Let's get one thing clear - this is easily the number 1 hotel in Skala and if there's a better one in the whole of Kefalonia we don't know about (we've been to the island 4 times in the last 7 years), we would be very surprised.

We returned to the Regina Dell Acqua in June 2011, after an amazing stay in 2010. When we contacted the hotel to inform them we were returning and to ask if they could arrange a taxi to pick us up from the hotel (which they did with no fuss - much quicker than the coach transfer which takes ages) we happened to mention how much we liked the room we stayed in the previous year. Before we knew it they emailed back to say they were holding the same room for us, even though we didn't have a guaranteed sea view room booked with our travel operator.

When we arrived we were greeted like we were family and the attention they gave to our 4-year-old son in particular was amazing. The staff, from the Manager Mr Papadatos and his wonderful deputy Anastasia (Natasha) through to night barman Napoleon (the best maker of Mojitos on the island), day barman George (the best maker of smoothies on the island). Yiannis (the best handyman on the island) and Adonis (just the best), are wonderful and can't do enough for you.

What was pleasing about our return was how the hotel had raised its game further. The food in the restaurant was even better (they now do the best ala carte food in Skala), the breakfasts had improved (fresh orange juice now available) and fresh towels are provided poolside each day, and I could go on. What this shows is unlike many hotels, they actually listen to an act on reviews made on sites like Trip Advisor.

We know from emails we have received from the hotel recently (yes they do contact you individually) that they have made further improvements for 2012, including adding hairdressing facilities, beauty room and massage treatments - so this is obviously not a hotel that stands still.

My wife and I now run our own business so it's not as easy to take holidays now, but if we do return to Kefalonia this summer, you can rest assured it will be the Regina Dell Acqua. Forget about where the hotel is ranked on Trip Advisor, it is the best and if anyone would like to message me for more details when deciding where to stay this year, then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are worth paying extra for.

Great early October break. We had 7 days of blue skies and temperatures in the mid 20s. The hotel was closing a few days after we left but this didn't affect the quality of the service or the facilities available.

Recommend the seaview rooms not just for the view but privacy as well.

Rooms were well appointed. Very clean but a few maintenance jobs outstanding e.g.torn mosquito screens. Huge comfortable bed, air con, good bathroom with jacuzzi bath but only a hand held shower attachment. Balcony with that wide seaview

Pool was spacious but very cold water even at the end of summer.Free use of luxurious sunbeds and a setting high up at the front of the hotel overlooking the sea.

We ate a lot in the pool bar at lunchtimes which served less expensive snack meals. Tended to walk a few hundred yards into Skala for meals in the evening.

We hired a car from the airport for the week but only because it was as cheap as taxis to and from the hotel. Didn't really need the car otherwise, althoigh because we had it we did make a couple of excursions around the island. Roads were very quiet but signposting is not so good, especially in Greek alphabet.

Overall this was a very relaxing break for some late sun.

Room Tip: Go for the seaview rooms with balcony

We stayed at the Regina for our Honeymoon back in September 2011, this was my second visit to a Greek Island, so I was a bit worried incse the hotel wasn't as it was on the web site. As soon as we saw it we were not dissapointed at all.... Right from being welcomed by the very friendly staff you were made to feel special.
The hotel has great views from where ever you are around the pool and it's such a great place to relax and unwind. The food at the hotel is also worth writting about as it was amazing, everything was freshly made and not over priced at all. At the time they still had the tables set round the pool in the evenings so it was lovely and Romantic. If you wanted to walk into town then there's plenty of lovely restuarants there too.
We hired a car for 2 days however we found that we only bothered using it once as the hotel was just too welcoming.
The only down side was breakfast, as there were lots and lots of wasps about in the breakfast room - which did spoil it and we eventually stopped eating breakfast there!

Would I recomend this hotel?? Deffinatly I wouldn't think twice about it, and we plan on going back very soon!!

