“Takes your breath away”

We had a great week in Villa La Ruga along with my mother (83) and 3 kids (6, 9 and 12). The sheer beauty of the place took our breath away every time we stepped onto the porch or caught a glimpse of the lake from inside the house. We'd planned to go on a few more excursions from the villa while we were there but found dragging ourselves away a bit too challenging at times.

We were a little hesitant to rent a house without a pool to keep the kids entertained, but were happy to find easy access to the lake via the boathouse. While the supervision required was a little more active than is the case with a pool it was still good swimming. TIP: there are some submerged rocks to stand on adjacent to the terrace though it is worth taking some blow up pool toys to help take the weight off occasionally.

While I'm offering tips, I would definitely suggest renting a boat from Turati in Argegno. We did it on two occasions and had a great time. We'd stop for a swim, pull into town for a gelato, and then take off again. We would've done more of it but the weather wasn't great for a couple of days we were there. Turati might even deliver the boat to the boat house for you if they're not too busy (they did for us).

Mum's bedroom was up a few stairs which were easily managed by her. Other than that she could basically spend all her time there on one level (inside and out), which was very important to us and not so easy to find on the Lake Como shore.

The walk into Argegno takes a little over 5 minutes. It's a bit challenging walking up the steep driveway to the road (that said the house and garden is all basically on one level at the edge of the lake, bellissima!!), and a little hairy walking along the road, but around half of the walk is along pedestrian laneways that take you to the back of Argegno's main piazza.

Lastly, we found Francesco to be a great help. Whenever we wanted to ask him anything he was only a phone call away. We felt we had a friend nearby.

“Wonderful Villa on a Beautiful Lake”
Reviewed July 21, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The Villa Leonardo is a beautiful property. The grounds are wonderful. The patio area is right on the lake. Each night we had a chef prepare a beautiful meal for us. It is wonderful.

“UNFORGETTABLE”

My family (five adults + two children) spent our summer holiday on Lake Como at Villa La Ruga in early July 2014. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and the property exceeded our expectations (we had high expectations!). The villa was spacious, clean and the beds were very comfy. The location is absolutely perfect in between Como and Bellagio. Pictures don’t do justice – you have to see it to believe it. The views are picturesque -- you feel like you are in a postcard. We spent countless hours out on the terrace each evening soaking in every ounce of perfectness around us (my brother even slept outside the first night!). It’s been less than a week since we left and I have looked at pictures of Villa La Ruga every day – WISHING I was back there. This is a family vacation that we will never forget!

“Fantastic views”

My wife and I stayed in this villa for a week in early June 2014 with family and friends. The property is superbly located, with a view right up Lake Como and down the lake. Waking up in the morning, with the windows open, and looking up Lake Como from the bed is something very special. Garden space is excellent and very spacious, all with wonderful views.

There is some road noise, but that's common around the lake if you want to be lake side, due to road positioning.

Francesco is very friendly and helpful.

Narrow, steep driveway, so best not to arrive in a big car, but once you get used to it, it's not a problem.

The house is 2 minutes from the lovely town of Argegno, which has plenty of good restaurants and a ferry service to other parts of the lake, and is a short drive from other great little towns for sight seeing.

Loved staying here.

Liked best: The view.
Liked least: Road noise but we knew this at the time of booking, having staying on Lake Como before. Not an actual problem.
