Reviewed 23 April 2012

Although enjoyable 5 days mostly, some what disappointing as it doesn't have the services and facilities one expects of a Grand Mercure property or would associate with a resort facility. The reception and dining facilities are detached from the main guestrooms, and there is no one on phone or available after certain hours, frankly the hours or lack of hours the resturant and reception desk was open over a fully booked 100% full I was told (given couldnt move rooms even with all the noise issues we endured as others checke din and out)Easter holiday period was very poor. The lack of publicising limited resturant and reception services to guests at check-in, we checked in on the Thursday late afternoon of the Easter Break, luckily we made a run into Mansfield for a few basic supplies. Likewise I agree with others that have commented about noise issues.. I found the quiet room I had requested was anything but.. the rooms are very basic, clean, although no bath disappointing, and only just one hook to hang a towe on back of doorl!!! Given as a AVC member our room wasnt serviced in the 5 night stay, the lack of ability to be able to hang bath towels to air I found unacceptable. Also on check-in I established that for the periosd of our stay only 20% were vacation club members yet we seemed to have been placed in one of the worst locations of the property.. very noisy, given the slamming doors of the emergency exit that some guests and un superivised kids continued to use near to our room. Our room being a studio room under the living area of the Level 3 one bed Apartment above is ridiculous, the uncarpeted mezzanine flooring above us allowed even the slighted sound to be heard in our room, every chair, fork, knife plate etc. The plumbing is extremely noisy so again as those above us used the kitchen, it was like my bed was in the sink!!! Poorly designed layout with little to no noise insulation. The walls are paper thin and we could even hear the actual conversation and toilet habits of the guests in the above and adjoining rooms!! On a positive were the lovely ladies (Elle and ?)that when the resturant bar was open during this Easter period made ourstay worthwhile, however I was disappointed with the service of the reception staff though(Paul and Bree), were both pleasant enough but really could have done more to focus on the customer... I was advised property was inbetween managers at the time of our stay.... told was waiting on a new GM to start.. hopefully was just a busy time with lack of staffing that left me feeling property wasnt up to the ACCOR standards I have become accustomed too.

Room Tip: Avoid Rooms 210-211as near fire escape door and cleaners closet also room on level above has it'...

Stayed at the Grand Mercure recently in attending old school reunion weekend. While the accomodation is adequate and clean, in my view, it does not have the comforts and facilities one normally associates with resorts. One serious shortcoming is the reception and dining facilities are detached from the main guestrooms, and there is no one manning the phones after certain hours.
Nevertheless the grounds are spacious and pretty with the mountain ranges behind. The restaurant and breakfast room to me is the best part of this "resort" with a nice atmosphere, and verandah with expansive views, and the sound of birds perched on trees nearby. I was particularly impressed with the sole waitress Pat who managed to be both efficient and attentive all on her own

As Accor vacation club members we stayed in the apartments that have full kitchen facilities, which was great to be able to self cater for part of the 5 day holiday.
Rooms were clean and had all we needed, however as Accor members be mindful to take extra toilet paper and rubbish bags if staying for more than a couple of days, the shops are a fair hike for supplies.
Magical experience for our children that had never seen snow, and they loved the mini golf on site, as well as seeing the kangaroos at dusk, with joey's in the Mum's pouches.
Do your homework with regards the ski hire, we used the guys on site which were helpful, but pricey. Also make sure you have chains to suit your car for driving up to the mountain, or you will be up for a fortune to catch the bus, no such thing as family passes.

Loved the location, set in the beautiful hills at the base of Mt Buller. Paul at the reception who was also the barman, tour guide, tourist information etc was a pleasure to deal with. Grounds were very well kept as were all the facilities.

The walls are paper thin and we could even hear the actual conversation of the guests in the next room. A bit of sound insulation would have been sensible given the experience and history of the Mecure group. Fortunately the guests were not a noisy lot otherwise it would have been a deal breaker for us. Rooms were clean and comfortable but as Accor members we were at the bottom floor and one of the smallest rooms, kind of makes you wonder why you bother paying to be a member. Distance from the carpark to our room was a hike and with no elevator it was a big job getting our luggage to and from the room. If we were seniors it would have been almost impossible and there is no help available. Not a lot of consideration given by the operators there.

Having said that, a very pleasant atmosphere and we enjoyed our stay.

Merrijig and Mansfield were great towns but you couldn’t breath for police booking everything that moved or breathed, I have never seen anything like it. Marked and unmarked bikes and cars everywhere. Will never return to these towns on a long weekend, sorry local businesses.

Room Tip: Beware of the lower rooms, you can hear every step of the people in the room above. Try to get a roo...

This is a lovely resort set up on a hill in a quiet location. "Natural rock" pool is of a good length size, with a separate kiddy pool. Unusual mini-golf. Small "lake" with lots of kangaroos around - watch out for all the poos on the ground!! Handy accommodation at base of Mt Buller. Did not want buffet breakfast spread or pay too much at the restaurant, so we went to a cafe in Mirimbah, just at the toll booth before heading up to Mt Buller. Lovely cafe. Lots of 4WD tracks and camping sites around Mt Stirling and Mt Buller. We did the tracks during the day and came back to the resort. Go to Bedaree Falls (stand underneath, behind the falls) - beautiful. Go to Craigs Hut - spectacular scenery. This is a must. Drive around Mt Buller. We were there over Australia Day long weekend (summer) so lots of mountain bike activities. The cafe at Mirimbah also takes passengers and their bikes up to Mt Buller for a fee - 4 times a day. Came back to the resort each evening for a jacuzzi and sauna. Had dinner at Mill Inn (at Sawmill Settlement between resort and Mirimbah), lovely and unusual deco setting - interesting. Good food. Food at the resort restaurant was good but slow. There were only 2 staff doing everything, including attending to the reception!! There's a games room down below reception area which is great for kids and adults alike. Walk around the resort - very peaceful. Sit and watch the ducks and kangaroos in the evenings. Our fourth stay here - mainly it's the only "decent" resort closest to Buller (accommodation up at Buller costs more presumably), but it's nice to get out but still come back to some peace, quiet and serenity.

Room Tip: There's room in the main hotel building or stand-alone chalets that have their own verandah or b...