This is our second visit to the Regina Dell Acqua Resort and we are truly impressed. We visited for the first time in May 2010 and loved it so much made a return trip this year at the beginning of October. Upon arrival we were greeted once again by Natasha who served us a welcome drink whilst we checked in. We were then escorted to our room which she explained she had upgraded to a sea view room, wow!!! The view from the balcony was really stunning. The hotel also has tea/coffee making facilities which is an added bonus. The restaurant was open for us and we got something to eat even though it was around 10pm. The restaurant food is very good comparable, and often better, than the restaurants in Scala. We were not rushed at all and served a very good wine, a good start to our holiday.

We had been warned the weather can be mixed at the start of October but we had at least 5 blissful days of sunshine, and the sea was warm enough to swim. Adjacent to this hotel is a very well stocked supermarket which is good value and excellent for water/drinks etc., the views from this hotel are just amazing and the pool area is beautiful and not at all crowded. Again as others have commented the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and really do go the extra mile to ensure you get the most out of your holiday experience.

The breakfast buffet was plentiful with a selection of hot and cold food and lovely pastries which was replenished right up until it finished at 10am. The views from the dining area are just truly magnificent and it is so relaxing with background music. We ate in the pool bar on 2/3 occasions and the food was excellent and all freshly prepared. On the last few days we did have some thunderstorms and rain but the overall holiday experience more than compensated for this. There are a very good selection of restaurants in Scala and the standards are high we also like the Pines Restaurant, friendly owner who remembered us from the previous year.

All in all beautiful views, friendly staff, excellent 5 star hotel – highly recommended and we will be back!!

Room Tip: All rooms very good but seaview room was something special.

We had a great time here. Its a relatively small hotel (38 bedrooms) but with superb facilities; big pool with ample loungers AND towels, well equipped gym, great rooms and excellent service. Great views from the pool as the hotel is built into the side of a hill and its on 3 main floors (lifts available). About 750 m from main Skala via a well lit beach front promenade. Only criticism pillows very hard!

Room Tip: Not all rooms have sea viw the higher ones do.

I'm surprised there seem to be no 2011 reviews about this hotel. My wife and I have just returned from a week's holiday staying at the Regina and are struggling to think of when we last had such a relaxing week away. Yes we were blessed with excellent weather but the service, the food, the hotel amenities, the setting - just about everything at this 38-roomed hotel on the edge of the small resort town of Scala was a 'thumbs up' and any criticisms would be of a minor, picky nature and detract from what, overall, was a great holiday. The domestic scale of the hotel inevitably means it will have some limitations e.g. choice of breakfast menu but this pales into insignificance against the plusses of being a guest in almost a boutique style hotel that most certainly goes the extra mile in looking after its guests.

Don't go there if a heady night-life is your heart's desire but for a chill-out, relaxing week away, it certainly ticked all our boxes. Worth hiring a car to explore the island, not much traffic and OK roads.

Transfers from and back to the island's small airport were a bit of a drag as we went as part of a package holiday where the full sized coach had to do quite a few drop-offs at other hotels etc but, next time (and I'm pretty sure there will be a next time!), now that we know the ropes, we'll hire a car for the entire week and collect it from the airport and miss out on the delights of the Thomson transfer!

Room Tip: Go for a sea view room

This is truly a lovely hotel in a fantastic location. The staff are absolutely brilliant as previous reviewers had stated. My wife broke her toe while there and received first class help from all the staff including a continual supply of ice packs for the first day! Any requests for help were dealt with effectively and efficiently
The hotel itself is very peaceful and quiet. There is always plenty of room at the pool. The rooms are well laid out with tea and coffee facilities, a fridge and a safe.
A car is a must to enjoy the breathtaking scenery this island provides. Don` miss Assos as it is absolutely stunning.
On the whole a very enjoyable relaxing holiday in a superb location (even with the excitement of the broken toe!)
Finally please ignore the negative reviews associated with this hotel. They are simply untrue.
