendly and attentive, the hotel is modern, well equipped and immaculately cared for.
My only regret, I wish I had gone for two weeks!

My wife and two teenagers have just returned from a superb week at the Kos Imperial. We took the premium plus option and we would recommend it. No coloured bands to wear just a credit sized card to show at the point of ordering either food or drinks. The Hotel food was of excellent quality. The staff were superb. The rooms are of a good size and the beds comfortable. Our son and his friend, both 16, had a great time.

Room Tip: select a high floor and go for sea view
