I love this place! I have stayed here for almost one month now and everything about Vostra Llar is great. The rooms are clean and spacious. The restaurant has a wide variety of dishes to choose from, everyone of them being delicious and of good value. But what makes this hotel as good as it is, is the staff. They are so friendly and helpful and most of them speak near perfect English.
This hotel is definately the place to stay in Palamos, but even if you are not a guest in the hotel you can visit the restaurant, try a mojito in the garden or a gin and tonic in the Piconera bar, where they also serve tasty home made burgers and tapas. You will then understand why i love this place so much.

A very nice hotel with perfect location. Value for money. Food is very good and staff very nice and professionell. Cleaning perfect and the rooms look very nice. The small garden is beautiful. Eating tapas in the bar is so lovely. We have visited the hotel every year since 2007.

Room Tip: Very nice rooms. Clean and well furnished and decorated.

After a recent bereavement, my wife and I wanted to get away for a week, and we chose Vostra Llar where my wife had once stayed some 15 years ago.

This was an excellent choice. The public areas of the hotel (Why do they call it a hostal, I wonder?) such as the restaurant, are decorated in a style reminiscent of Spanish colonial times - I would say the Philippines around 1880! - lots of tropical wood, tropical plants etc, while the patio or garden with its profusion of greenery and the bar with comfortable armchairs are delightful places to sit and have a drink.

The bedrooms are large and airy, and have individual airconditoning system that really does work (not always found, even in hotels with a higher classification), and a balcony with a table and a couple of chairs.

We ate most of the time in the hotel's restaurant: their set lunch and dinner menus (3 courses, with wine included) are priced at just under 11 euros per head and are great value. We actually had mero (grouper) for lunch one day, generally regarded by Spaniards as one of the Mediterranean's finest fishes and which I have not seen on any menu for a long, long time. We also ate à la carte for very reasonable prices. Their rice dishes (paella, black rice with sepia and sepia estafado) were particularly good.

Breakfast (included) was simple but adequate: juices, fresh fruit (melon, water melon, oranges etc), cereals, yoghurt, croissants and "pain au chocolat", a choice of cold meats and of course "pan con tomate", The individually-made cups of coffee were excellent. I very much dislike coffee from an urn with boiled milk from another. Why cannot other hotels follow the example of Vostre LLar (and of course local bars and cafés) and serve decent coffee? It makes all the difference!

Finally, I would like to commend the staff. They were all extremely pleasant - the reception, restaurant, bar, chamber maids etc - very helpful, and with just the right amount of attention - not hovering over you at all times nor causing you long periods of waiting before you can even grab their attention. In point of fact, the staff seemed to anticipate our wants and additional requests - having noted our ejnoyment of their fresh orange with chocolate at lunch time, when we repeated at dinner time we were brought extra large portions!

Minor complaints? As in so many hotels these days, the bedroom lighting is so dim that there is hardly enough light to read in bed. The lift is very small - two people only at a time, or one person and a suitcase - but this was not a real inconvenience to us. Parking is not easy as the hotel has no garage, but staff told us of the places where we could park free of charge, only a 2 minute walk away.

Vostra Llar (Catalan for "Your Home") certainly lives up to its name. It's 50 metres from the beach, and while there is not a great deal to do in Palamos if you are not a beach fan, it is the ideal base for visiting the area. Whatever you do, don't miss (1) the Botanical Gardens of Cap Roig, designed and built in 1927 by Dorothy Webster - look her up on the web, a "fallen woman" in her day - and her Russian colonel husband; and (2) the castle at Pubol that Salavador Dali bought for Gala, his mistress and inspiration.

Although called the Hostal Vostra Llar this is correctly rated as a 3* hotel. It is more traditional as against the modern high glass palaces usually found on the Costas. It is very well kept with ongoing re-furbishments every year. We have stayed here over many years. It is welcoming and very professionaly run by what seems to be the same staff over the years. The rooms are excellent. All have air-con, balconies and bathrooms (some with bath + shower and others with just shower). A generous continental breakfast is included with the option of half or full board as well. The restaurant is very popular with outsiders for the menu del dia which is remarkable value.
There is no pool or entertainment here just comfortable surroundings with really nice staff. A small patio garden is at the front but not seen from the road. The beach is about 100 yards away.
Palamos is a smallish town and is a working fishing fishing port. Although a holiday town as well it is very Spanish (Catalan). A walk along the seafront takes you to San Antonio which is the modern holiday part of the bay. Mainly a self catering spot but equally nice. Recommend the town and hotel to older folk who do not want late music bars and discos etc. Teenagers would probably say it was boring with nothing to do ! Just what we like.
